I just picked up the entire series on a whim, so I was happy to see your video pop up. I am hoping to get around to it soon, so it's nice to know that you enjoyed it even having no nostalic ties to it. I always worry about that, coming to beloved books as an adult.
I agree with your opinion about generic fantasy not being bad by default. I like elves, I like dwarves, I like wizards and warriors and dragons and stuff... However, I do think the beginning of the story at least is too similar to LotR narratively. At the same time, I think that similarity may actually have served to draw in a lot of readers who are fans of the fantasy genre, even though I didn't personally like it.
They are definitely similar! (Perhaps more than similar🤣) But I think I found it more of a comfort than a critique for me. There’s just something in LotR that feels so comfy, ya know? So I wasn’t all too mad to find it in Eragon. But critically speaking? That first half of the book is LotR with dragons haha!
just discovered this, as im doing another trip through the Cycle. 5 minutes in and i like what you have to say and think you may enjoy the rest of the series more. I suppose ill find out soon, see ya in the next 2 o7
Full disclosure, I read these as they were coming out, but I loved hearing your thoughts! I'm wondering if as the series progresses, you'll change your thoughts about some things. Saphira is probably my favorite dragon character!!
Thank you so much! I wish that I had read them a bit younger so I could have that nostalgia😅 I'm very eager to know how I'm going to feel about the rest of the series as well! Also, Saphira is the best!😍

I feel the same way! I have had the first book sitting on my shelf for about 5 years because I was so nervous to read it haha!

I'm actually on book 4 now & really enjoying the direction that Inheritance is going!
I've read the first book, its Star Wars in a Lord of the Rings setting pretty much. Eragon is fantasy Luke Skywalker.
Oh wow that is so true!! But also, Star Wars and LOTR are kind of mirrors of each other as well in my opinion. (& I love them both)
I’ll be honest though I like reading these young Adult Fantasy it’s nice to get a story that seems pure and simple
@@Lljm90 Same here! I’m actually looking for something “lighter” at the moment actually!
@@NotSoAverageJo I like your Channel by the way I subscribe
@@NotSoAverageJo I heard Empire of the vampire is a good read
@@Lljm90 I have heard that as well! It’s on my list of books to read but I might wait until the whole series is out🙃
