It’s sadly not likely. He’s a highly skilled Japanese dude yet neither incredibly popular nor a pro. Those seem to be what gets most guys in. I’m glad more women (and non-native speakers) get be in than in other high-play spaces, but it can suck that they’re preferred to a guy you hope gets in due to the -2 point factor. Astel’s tournament play is my favorite, tho, so we can only silently hope and openly support whenever he DOES get the chance to participate.
