I’ve posted 8 articles so far but am not sure if I’m curated. How do I look for this? I have published in The Innovation. Does this mean I’m not in curation jail? Thanks in advance.
You'll have to check the stats! On the individual story stats, you'll either see "This story was distributed" or something like that, or you won't. If it's been a few days and you don't see that message, you probably weren't curated. As far as I can tell, curation jail no longer exists.
Hi Amanda - you're right alas, you can't get away from it anywhere.I think Medium is different in that clickbait doesn't rise to the top like it does elsewhere. Most of the stories I see succeeding deliver on their headline's promises :)
tl;dr - yep, you're right. Longer version: To be honest, I don't know what the case is now. At one point in the past, if you wrote 2-3 stories that didn't meet the criteria, your articles would no longer be considered for curation. Your stories would simply be out of the queue. So even if you wrote a perfect story a month later, it wouldn't matter because you'd already been removed from the list. You'd only get a message as soon as your story was published that curators couldn't review your story due to high volume. There were stories of folks who'd hear back months later that one of their stories had been curated and that "curation jail" was lifted, and from that point on they would not get the "high volume, couldn't review this story" this message, but rather either a "yes this meets our criteria" or "no this doesn't meet our criteria." HOWEVER Medium changes all the time, so it's possible people aren't seeing this, they hired more curators, they review everyone's stories on a monthly rotating basis, who knows.
If I did something really fun, like going hang gliding for the first time two summers ago, and wrote about it, would Medium's curators frown upon it because it was something I did two years ago?
Medium curation guidelines are here: help.medium.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006362473-Medium-s-Distribution-Standards-What-Writers-and-Publications-Need-to-Know They will absolutely not care if it was something from two years ago! That rule is more if you _wrote_ about that experience two years ago, and then imported that blog post to Medium, then that would be automatically disqualified.
Honestly, I don't know - I don't publish any poetry myself so I'm not familiar with the audience! I'd recommend checking out actual poets on Medium like Lark Morrigan and seeing what they have to say on the matter :)
Thanks for this! I have a handful of articles that I published long before they started this model, but I haven't published in years. Should I delete those articles before I start writing again? Will it ding me? Or could it be better to leave them up because I have a long history with Medium? Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! I recommend leaving them up for now, but if you find you're having trouble getting curated, consider unlisting them to see fi that cleans your slate
An advice from a fellow viewer, the bgm is loud enough to make the viewers put effort in listening to what you're saying. Try to keep the volume of the background lower so it becomes a good ambience rather than a noise interfering with the main audio.
all i want to do is publish my thoughts and post links on other sites driving people to my page. im not interested in the income aspect but want a free option, will medium suffice?
Hi, I watched one of your videos where you mentioned something about how to list stories so they come up in more search results. Could you point to the video or any information you can share on that? Thanks again!
Hi Carl! I am afraid I don't know which one you mean, I make an awful lot of videos. It's possible I was talking about Medium's high domain authority, which means any stories on Medium come up higher on Google than they would on e.g. wordpress.
That should be fine as long as you disclose them in the article. And if I remember correctly, your CTAs/ads/affiliates shouldn't make up more than 20% of your article. You can check out the full guidelines here: help.medium.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006362473-Medium-s-Distribution-Standards-What-Writers-and-Publications-Need-to-Know

Hi Zulie! I'm new in Medium and I have just found your channel. I've already post 3 stories and I assumed I didn't get curated since I haven't received any email telling me otherwise. I didn't find the question mark where it says curated or not though and I'm worried now. Could you please help me it? and also, if it isn't too much to ask, could I send you and email so you could take a look at my work?. Thank you for sharing your experience with it.
Hi Paola! I'd definitely check your story stats. Go to Stats > and then click Details on any story. Right under the title, you should see the status of the curation review no matter if it's a yes or a no. Right now I am at capacity for editing and I can't fairly help everyone who asks, but if you have a specific question, let me know and I'll do my best to help.

@@ZulieWrites Hi Zulie!. I already went to check the status of my stories and all of them said "Not distributed in topics". Thank you for answering me.
Do I have to join the medium partner programme? Is it a must to grow a strong following if I don't necessarily plan to monetise my articles per say? I am based in Taipei, and I do write in both tarditional Chinese and English, I literally just started. Would appreciate some advice, thanks a lot!
You only need to join the MPP if you want to get the money - if not, you can just write and not put stories behind the paywall! It won't affect your growth, you should still get followers.
I wrote an article about the relation of China with COVID-19 on medium, and I think because of the controversial content they banned my medium account. After that I wrote multiple emails to medium but they seem unresponsive. Is there a way to get my account unblocked?
Hi Akshat, I'm so sorry to hear you were banned! I do know there have been some folks banned for spreading what medium considers to be misinformation as it's such a tricky subject. The best you can do is email yourfriends@medium.com, which it sounds like you've done, and then wait. If they don't get back to you within a week, try again. If still no word, it may be worth thinking about setting up another account.
I think you can go to the published story and change the tags on iPhone, but I don't think it's possible on Android. But maybe they changed it altogether. Some functions are restricted to the desktop version.
Hi Zulie hope you are doing well, I got inspiration from your videos and started my uploading on medium but after scheduling my 10 stories I realized that its partner program is currently not available for Pakistani users ☹ I need your guidelines about this matter should I quit this or can continue with an alternate solution? Waiting for your reply
Hi, so sorry to hear that. I know that sucks, and I really hope Medium/Stripe will include more countries in the future. In the meantime, you can check out this video, in which I explain how to make money without the partner program: ruclips.net/video/EN9VYEnly_I/видео.html
5:10: I'm not sure I agree with that. I hate the use of click bait titles, but if I go on Medium right now, there are about four articles currently on the landing page about how the author made a "five-digit income all from home during lockdown". My feed is awash of these low quality, opinionated pieces with no backed evidence. I think Medium do a little to stop it, but it's certainly not a rule of theirs.
Good point! Two things *may* be happening: 1. Medium's homepage shows you what it thinks you're going to like based on what you've read before. This method is flawed if you ask me, but you can clear your history if you like by going to your profile button and clicking "control my recommendations." I do this regularly as I have a bad habit of clicking on clickbait even when I know it'll be rubbish :) 2. Before, curation quality control was really high, but it appears they've widened the gates. This used to stop a lot of the clickbait getting pushed around because it simply wasn't curated, but now it appears it is more prevalent. All that being said, I think it's really worth reaching out to yourfriends@medium.com to let them know your reader experience has been crappy lately, with screenshots if possible. Their first priority is always to keep readers, so they're more likely to take your feedback on board.
@@ZulieWrites I am building a blog with Wix and I was thinking that I could publish to Medium and publishing to my blog. So I was asking am I only allowed to publish on multiple blogs or do I pick a blog spot and stick there

Yep! I answered in the other video but I will post it here in case anyone else has the same question: Poems are totally allowed! Check out medium.com/topic/poetry to see some great examples.
This is a tough one to answer. My best bet is that they want to prioritize new content that is written to Medium's standards, but they don't want to exclude tons of potentially great content right off the bat. I also know that the ability to import articles existed long before curation (and curation jail) did, so it's also possible it's two conflicting viewpoints within the company, and one or the other will change at some point. All I can say for sure is that I agree it's not consistent and frustrating as a writer, especially since they don't document that well anywhere.
Hey! I published my first article to a publication. Does that mean I am not eligible for curation? I haven't gotten any communication (good or bad) from Medium about my article (it's about a week old). I'm so confused haha
It can take up to 2 weeks for newer authors! Publications and curation are separate, so you can submit to a pub and still be totally eligible for curation.
@@ZulieWrites Thank you so much! I had asked this on another video, but is there a benefit to using stock photos as the featured image v. a personal photo? Thanks again!
Yep, you usually get an email. If you want to check, go to Stats> Click on a Story > and then just below the title it will say whether it's been curated or not, or whether it's still in the queue.

I'd leave out "thanks for reading" - any kind of signature is, as of right now, kind of frowned upon by Medium as they believe it should be 100% about the story. I'm not sure about earning as an under-18. I believe yes, but I'd confirm with yourfriends@medium.com to be sure!

You'd only get a message as soon as your story was published that curators couldn't review your story due to high volume.
There were stories of folks who'd hear back months later that one of their stories had been curated and that "curation jail" was lifted, and from that point on they would not get the "high volume, couldn't review this story" this message, but rather either a "yes this meets our criteria" or "no this doesn't meet our criteria."
HOWEVER Medium changes all the time, so it's possible people aren't seeing this, they hired more curators, they review everyone's stories on a monthly rotating basis, who knows.
@@ZulieWrites thx Zulie. I started writing June 2019 ... I may have had a story (stories) curated early on.
If I did something really fun, like going hang gliding for the first time two summers ago, and wrote about it, would Medium's curators frown upon it because it was something I did two years ago?
Medium curation guidelines are here: help.medium.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006362473-Medium-s-Distribution-Standards-What-Writers-and-Publications-Need-to-Know
They will absolutely not care if it was something from two years ago! That rule is more if you _wrote_ about that experience two years ago, and then imported that blog post to Medium, then that would be automatically disqualified.
Actually wanted to know if there are grt numbers of audience for poetry
@@ZulieWrites Thank you!
An advice from a fellow viewer, the bgm is loud enough to make the viewers put effort in listening to what you're saying. Try to keep the volume of the background lower so it becomes a good ambience rather than a noise interfering with the main audio.
How do you know if your article is curated?
Is "curation jail" still a thing?
Do you have to credit images if you get them from a royalty free site like Pixabay or Pexels?
You don't have to, but I think it's a nice practice!
Oh jeez, I have only one story left to try...
I've heard different reports! It's possible "curation jail" is extending number of tries, and even once you're in, it's possible to get out!
all i want to do is publish my thoughts and post links on other sites driving people to my page. im not interested in the income aspect but want a free option, will medium suffice?
Yes, Medium is also perfect for that!
Hi, I watched one of your videos where you mentioned something about how to list stories so they come up in more search results. Could you point to the video or any information you can share on that? Thanks again!
Hi Carl! I am afraid I don't know which one you mean, I make an awful lot of videos. It's possible I was talking about Medium's high domain authority, which means any stories on Medium come up higher on Google than they would on e.g. wordpress.
@@ZulieWrites I figured it out, but thanks!
Nice❣️
Does having Amazon or other affiliate links in your stories reduce your chances of getting curated, or are these perfectly OK in the right context?
That should be fine as long as you disclose them in the article. And if I remember correctly, your CTAs/ads/affiliates shouldn't make up more than 20% of your article. You can check out the full guidelines here: help.medium.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006362473-Medium-s-Distribution-Standards-What-Writers-and-Publications-Need-to-Know
@@ZulieWrites Thanks, Zulie. I'll take a look at that.
Thanks for the vid
Glad it was helpful!
I have several blogs on my website. If I copy/paste them into medium and delete them on the website is this ok?
Absolutely. You can also import them to Medium by going to "Your Stories" and then on "Import a story."
how to add bank account of india in my profile?
Can you only write in English on Medium or is there a multilingual option? E.g. German, Russian etc.?
You can write in any language on Medium. Non-english stories won't be curated, but if you're still getting reads then you can still earn money.
Mam I wanted to ask that if I am a beginner and have not joined any partner program and have zero followers will people also read my stories or will medium promote my stories
i publish my story in publications But I don't get accepted.
Hi zulie i am new on medium and published one article..but do not see any responses on that. sharing my article with you...its a 2 min read..i wud b grateful if u can guide me through🙏
ATTIRE IS TO SOUL AS DECOR IS TO HOME🏠
Existent bliss is, not to wait for an occasion to dress up,not to wait to put on those fairy lights, not to bake that enticing cake on guest ingress.
The vibrations and aura of my house are my pre-eminent buds.
So,amidst pandemic the front room plays the candle light Maldives resort every alternate day.The very idea of perceiving it to be a date is to dress-up and not waiting for the occasion but creating one.
From my personal standpoint we adorn our thoughts and soul through apparels. The credence one gets with that tinge of your treasured hue is far off comparison.
The inebriciating light from the corner lamp, the comfort of hiding my love handles with a scatter cushion, the glance of burro's tail on bay window, the inkling thoughts, resonating sound of drinks sometimes gushing down the glasses, the intact feeling of warm fellowship befits the sense of endearment.
Conversely, seeing that it is not always attainable to tryst, social media is always game.
Embellishing a six yard straight out of my jamdani cabinet is my idea of exhilaration. The other day when Mr Sun is not in a very righteous mood,i love to embrace my cotton array.
Slaying those cotton lounging robes on a lazy sunday afternoon, not to ignore the cozy comfort of linens is my exceptional happiness.
The proclivity with regard to handcrafts is everlasting. It starts early.....Ummm!! Ya..as early as my toddler picking up with his block printing interests through tools from his learning activity subscription box.
So,in my abode love for handcrafts and handlooms is a family affair😊
By far, you fairly know my design of musing.Hope this piece of words helps you somewhere/sometime in life.
The mantra is,
STAY LUCID ON THOUGHTS AND HIGH ON SHOTS!!

@@ZulieWrites Hi Zulie!. I already went to check the status of my stories and all of them said "Not distributed in topics". It is the only thing that appears and I was wondering if that is something bad. Also, if they are not going to curate your stories anymore, do they let you know via email or something similar?. Thank you for answering me.
do you think that one should use a niche or write about anything
I 'm your fans
How can I change tags of Medium article from mobile?

Good point! Two things *may* be happening:
1. Medium's homepage shows you what it thinks you're going to like based on what you've read before. This method is flawed if you ask me, but you can clear your history if you like by going to your profile button and clicking "control my recommendations." I do this regularly as I have a bad habit of clicking on clickbait even when I know it'll be rubbish :)
Their first priority is always to keep readers, so they're more likely to take your feedback on board.
hey who are the medium you list at 1:30 ?
So basically I am not allowed to use the blogs on my own page for stories on their page.
Hey Andre! Sorry I don't understand your question - what do you mean?
@@ZulieWrites I am building a blog with Wix and I was thinking that I could publish to Medium and publishing to my blog. So I was asking am I only allowed to publish on multiple blogs or do I pick a blog spot and stick there

Hey how we have to pay for stripe payouts , do I need starting investment for that?
You shouldn't need to pay for stripe payouts - they pay you! I'm not sure I understand your question here I'm afraid.
@@ZulieWrites do I need paid partner program to earn money on medium?
How do you credit a gif from gifphy on medium?
Can you write POETRY on meduim?
Yep! I answered in the other video but I will post it here in case anyone else has the same question:
Poems are totally allowed! Check out medium.com/topic/poetry to see some great examples.
When I write at medium under my business account counts as an ad?
I don't think so :)
I take all of my own pictures for my stories. Will I still be thrown in curation jail for uncredited images if I don't credit my images?
Maybe just credit yourself
Why does Medium encourage writers to import articles published elsewhere if the editors turn around and punish them for doing so?
😍😍😍
So do they let u know when you’re curated??
Yep, you usually get an email. If you want to check, go to Stats> Click on a Story > and then just below the title it will say whether it's been curated or not, or whether it's still in the queue.
Okay this is completely off topic, but seriously I can't even get to the point of becoming a partner on medium. How did you guys handle all the bullshit from stripe? I didn't know that I have to do some coding to get my Onboard connect standard account running. What did you guys do? No one talks about this struggle. And stripe's instructions on how to do them is better than horrible. Can anyone help?

you name on medium?
Is it bad to say thanks for reading, and are minors allowed to make money on medium?
I'd leave out "thanks for reading" - any kind of signature is, as of right now, kind of frowned upon by Medium as they believe it should be 100% about the story. I'm not sure about earning as an under-18. I believe yes, but I'd confirm with yourfriends@medium.com to be sure!
@@ZulieWrites thank you!
I wrote 5 stories and clicked Publish. Which I heard you're not supposed to do. But since I did click publish stead of submitting my stories, am I not in Curation jail??? ha
