U.S. Soccer faces more issues than just the mediocrity of Gregg Berhalter. As a fan for over 30 years, I believe that the USMNT is being influenced by Don Garber and the MLS. Additionally, the consecutive poor decisions by Matt Betty Crocker have only made things worse. The frustrating part is the lack of media and pundit criticism of Gregg for his poor tactics, playing players out of position, and inability to change the game with tactics or substitutions. It's disappointing that pundits have not called out Gregg until now. The media is part of the problem in U.S. Soccer, and it's disheartening. My faith in U.S. Soccer, MLS, Don Garber, and the media has been shaken.
It was all bad! He barely qualified by taking 3rd in World Cup Qualifying. Gregg Berthalter was beaten by Panama 3 times! He is the first manager in 15 years to have been scored on by 5 goals or more and it was 15 years before that in 1991 it was last done. The hard truth is that everyone is covering for him because he is a former MLS coach and they're protecting him because it looks bad on the MLS. This is what is ruining soccer in America! Don Garber, U.S. Soccer, Matt Crocker, and Cindy Parlow Cone. These people are destroying American Soccer for what gains, I do not know, but it isn't for USMNT!
Something tells me Berhalter isn’t the only one that needs to go. The whole front office probably needs to be upgraded and get people who understand top flight football. The national team is more or less stagnant for the past 20 years. Beat who they’re supposed to beat and lose by a few goals or at best draw against better competition. If they got Klopp or someone of his caliber I doubt USSF wouldn’t have the stomach or the know how to do what’s necessary to realize the potential a top flight coach would bring.
Man, Mainstream Media is really pushing this narrative now that they want to highlight that Gregg had a "Successful" first term and that's what we should remember about him. So, have we progressed since 2002? Since that fighting team of 2014? We got out of an easy group in 2022 and then got embarassed by the Dutch! All while bring along our favorite MLS so-called, "super stars!"
You’re not getting Klopp. You guys are setting yourselves up for a huge disappointment and thats not fair on whoever comes in. You’ve got two years to prepare for the world cup and feel you need someone who’s been there and done it. Someone like Bielsa would be a huge coup if you could get him. You’re also ignoring the fact whatever you pay the mens coach you have to pay the womens and I don’t see that happening. Thats maybe $25m+ x 2 for two years. Berhalter was on around $1.3m pa.
You have to play as many quality teams as possible as you simply can’t prepare for the world cup playing mostly mediocre CONCACAF teams. If you could get someone like Bielsa it would be huge. He’s got bags of experience at this level and used to coaching and maximising average players and teams. This is no golden generation when you compare it to the elite nations who are packed with quality in every position.
The US needs someone like Bielsa who’s managed at international level and tournament football. Two years isn’t very long to get this team which is made up of mostly average players being competitive and hard to break down.
Wow, I really wish my wife would look and talk about me in the way Grella looks and talks about GB. What a PR campaign this guy has been running for GB. I hope he's getting paid at least, lol.
You’ve got two years to prepare. You need someone who’s been there, done it at international/tournament level. If you could get someone like Bielsa that would be a huge coup. He’s great at getting the most out of average teams/players. This is no golden generation when compared with most of the top teams that are packed with quality in all positions, not just one or two.
go for an experioenced manager, but Klopp is pipe dream. More likely is soeone like Martinez, Poch, etc. That's as high profile a coach as the US will be able to pull. Sorry klopp dreamers, but he wants to win. He could chose England or germany or anybody.
If we only had a league. If we only had Americans play in Europe. If we only had a European coach. If we only had European born players. If we only had a golden generation.
You could have a league with promotion/relegation to make it a lot more competitive with teams having to fight for the right to play at the top tier. Makes a huge difference.
@Mike Grella He's definitely not the best manager in the US. And not great in general. Mediocre at best. Great at interviews and ideas. Implementation is something else. It was proven mediocre with the USMNT already here.
His style was never suited for international/tournament football where a more pragmatic style is required, esp when you don’t have many quality players to choose from. First thing to do is make you a lot tougher to break down and play counter attacking football. It would better suit the type of players you have.
I bet McBride is pissed
It's about time.
Big Tony for President 2024!

Lol, Mike Grella, just get the tattoo on your forehead already! "I'm the PR guy for USSF!" 8:56

Time to go All In to get Klopp.

No reason not to still be playing the biggest friendlies possible

Gotta say , having uncle tony in the media is pretty dope.
To not be a villain? Well then he should have resigned two years ago or talked about Gio outside the locker room
Please- for the love of football in this country, have some ambition get the best available!

even Poch is a pretty long shot.
You need someone like Bielsa.
Mike grell must be silenced! One of the best managers around the world? Seriously?
If we only had a league. If we only had Americans play in Europe. If we only had a European coach. If we only had European born players. If we only had a golden generation.

Nepo Gregg is a villain. He has ruined this generation of players.
This Grella guy needs to get fired. What a useless shill.
