    Very interesting! The design is great in my opinion. It’s nice to see a vintage product redesigned and back into the spotlight.

    Today most have a 3 Ni-Mh cells due to LED efficiency and are a great improvement over the 6V lead acid. This new 1 is undoubtedly under driving the LEDs at 2.4-2.8v which is fine.

    I never knew the EZ-2 has been around for almost 3 decades. As stylish and retro the EZ-2L looks compared to the EZ-2, I give it a 9.5/10. Of course the half point taken away due to the battery problem where the door has a latch and not a screw in feature like the EVHC. However, I think the snap on tab feature would be more significant. Overall, this emergency light is very well built and I like how it kinda kept its standard look compared to the EZ-2. I would definitely like to see a comparison between the EZ-2L and the EV series.

    I know this is late but I would like to see an update where they add a tamper screw to the battery door, or just leave the push tab. Reason is because it will leave it shut and it cannot be tampered

    does the new model get dimmer when fully charged like the original? how well does it spread out the light?

    • @ExitSign250
      @ExitSign250  2 года назад +1

      The AC indicator remains fully illuminated when AC power is applied. There is no dim/bright indication on this model. I would say the EZ2L spreads the light very well. Similar to the EV model, but a little brighter.

    Is that spot where you flush mounted those units going to be a new location for the exit and emergency series. I think both are great units but I prefer the new one bc it is brighter and smaller.

    • @ExitSign250
      @ExitSign250  3 года назад +2

      This was a one-off location for this video. And actually, it’s not even at my house. I have a friend who had an outlet installed high on the wall and he wanted me to remove it since it no longer was used. But before I completely removed the electrical connections I installed the EZ-2L for this video to simulate a real installation. And yep, I really like these emergency lights!

    I'm surprised they went with a NiMH battery considering that Li-Ion is almost the standard now an performs a lot better than a NiMH.

      Good thing to point out. Not sure why they did that either.

  • @johnathanruiz-pineda9610
    @johnathanruiz-pineda9610 3 года назад +1

    Interesting! It looks very nice and modern, but I do have a question:
    Why don’t manufactures create emergency lighting with brighter lights? Most handheld flashlights can produce light up to 1200 Lumens with a 3.7V Li-ion Battery, it would most definitely be possible with an emergency light, wouldn’t it?

    • @ExitSign250
      @ExitSign250  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! As for your question, to be honest I’m really not sure. Dual-Lite offers the brightest emergency light on the market today. Their EVHC model is offered in two different lumen outputs; 346 per lamp head and 546 per lamp head. 546 per lamp is really bright for an emergency light, but not as bright as most of these modern flashlights. There must be a reason for this. Perhaps 1200 lumen LEDs draw too much current for a standard emergency light battery to operate for a full 90 minutes, or some other reason. I’m not aware of any code stating emergency lights cannot be any brighter than X lumens. Still a really good question!

    • @johnathanruiz-pineda9610
      @johnathanruiz-pineda9610 3 года назад +1

      @@ExitSign250 yea probably, but I don’t think there would be a restriction on the battery either to compensate for a “power hungry” light. Then again, most LED lights (which is what I have) last a while, and I’ve even used mine on for hours and worked nicely. I suspect it might be a medical or practical reason, like trying to stare directly at the light might blind you in a dark environment. That might be it.

    • @ExitSign250
      @ExitSign250  3 года назад +1

      That’s a good theory. Especially for combo units that you need to look at to locate the exit. You wouldn’t want to blind someone who is trying to find the way out.

    Cool, yeah the EZ-2s were around forever, have seen them in old buildings from the 90s all the way to buildings built around 2010.
    These do look pretty fugly though… don’t see an architect specing those over the EV2. What’s the unit price? Maybe it’ll be Hubbell’s cheap “contractor grade” light to compete with the cheap imported lights seen everywhere.

    • @ExitSign250
      @ExitSign250  3 года назад +1

      I personally really like them. These are a bit more than a standard EV2. Believe it or not, the original EZ-2 has still been spec’d out quite a lot up until now. If the original bulky model can still be spec’d a lot, I can easily see the EZ-2L being spec’d. The EZ-2L isn’t meant to compete with generic emergency lighting as there is a huge price difference between a typical generic unit and the EZ-2L
