The Man in Me - He was there when Dylan came to play at New York State Fair, Syracuse, NY 9/03/93

- "The Man in Me" was a staple of Dylan's overseas shows in 1978. Originally heard on his 1970 album New Morning, the song began to pop up again not infrequently for another few years starting in 1988, and was a regular feature at many if not virtually all of his 1991shows.
But Dylan played it only 3 times during his Fall 1993 US tour, so I was very happy to hear it in Syracuse that year, and have an opportunity to capture it as well.
Dylan delivers a soulful reading of the lyrics, but shifts gears to a merrier mood every time he takes a break from singing to go into one of the extended guitar jams which were a fixture of his shows at the time. While he had no choice but to sing, it seems more than anything else, Dylan came to play!
