my uncle...we be proud and he is missed in this life, but we know he is making music in heaven...see you there later my love...until then, make that beautiful music in eternity...kisses and hugs...
Yes, This is Joe Diamo close Friend and Musical associate of Joe Bonner for around the last 25 years of Joe's life. Lots to be said... I hosted this event which turned out to be another Tribute concert with our( Joe's) band " Current Events". A tribute concert, in Boulder happened at the "Cafe Sole" just prior to this! This also was a gig that was supposed to be with Joe that we turned into a tribute concert! We invited all the players that played with Joe and the place was so packed there was standing room only and friends had to be outside. A heart warming event. I'm starting the band up again and will be on the scene soon! Watch for us! "Current Events". Joe will be with us from the other side of the threshold!
I played and recorded with Joe. Beautiful out person. Really professional. It was a wonderful experience for me. The recording is in Joe´s name on Steeplechase Records "The Lost Melody"
we have many copies of his last record "Current Events" at Cherry Sound Studios still... come by and pick up a copy! its on iTunes as well but we have printed CDs in the studio if you are in Denver.
OMG... and he was only 66. It's sad people don't want to talk about the ... addictions that killed some of our best. If we were more honest... fewer would die. From the grinding of his jaw and the blood vessels in his face... I could see both alcoholism and some type of stimulant addiction. (Crack? Meth?) Genius seems to be a heavy burden for so many. And the South leaves its burdens and traumas to load on top of that weight. "Impressions of Copenhagen" remains one of my favorite albums. SUCH a talent.. and only 66. RIP
One day I was transcribing a Charlie Parker solo. I came out into the living room, where Joe Bonner was sitting on the couch listening to me. I had no idea who we was. He said "BIRD!" Later I realized he routinely slept on Bob Palmer's couch.
Absolutely wonderful. Looking forward to the full length documentary! Here is my radio show tribute to Joe Bonner www.mixcloud.com/see27beats/sees-to-exist-show-joe-bonner-a-celebration-show-65-121214/

Thank God Joe was a GIANT, who had enormous talent and plenty of it (as evidenced by his playing/recordings) right up to the end. I miss Joe & fondly remember my years of knowing him.

his life wasn't a " pity" it had a glorious, loving, miraculous side as well and yes unfortunately the booze did take its toll and probably shortened his life... thanks Joe for the great gift you've given us and thanks for coming to me a week before you passed in a dream to say " thank you" dressed all in white and moving on. I know your still with us and yes we are continuing your legacy with our ( yours and our band " Current events"!
@@fredfarmer5952 I met and listened to Joe back in the 80's. I never associated his physical quirks as related to Meth or crack. I think he was just "a little off" in a Monk kinda way!
