Used to have steamdeck but sold it, got the Ally and what i like most is when playing turbo 30w mode, i can even play triple A games smoothly, that is with 900p
The Ally is genuinely such a good machine. I bought one because they were available in my local Best Buy. Unfortunately, there is a downside. The machine fried my MicroSD which is now unusable and now I am experiencing joystick drift. I have ordered the joystick parts to replace myself and then I am back to gaming! I am tempted to try again with the MicroSD but there is no guarantee that it won't be fried. They strangely placed the MicroSD slot on a part of the device that gets VERY HOT! Aside from the obvious technical issues it is an absolute dream of a machine.
@@ColeCaccamise The good news is that I was able to replace the joystick by myself instead of sending it in and waiting a long time for a repair. The joystick replacements only cost $15 for 2 spare joysticks. You can buy them for even cheaper($3) if you are okay with waiting for them to ship from China. I am stoked to have it working again. Still worth the money!

I actually like armory crate. But Asus needs to sort out the gyro. It's in there and with third part apps you can use it for gyro aim which for me is the only way I would play a shooter with a controller. But other than that. I mostly love it since i am not big on shooters to begin with.

And sorry but if you want to play AAA games you have to use the power adaptor or your battery drains crazy... Why buy a handheld if you have to plug it in the whole time??
I absolutely disagree with the title of the video. But i guess its a question of perspective... I think that the Steam Deck ( especially if it comes to price/performance ratio ) is better by far. Before anybody tries to kill me here dont forget that outside of the United States there are other countries in the world and the Ally is way more expensive.
Rog ally is way cheaper compared to steam deck in my country. Because steam deck is not available in my country, we had to ship it, all those shipping extra cost add up a tons. I spent nearly 950 USD total for steam deck. While rog ally we could walk in retail shop to buy.
SD Card is not an issue anymore and yes, amazing console. Armory crate does have the desktop mode configuring. It took me a while to set the windows macros and what not the way i like it (alt-f4 with both backtriggers, etc) but once you get it going it makes using windows with a gamepad a breeze.

@ColeCaccamise it's just amazing to me. It must have felt like when I first played GTA LCS/VCS on PSP for the first time. It was around 2009, and to have a "mobile GTA" was amazing. I think it came out a couple or few years prior, but I didn't have the money. Then, I convinced two of my friends to purchase the same. we played on our way to Afghanistan. Looking back, I wish I had played more and slept less on the way, but you never know what times are going to be memories you look fondly on. Anywho, I'm happy a similar feeling is still being had in this day and age.
I’ve had a bunch of handhelds and honestly the ally has the best joysticks out of the competition. Ranking of joysticks 1. Ally 2. Steam deck 3.Aya neo 2s 4. Rest of the market uses the terrible switch joysticks
I had wanted to get this originally but went with the Aya Neo 2. Much more pleasant design. Much more seamless. However I agree that these have great speakers! Probably the best speakers for handhelds. Otherwise, I hate how it looks and proportions. They could have done WAY better. Maybe in the future if they improve this then I'll go back to Asus.
@@user-nx1qe3fg2h Totally agree! Horrible indeed. Ayaspace 2 is much better but still...leagues away from Asus and Steam Deck. Hope they hire someone great with software to address this issue!
Best gaming handheld has 2 trackpads for perfect mouse movement in OS and 50 percent of PC games. Without that you cant play half of best PC games. Nobody cares about your GTA 5 childhood dreams. It is that simple.

Been using Ally for 2 months. Love it but imo not worth it. Some thoughts Resolution: 1080p are useless here. Most games you want to use 720, due to performance and battery life. Very old games can hold well at 1080 but yet battery life gets a huge hit. Buttons: L and R buttons are horrible, dPad is borderline useless. Software: sucks. Crashes, bug, inconsistency, bad windows integration, asus support sucks, a bit bloatware. No. You need spend time fixing stuff manually, ages away from Deck’s experience here. Design: useless strobing lights, sucks battery and even impact cpu, simply turn it off. The vent are loud at 25/30tdp (necessary for games like BG3) and reach my fingertips and this thing gets really hot, between 60 to 90c. Cool stuff but poorly executed, as per usual ASUS.
How long have you had it? Had no crashes anything from Asus so far..had 1 windows crash thats it,D-pad deff feels cheap but i don't play fighting games so for toggling equipment in games it does the job,i agree with the RGB turn it off...also turn off rumble and maybe squeak some more batt life out of it altho not much

Thanks man! Yeah the battery life really does suck because I’m always thinking “shit it’s dead already?” Quick resume would be really nice, is this a feature that is possible on windows?
@@elysian3623 The steam deck isn't locked into any ecosystem. for one, steam is basically THE PC gaming ecosystem anyway. You can play any game from any other game store, it just takes a little bit of effort. Steam deck is definitely more like a console with the features that it has. Ally is great but windows just isn't great on this kind of handheld yet. I have heard rumors of a windows OS specifically designed for the handhelds coming out so hopefully features like quick resume can be implemented then.
Yes it is!
i appreciate this review and i'm sure fore some the ally is worth it but for me and my needs the stream deck is perfect and i love the constant support with updates from the dev team
Fair enough!
Can i use my ipad pro as a screen for rog ally? (sorry my english is bad)
Is it worth in 2023? Are these are already obsolete
its only a few months old
Love my ROG ally. Everything runs on it. I highly recommend it.
Do you know how to get rid of the numbers and letters in the corner of the screen
@@Hdogxx247 What numbers and letters?
@@PaulWeiss4LIFE you know the little display in the corner that when you play games it’s like showing random stuff pop now it’s like a little square or something
@@PaulWeiss4LIFE I haven’t played on my ROG Ally yet but noticing some videos on RUclips, that shows up a little display in the corner, showing random numbers and letters just turning on and off
@@PaulWeiss4LIFE when you first started playing on it, did you not see it on yours
I'm usually indifferent about RGB too, but I kind of like them on my Ally.
How do you use PS Remote Play? Is it working on ROG Ally? I thought that its gamepad is not supported by the official client.
UPD: ah.. I see.. REWASD.
Yep. And of course you could connect a dual sense
Nice device, but I'll wait a while until the "bugs" & "glitches" have been resolved.
If i get a part time job And for breaks and stuff i would love this for multiversus lol when that game relaunch :)
So the power bank by Anker only provides 2 additional charges?
Roughly yes, i didn’t do any super scientific testing but that’s what I found
with an anker 26800 mah i can charge my sd twice so with 24000 a lil less than twice i presume
Nice vid mate
Thank you brother
The rog ally is amazing. I love it I have the steamdeck also and I love that but the rog is better. I have the gps win 4 also and that is crazy nice. But the rog is number one than gps than steam deck
Waiting on legion go got steam deck/ win 4 only hope rog ally can come In black and update the sd card spot they do that I'm in
All you need now is a compatible eGPU & you can take it to the next level. That's my goal. Damn things are expensive tho..
What is a egpu
@@troymoviemadness7130 An external graphics unit. Basically it boosts the performance when you decide to dock to the tv.
it's an external GPU that you can plug into any PC instead of installing a dedicated GPU. Mostly meant for laptops or if you wanted to dock the ally and get more power
What is the the white mouse on the desk please?
it was the mx master 3s
Better updates and support with Valve.
youre not suppposed to have issues with harry potter game, run it at 23W custom fan curve you're getting 40 + fps on more then low settings
Ah thanks. Since I changed the VRAM usage the issues have seemingly stopped actually. Just gets hot which is expected
it is bad, SD reader malfunction after 6 weeks of used. Too late to return, I guess I have to sell it. ( I only been using SD card for less than 10 times, and it already broken.)
Please help just got Rog Ally yesterday and got nothing but trouble I can't get any games to work right Xbox games keep crashing every single time I open it and steam game can't get the controller to work in games keep acting like mouse and keyboard and can't do anything with the build in contoller in game even tho I have it on gamepad
that's super weird, did you install/update your drivers?
@@ColeCaccamiseI got it setup and working I loving it I got help from another RUclipsr I'm new to PC I'm coming from Xbox
what was the problem?
@@ColeCaccamise The games I was trying to play game some games on Xbox ganepass just doesn't won't on PC like they supposed to and the games I was trying to play on steam didn't have controller support but I didn't know you can use community layout on steam for games that don't support controller because their community layout that setup keyboard and mouse as controller so you can play games that don't have controller support
Have you tried emulation?
I’ve not, it’s something I really do want to try though
This is a laptop with built in controllers. Say whatchu want ‘bout Steam Deck, but hands down Steam OS way better than > Windows, plus the insurmountable support from the community not to mention the fact that it’s modular.
Just wait till you get the SD card reader malfunction though. I think noone's spared from this unless you were able to control the fan curves at an early stage
Exactly why I’m not using an sd card with this
@@ColeCaccamise really no need for an sd card.... why do we need 20 games installed at once lol? 512 gb is more than enough for a few AAA games.
You have a point lmao I just always switch between games. Also for recording a video I want to go between different ones for b roll
Just recently bought an ally as well...while I spent the better half of the 1st day setting windows/downloading the launchers/ getting things the way i want them, you'll be pausing games frequently to fine tune them until you actually start playing,But man! Once ur playing its really a nice experience...till ur batt dies lol,the thumbsticks are finnicky with FPS shooters theres alot of play before your gun moves, easily remedied for shooters that have a deadzone setting tho
I actually like armory crate. But Asus needs to sort out the gyro. It's in there and with third part apps you can use it for gyro aim which for me is the only way I would play a shooter with a controller. But other than that. I mostly love it since i am not big on shooters to begin with.
I got headphones whit them omg 😲
I own one and it is so fucking awesome.
i have both and the rog ally is way better @
Same and agreed
Facts but I imagine they make a new handheld that has 360 hz 💀
For me it's the speakers and screen
Should be identical for similar wattages@fumangus69
I like the form factor and the feel of the joysticks/triggers of the deck… but the Ally is better in every other aspect imo
I had a steam deck I sold it it was bollox I've ordered the Rog
I ve watched maybe 20 vids ...sorry but for me gaming with a handheld = press power and go..( or insert a cartridge). But now: desktop mode, press settings, press tab, install launchers, choose wattage, .... Wtf 😆 this isn t progress!!!
And sorry but if you want to play AAA games you have to use the power adaptor or your battery drains crazy... Why buy a handheld if you have to plug it in the whole time??
Can y play robots on it ??
Agreed 👍
ally is the best, but i havent tried a steam deck???, as someone who has had both, the steam deck community support is second to none
0:11 real🗿used to do the same lmaooo
I absolutely disagree with the title of the video. But i guess its a question of perspective... I think that the Steam Deck ( especially if it comes to price/performance ratio ) is better by far. Before anybody tries to kill me here dont forget that outside of the United States there are other countries in the world and the Ally is way more expensive.
Rog ally is way cheaper compared to steam deck in my country. Because steam deck is not available in my country, we had to ship it, all those shipping extra cost add up a tons. I spent nearly 950 USD total for steam deck. While rog ally we could walk in retail shop to buy.
@@nbkchaosseph9066 I spent 470 on the Steam Deck. The Rog Ally is 799.
How dare u insult the RGB 😂
SD Card is not an issue anymore and yes, amazing console.
Armory crate does have the desktop mode configuring. It took me a while to set the windows macros and what not the way i like it (alt-f4 with both backtriggers, etc) but once you get it going it makes using windows with a gamepad a breeze.
How? Did asus fix it?
@@pastqr 2 or 3 bios ago they tuned the fan profiles to improve cooling
(TBH I never had an sd card issue even on turbo mode and some people have theorized it wasnt heat but a driver issue but whatever the case you dont see people having that issue anymore)
@@MarcosPrevitaliany other updates beside that?
Lol, GTA V is the mark of your childhood.
It was
@ColeCaccamise it's just amazing to me.
Somebody help me , idk what I’m doing with my ally
I’ve had a bunch of handhelds and honestly the ally has the best joysticks out of the competition.
Ranking of joysticks
1. Ally
2. Steam deck
3.Aya neo 2s
4. Rest of the market uses the terrible switch joysticks
Wow I’m surprised the ally’s are better than the steam decks
@@ColeCaccamise yes, I use the Xbox elite controller for fps. And the ally’s joysticks are very similar imo.
your best handheld just got killed by legion
I had wanted to get this originally but went with the Aya Neo 2. Much more pleasant design. Much more seamless. However I agree that these have great speakers! Probably the best speakers for handhelds. Otherwise, I hate how it looks and proportions. They could have done WAY better. Maybe in the future if they improve this then I'll go back to Asus.
I had the Ayaneo 2, but the Ayaspace is horrible
@@user-nx1qe3fg2h Totally agree! Horrible indeed. Ayaspace 2 is much better but still...leagues away from Asus and Steam Deck. Hope they hire someone great with software to address this issue!
It burns SD cards
I run mine through the charging dock . Problem solved but I am getting away from them a together SSD is the way to go !
Best gaming handheld has 2 trackpads for perfect mouse movement in OS and 50 percent of PC games. Without that you cant play half of best PC games. Nobody cares about your GTA 5 childhood dreams. It is that simple.
Lmao
Haha kids.
@@romanplacek9425 exactly. Kids playing 3rd person shooters consider Rog Ally superb machine and I get it. But playing Fallout 1, Red Alert or even newer Pillars of Eternity 2 is basically impossible on Rog Ally. So us, old school PC players, still have only one best handheld gaming device for a good price. Not to mention battery life.
Legion go blasts this out of the water
Disagree. Both have pros and cons.
Poor timing and title. Legion Go is looking to take that throne soon
It’s too bulky
@@kngjojo6944 perhaps, but it got dual USB4 function C ports for ports and external dock use
The Onexplayer 2 is the best PC handheld
I tried the Ally and really liked it (better than the Deck, imo) but the battery life was really rough, and I was getting random bluescreens, so I returned it and got the new Onexplayer 2 Pro and it's definitely worth the higher price. Way better battery life, built it kickstand, more ports, bigger screen, attachable keyboard and detachable controls so it can transform into a laptop, etc.
@@Zandercode I was curious about the steam deck at first. The price is the only thing it has over the Onexplayer 2. The Onexplayer is better in literally every other way
Battery life is horrendous
agreed
Sorry, but it's the worst portable console I've ever had in my life, mainly due to its battery life. The Steam Deck is far better; I can play a AAA game for 2.5 to 4 hours at just 9 watts.
Mark my words with time steamdeck will beat them all 😊
Been using Ally for 2 months. Love it but imo not worth it.
Some thoughts
Resolution: 1080p are useless here.
Had no crashes anything from Asus so far..had 1 windows crash thats it,D-pad deff feels cheap but i don't play fighting games so for toggling equipment in games it does the job,i agree with the RGB turn it off...also turn off rumble and maybe squeak some more batt life out of it altho not much
Stop the 🧢 the Ally is amazing plus you sound bitter 😂
@@fnggaming89 first row, two months. Glad for you is okay so far
@@SOPHISTICATED_VIBES grow up
Performance and battery is entirely down to wattage. Using 15w should give similar battery life whether it's 720p or 1080p. Thing is you shouldn't use turbo mode on battery

I heard steam deck is better
