Wow, mantis high society sure is weird. "My, your lack of a head sure is appealing today, Edward;" "Fuck off, Jessica, that's my husband you're talking to"
When I listened to the song I thought it was about two mantises who didn't want to do the thing of eating the head, but now I guess that your interpretation is more accurate
My interpretation of the song is that it's a metaphor for religiously arranged marriages and the wife kills her husband from the arranged marriage to escape the marriage and husband didnt want to be in the arranged marriage either but it ended in a tragedy
Adding to this theory, it should be mentioned that female mantises have only eaten their mates’ heads when in captivity. When they’re *forced* to occupy the same space. Like an arranged marriage.
I THOUGHT BARBARA AND CONNOR WHEN I SAW THIS COMMENT...I FORGOT CONNOR'S NAME AND WENT WITH ADAM....ironically, diana and dex were their voice things in the song, so who knows
When they say "Made to start my own happy family," I always hear "Made to start my unhappy family." I know these aren't the intended lyrics, but they still fit so well as a double meaning.
My interpretation of the ending is simple: they get married to people they don't love. Whether or not their gay doesn't quite matter in this stories, for regardless they do not love each other. And they never will. They feel guilty for not loving each and hope that their marriage could grow to a friendship perhaps never love, but a certain type of partnership. Yet as years go by they never grow to love/care for each other, if anything they slowly grew to hate each other. Still as their duties call, they raise children. It's a perfect family: a strong husband, a loving wife, a beautiful daughter, and a brave son. Yet when they look at their children they feel a sense of emptiness. It's not quite strong enough to be hatred, yet they don't view their children as their own but rather a simple duty they must fulfill. they feel disgusted for not loving them or each other, yet they couldn't bring themselves to see this family as nothing more than a trap. A lie. That's all. Perhaps their children understand that deep down their parents aren't the normal loving ones, but perhaps they think this is normal. Their children well never have the unconditional love that all children should have. Why? Because it was the same as their parents and the ones before them. These children will grow up and marry for the gain of their families. They won't love each nor will they think they should. They will have children and the cruelty will continue. There will be variations perhaps unlike their parents they will be blatant about their hatred of the marriage and to the extent their families. Perhaps they will looked elsewhere, perhaps they will kill each other. As for the bride and groom of this song? They are nothing special, they know that. Love is a luxury not a requirement. This story is perhaps a dime of a dozen. They in an extent are cowards who bend so easiltto the will of society. A society that kills them slowly and painful, yet they couldn't ever refuse. Why? Well they are far too use to the luxuries of these world, and they are scared. I said it doesn't matter if their gay or not since it's kinda true. For this story fits whether their homosexual or heterosexual ( that being said it's perfectly fine if their gay I'm not disproving it or anything) They hate themselves and each other. They hate the world and society as a whole. Yet they could never bring themselves to rebel. Perhaps the "bride" of this story is far more daring. Perhaps she is openly dissatisfied with her life and marriage. Perhaps she lashes out on her "beloved" husband. Her husband just nods, losing his will years ago. Deep down he hates her, yet he can't leave. All he can do is smile on and beg to God to kill him. His too much of a COWARD to leave. And true be told she's a hypocrite for condemning him for it. They will grow old and die, perhaps in the same bed. Perhaps holding each other, but they will NEVER hold each other so closely to their hearts.
first time hearing this, and i think this is a metaphor for lesbians and gay guys being forced to get married in some way. mostly because of the line "please don't out me" and how the 2 are forced to get married, continue tradition, and keep the genes going, as said in the song. so, i think they are both gay. the green girl is a lesbian and the brown one is gay. they went to conversion therapy and after they were "cured" they got married against their will mostly. after a while, they had to give in to their urges and stuff, and maybe that's symbolized by green earing browns head after they fuck? idk, I'm tired. I'm probably wrong about this theory though. good song as always!
In the real world, the female mantis eats the male mantis after reproduction. So in my opinion it's not them giving in to their urges, but rather them giving in to society's expectations. Looking at the lyrics at that portion of the song, that seems to be what's implied at least.
@@pfysche2283 that makes sense since the female mantis eating the male is their “societal norm”. So it makes a good metaphor for the idea that they’ve both given into something because that’s the norm rather than it being something they actually want.

Ok so,
What I can gather from this, I think the dream was about the mantis being married but then followed about what mantis actually do
Which is basically, after they mate the female mantis could eat the male-
yeah basically. Its supposed to be a reflection of how homosexual people who are forced in the closet feel and/or are treated.
@@nanospeed2550 I don't get where everyone finds lgbtq + stuff in this song. Can you please give me a hint where is it ?

@@froggygalaxy Ahhh, right, this. Unfortunately not long after I commented this I went through a pretty rough depressive episode, which caused a pretty long hiatus with my art. In fact I was already experiencing the depressive episode, just the beginnings of it, as it was very long. I still have yet to pick up art again as I'm recovering from the aftermath. So I never got to this idea sadly. :(
Would love to revisit this sometime though. I still love this song!
Continuing the vein of weirdly relatable internet songs. Banger. The art is amazing.

Lyrics:
I was raised to never disagree
With the whims and will of society
I was taught to follow my “destiny”
Set by those who care about posterity
They told me that I would be happy
Though I feel that’s quite the contrary
I was made the lovely bride to be
Made to raise my own happy family
Despite all that I have been given
I could never see myself forgiven
If I were to ever stray away
From the path they put me underway
I was born without a right to say
My own thoughts didn’t matter anyway
What I wanted was irrelevant
My own will is thought to be decadent
Creeping, crawling, all through my very skin
Gnashing, mending, all for my only kin
Bending, breaking, buckling under thin
Bleeding, bruising, flesh from deep within
What was I to do with these tendencies?
Feeling like I committed felony
Accusations forming like treachery
I don’t want to be seen as guilty!
Heads up! Please don’t touch me!
Just hold back, please don’t hurt me!
Stay away, it’s not safe, just obey, keep at bay!
Hey, you! Please stay with me!
“Let’s be friends?”, please don’t out me!
Make amends, privileged ends, hiding sin, life begins
I was never one to disagree
With the whims and will of society
Always stick to what is familiar
Though what she feels I feel similar
Just another cog in the machine
Made to keep it lovely and pristine
I was made the handsome groom to be
Made to start my own happy family
I would always fall in line for thee
For the sake of my survivability
Never questioned what was relevant
So that I would not seem decadent
But my time has come to settle down
Set by those who would look down and frown
For the sake of my posterity
I will give my whole vitality
Mending, building up quite the matrimony
Feeling, crying out for insurgency
Walking, pacing, out so wordlessly
Gleaming, smiling, laughing so forcibly
This has always seemed like the normalcy
Acting out a lie so half-heartedly
Keep the façade up so cheerfully
Was this meant to be my eternity?
Oh the rising tides come with me
Acting like a fool with such glee
Ever waiting loyal I promise!
Ceremonial in process
Vines they grow along my vision
Oh, the lovely fruit they’ve given
Placing me into submission
Wedging cracks among division
Oh, the gentle wind that soothed me
Breezing by when I once was free
Howling into old tradition
Bending me into “perfection”
Thorns along the vines they’ve caught me
Burrowing like roots of the tree
Giving up on my whole being
Sacrifice the dreams I’m seeing
Heads up! Please don’t touch me!
Just hold back, please don’t hurt me!
Stay away, it’s not safe, just obey, keep at bay!
