This is very important information, not only for Boston qualifiers, but maybe even more for older runners who want to keep running as long as they can, without getting injured. Using the whole body to push off, through core action. It will not make me fly like our Belgian marathon champion Bashir Abdi (2.04.49!) but it will surely make me run with a 'younger' form and feeling.
Honestly, I don't think about pushing off, I just run. I like to feel my running, I know what works by feel. As you say Jae, easier always FEELS better! Pushing off is more noticeable with very fast running. I know short sprints or striders interspersed in my regular run, before a structured workout run, after a long run, and before races works for me.
I have always thought pushing off doesn't make mush sense. The glute max muscles are only powerful when the hip joints are flexed. In a sense, running is very similar to climbing up a staircase.
thks, it is that means ,I don't need to thinks about paw back or pull, just landing angle and extension to make forward, right?secod thing is how to do about ankle angle or knee forward after landing?
I don't recommend focusing on any of those things, David. When you get your whole body working well, your feet and legs take care of themselves. Trying to control them is quite difficult and there's too much that can go wrong.
@@balancedrunner thanks Jae. during last month, I tried many ways to push ankle or knees forward , the result is painful , and speed was slower. it is wrong way to do .
Great advice and well explained. Incorporating this technique into my running made an immediate noticeable difference both in feel and speed.
Excellent!

So for people with lazy/dormant glutes, what should we do?
Great question! I talk about that in this video: ruclips.net/video/NBEFRYcR5lk/видео.html
