I made a follow up video specifically on how to use the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 with the Prompter since that was a super common question here. It’s totally possible and relatively simple, but needs a few adjustments first: ruclips.net/video/tuu70T3-FlY/видео.html
2:34 - if it’s iPhone and Mac, you can wirelessly screen share to your Mac and BOOM your Mac is now a monitor for your camera. If you have an Apple Watch, you can control the normal camera app and see it on the camera control app on your watch. 👍🏻
Great video. It's nice to see someone go in-depth about using the prompter with phones & other devices, as not everyone will be using a camera to film.
This is the Sennheiser EW-DP with the Omni 100 mic and it just naturally sounds pretty dang good. I added a little bit of compression and a high pass filter in editing, but that's it. I really love this setup.
Great video. Thanks, Tom. I just used mine for the first time about a week ago, and it was really helpful. The app is very limited, though, so I used Teleprompter Pro instead, which is heaps better. Love your constant play on words!
I’m hoping they’ll update the app over time, but even with its limitations it’s not bad for a 1.0. I’ll have to check out Teleprompter Pro though! Thanks for the recommendation 👍
Yeah, the demand seems to be through the roof. But even though the shipping estimates are absurd at the moment, I think it's worth getting on the list. I've had a few friends and viewers end up having their shipped much earlier than originally expected.
Made my own XL version with a 15.6" second-monitor screen, a teleprompter large enough to cover up to 16" screens and some basic and minimal 3D printed items to bring it all together. It's big, bright and beautiful!
In the clip at 2:50, you talked about using an HDMI adapter to connect the phone to a monitor. Do you need to download any apps for that, or is it simply plug and play? Will I need to purchase a capture card? Could you please walk me through the steps?
With an iPhone it's plug and play (as long as it's the official Apple adapter or an "MFI" certified one). You could also use the phone as a USB webcam and then run it through the Camera Hub software or something like Ecamm or OBS to monitor and record directly from your computer 👍
Awesome video Tom thanks for the amazing overview on adaptability ontop of an already amazing review. Just a few things to note: 1 is that Prompter's DisplayLink USB-C port can actually be used with Android devices specifically since they have support for Displaylink. Apple iOS unfortunately does not have this - but maybe someday those 2 will work together, it's just out of our hands ha. There are 2 potential workarounds for iPhone users though: a) Prompter's display could be removed if one were inclined - and the Prompter's design has enough flexibility where one could either string together some off the shelf parts or even 3D print parts that can hold a phone in place of the display. b) The much simpler method I've successfully used is I simply lay my microfiber cloth on Prompter's display and then rest my iPhone on top of that. It's actually kind of nice just being able to rest the phone on there and not have to worry about clamping/unclamping as the force from that adjustment can shift my camera's POV where as placing it (carefully) doesn't have this effect. The downside here is you'd need a fairly level shot so as to not cause any sliding on the phone. The second thing to note is that if you use a couple of off the shelf parts - namely a 1/4" male to 1/4" male coupler, and a smartphone grip with multiple mounting points, you can mount that grip to where the camera bracket normally screws in - and this provides your phone a way to mount directly to Prompter vertically without being upside down.
Haha, that one is actually kind of a piece of junk so I purposely do NOT recommend it 😅 However I do have 2 Lilliput 4K monitors that are quite fantastic and I definitely recommend! bhpho.to/49v2Cwr
Thank you for showing more about how to use a smartphone with this prompter. Another idea of having the screen of your smartphone visible would be to replace the universal shroud with a 3d printed part that has a cutout for the camera bump of a smartphone. Would be cool if Elgato could provide 3d printable files for different iPhone sizes on their prompter page.
I think they really underestimated the demand for it, but I'd definitely get on the waiting list as soon as you can since it seems like some shipments are going out ahead of schedule.
I felt the same way when the first round of reviews. It seems they are respecting the order that orders come in, so it’s better to queue up now. I ordered mine in October and received it just before Christmas.
Great video. I think I’m sold! Also what lapel setup did you use for this video? I know in the past they haven’t been your favorite. This worked well and sounded great
Since the phone might give you a clip that's upside down, you can fix it during editing, or if you're streaming, you can do it in real time with streaming software like Ecamm or OBS. Super nifty!
It'd be really nice if Elgato had a quick-release option for mounting different devices, but i guess you could always use something like the falcam f22 mounting system for different devices...
If your filter has threads on the end then you can just add the prompter adapter on top of it. Sadly most filters are NOT threaded like that though (the only one I have that is is ironically the cheapest one I own), so in that case you need to use the shroud backplate and probably set the camera and Prompter on separate stands. I've been wishing that someone would make a stronger camera platform for bigger cameras.
Thanks for this video. I purchased to use with my GoPro Hero 12 and even on Linear using the same mount you show @ 4:58, I still see the top left and right of the Prompter and portions of the screen. Did you have to crop in addition to using the Linear lense?
Hi Tom, quick question: on 8:12 I see you mounted the Sony XLR-K3M on top of your camera, with a top handle. But how do you connect the XLR-K3M with your camera? Because the hot shoe of your camera is occupied, right?
The FX3 has a built in "audio handle" which is basically the K3M attached to a handle, so it all still goes through the hot show. The audio quality and controls are the same as the standalone K3M. 👍
Awesome review, as usual. Can this be used as a secondary computer monitor for zoom calls? I think it would be cool so you could look right at the person (via the camera) instead of above their head.
You should be able to use the platform and shroud attachment. If the Pocket 3 is too tall, it might need to be on a separate stand behind the prompter.
This was so good! I'm actually torn right now between getting a glide gear teleprompter to use with 10.2" iPad or alternatively the Elgato for talking head language education type content. Which setup would you choose for that sort of thing? Many thanks!
I would choose the Elgato 100% I just can't deal with tablet/phone based prompters anymore since the whole thing always ends up being so clunky. The only time I'd really recommend one of those is if you need to be "on location" or in a run and gun situations (then one of the phone-based prompters could be super helpful).
@@tombuck Awesome! Elgato it is! Thanks for helping me make this decision - I really appreciate it. I feel super confident in the Elgato now. Cheers! P.s thanks for all the outstanding content in general

Also, You made somewhat a software video before, could you update it with for example sites that creates Ai visuals for making for example step by step videos? Or in general, how to use Ai with for example Rodecaster II. Thanks for the good job!
Thanks for the kind words! I haven't really done much exploration with AI visuals myself (other than Photoshop's generative fill), so I don't know that I'd be the best person to speak on it.
It's not a problem to be, but I totally understand that it could be distracting. I think a bit of electrical tape could probably cover it up if needed.
@@tombuck thanks for the reply! That's exactly what I'm doing now, had some weird reactions on the gimbal but it could also be due to temperature. Still an incredible camera :)
There IS, but it's a little fidgety and tricky. Now that I have it figured out, I'm going to try and make a video on it. You basically need to reverse the mounting stand to allow for the height of the Pocket 3
Hi Tom, since you are probably one of the most knowledgeable people on RUclips about Elgato products, I've got a problem no one has made a video on. I need help with a big problem. I have the Elgato Prompter, Facecam Pro4K60fps, the Elgato Streamdeck plus and I cannot find a way to be able to read from the prompter or even access it from either Zoom or StreamYard. I have the wavelink software and the camera hub installed, but nothing helps and I cannot find any RUclips videos that tell me how to put this all together and make it work. Thanks in advance.
Hooray for 3D printing! The GoPro mount is just one I found on Amazon. I like the solid metal ones vs. the plastic standard ones. But there are so many options when it comes to printing stuff for cameras (and drones)!
Thanks for this! Very helpful. I was just wondering if it could be used with a Sony ZV-E10 camera with the kit lens only (which doesn't have any threads to screw an adapter onto)?
Does the kit lens not have any threads? I had no idea. If that’s the case, the ZVE10 is plenty light enough ought to to use the platform/shroud combo 👍
Yes! I just bought these last week and they've worked well so far: geni.us/jAd1nHQ Basically I think any 20gbps or higher cable should get the job done.
Hi Tom! Can you mount the Sony ZV-E10 lens? Just trying to see if it has screw mount on the end of it in photos as I'm looking at this primarily for the prompter. Thanks!
I’m not connected with Elgato and I have no idea. But I would just get on the waitlist as soon as possible- it seems like a lot of orders end up shipping out early.
Hi Tom, once again, another great video. Good explanation. What are the chances (in your opinion) of another Elgato Prompter coming out with a larger size Prompter?
I honestly don't know! I think they seriously underestimated the demand for this, so now maybe they would be more interested in looking at other versions?
Tom, great videos, thanks so much. Might buy this, and found another person who went directly from an Android phone into Prompter. Can you test to see if it works on yours? Never saw this before.
Tom. I loved the video and I'm really close to buying one, BUT one thing scares me.. My laptop which I use only has one USB connection, literally just one.. I use a USB hub--which I plug in both my Rodecaster Pro and Sony A5100 camera into, then into the computer.. FWIW, I've had zero RCP or Camera issues plugging into a hub and then my laptop.. Am I going to have a problem if I can't put my prompter directly into my laptop USB slot? Literally, me buying the prompter is pending based on this answer.. Thanks!
To be honest I’m not 100% sure but I think it depends on the hub. Some hubs are better at distributing power than others (if your hub requires its own power supply there’s a good chance it’ll work). It might be worth asking Elgato’s support team for a definitive answer though. 🤞
So I love following you, and my setup has your gear package all over it - and I would love one of these promoters - but there doesn't even seem to be a roadmap to deliver them. Thoughts or any info on this?
Hi, I bought the elgato prompter and I really love it. Although, I have realised a small problem after filming myself with it and I wonder if you have any solution for that. The passing text seem to affect the lighting. I get lighter and darker as the text passes by the camera and I can see it on my blue shirt while editing. Is there any solution to that? Have you experienced anything like this? Thanks!
Glad you're enjoying the Prompter overall! If the text is affecting the lighting/image, you can try changing colors to see if that helps (darker colors are usually less noticeable). You can also adjust the screen's brightness. I usually have mine at about 60% to reduce any glare/unwanted light
I would have to get used to them tho, A script right in front of the camera! I could have one, or would I use my laptop as a teleprompter? (That would be a really big teleprompter! 😅)
Hi Tom, just discovered your channel - great stuff! When you're talking about using the iPhone with the Prompter, what is the small external monitor you use when discussing how to see what you're filming? As a solo performer/filmer, I've been trying to figure this out for years. Thanks!
The issue with using smartphones mounting on the Elgato prompter for recording after putting on a cover is that it's difficult to see what is being recorded or to initiate recording because there is no remote control. My question is: what is the Elgato app for smartphones that allows users to connect and control video recording from their PC?
Hi Tom, great video! I’m currently using an iPhone 15 promax with the Freewell ND/mist filter that mounts to the phone via magnet attachment. Would this fit through the promoters view hole?
As a retired news anchor who bought it to produce content for my real estate business -- i wanted this to work, begged it to work, prayed that it would work -- but -- I could NOT get it to work. It worked just fine hardwired to my monitor -- but the moment I disconnected my laptop from the desktop monitor -- the camera wouldn't work. The monitor worked just fine but the camera wouldn't connect to the software anymore. This is a huge problem because I need to be able to shoot content from anywhere outside of my office. SO INSANELY FRUSTRATING. Currently, it's packed back up and ready to be returned.
I was about to buy this prompter but when I realised i could not have my phones feed directly on the prompter screen I backed off from it. I need a portable solution that I can shoot with my phone and not depend on a computer and power source AND see what my phone sees.
Hi Tom, what tripod head and stand is being used in the video? I’m Looking to use a similar setup but looking at the best stand for my gear and prompter
Hey Tom, cheers from France. You have been and you are such a source of inspiration. Tom, my MBP uses only USB-C since it's the M1Pro. 1st, does this work with my Cal digit USB hub, and 2nd, if I use the prompter in the field and I must bring my Laptop...can you recommend a USB-C to USB-C cord that will work with it?
So, it can definitely be used with a GoPro? You did nothing more than put the camera in linear mode? Also, with a second phone you could monitor the camera view via Quick App.
I have not- I borrowed the Sigma lens for a few months from B&H and used it with the prompter just fine. Maybe there's an issue with the threading of either the lens of the ring? That'd be a bummer though 😕
Hi, i'm using a sony ev-10 with a 16mm and an L attachment on a tripod to actually shoot vertically, can you tell me if i can use the elgato prompter in this setup ? i still want to shoot verticaly

To be honest I’m not 100% sure but I think it depends on the hub. Some hubs are better at distributing power than others (if your hub requires its own power supply there’s a good chance it’ll work). It might be worth asking Elgato’s support team for a definitive answer though. 🤞
the trick to get the phone vertical is very smart :)
Can you use the prompter for vertical video with mirrorless cameras or is it just too small?
So I love following you, and my setup has your gear package all over it - and I would love one of these promoters - but there doesn't even seem to be a roadmap to deliver them. Thoughts or any info on this?
Hi,
I bought the elgato prompter and I really love it.
@@tombuck Thanks for the idea, I will check that out! And also thanks for the quick reply, I really appreciate it!👍🏻
I would have to get used to them tho, A script right in front of the camera!
I could have one, or would I use my laptop as a teleprompter? (That would be a really big teleprompter! 😅)
There's definitely a learning curve with prompters, but it's not too difficult to overcome.
Awesome video! Just a shame we can't really buy it anywhere in the Netherlands currently.
thank you!
Hi Tom, just discovered your channel - great stuff! When you're talking about using the iPhone with the Prompter, what is the small external monitor you use when discussing how to see what you're filming? As a solo performer/filmer, I've been trying to figure this out for years. Thanks!
For iPhone to see yourself in frame you can use your Apple Watch or Continuity feature on Mac to use your phone as a webcam.
Does this mean I can attach a webcam to the prompter and then mount the propmter onto the elgato ring light ?
The issue with using smartphones mounting on the Elgato prompter for recording after putting on a cover is that it's difficult to see what is being recorded or to initiate recording because there is no remote control. My question is: what is the Elgato app for smartphones that allows users to connect and control video recording from their PC?
Hi Tom, great video! I’m currently using an iPhone 15 promax with the Freewell ND/mist filter that mounts to the phone via magnet attachment. Would this fit through the promoters view hole?
Can you use an iPhone 15 filming with the wide angle lens?
@@delainemathieutx the camera stops working? Where in obs?
I was about to buy this prompter but when I realised i could not have my phones feed directly on the prompter screen I backed off from it. I need a portable solution that I can shoot with my phone and not depend on a computer and power source AND see what my phone sees.
How would I go about mounting to a vesa mount for a monitor arm
So if using the kit lens on a sony ZVe 10 for example, that has motorized zoom I assume you need to use the shroud adaptor and plate?
Yeah, that's definitely the way to go if you have a lens that moves in any way.
To monitor your phone if you have a smart watch you could do that.
Hey that's a fun idea!
Tom, any chance you have looked into seeing if this can work with the Osmo Pocket 3??
I haven't tried it myself yet, but I REALLY want a Pocket 3, so I'm hoping to find a Black Friday deal 🤞
I have a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 would i be able to use this teleprompter
Hi Tom, what tripod head and stand is being used in the video? I’m
Looking to use a similar setup but looking at the best stand for my gear and prompter
Hey Tom, cheers from France. You have been and you are such a source of inspiration. I love your setup, I love your knowledge, I love your education abilities, I love your humour, or not :-) :-) but honestly mate you are doing an incredible amount of insightful work and I love it. I have built my own WFH space with many of your advices. This is a journey and you know this is always improving how fast it goes. I have fun with those geek techs and it makes my life better to work and to create. Thanks buddy! You are great !
Tom, my MBP uses only USB-C since it's the M1Pro. 1st, does this work with my Cal digit USB hub, and 2nd, if I use the prompter in the field and I must bring my Laptop...can you recommend a USB-C to USB-C cord that will work with it?
What if you are using your Mac book pro camera teaching live -do I just put it behind the Mac book?
What about a Osmo pocket 3?
Is there any way to use this type of prompter if I have four screens (2 bottom 2 Top)? Thank you
does it reflect off glasses?
Did the Insta360 Link not have issues with its Status LEDs on the bottom reflecting off the see-through mirror ??
It can be visible depending on how bright the promoter’s display is set, but it doesn’t cause any issues.
@@tombuck Thank you for clearing that up, I will take it into account for my purchase decision
Hi. How is that platform called and where can I find it? (To mount the go pro). Thank you!
It's just the default platform that comes with the prompter (can't remember if it's attached out of the box or not?)
Do you think the Prompter would work with the Obsbot Tail Air?
I’my should as long as the camera isn’t moving (which might defeat its purpose).
Can the iPhone be in a vertical position?
So, it can definitely be used with a GoPro? You did nothing more than put the camera in linear mode?
Also, with a second phone you could monitor the camera view via Quick App.
Yes, it works just fine in Linear mode and the camera app monitor is a GREAT idea.
I can't wait for a time when I can actually buy one. 😢
It'll be worth the wait!
I have had trouble getting the 67mm filter on my Sigma 16 1.4. Have you had any trouble with that @tombuck?
I have not- I borrowed the Sigma lens for a few months from B&H and used it with the prompter just fine. Maybe there's an issue with the threading of either the lens of the ring? That'd be a bummer though 😕
Is it possible to use this with DJI Pocket 3?
In theory yes, but I don't have the Pocket 3 myself so I can't say for sure. I see no reason why it wouldn't work with the shroud backplate though.
I usa the logitech C922 webcam what will be the best way to use this with Prompter
You can mount it the same way I used the Link webcam in this video (with the shroud backplate).
Thanks@@tombuck
Hi, i'm using a sony ev-10 with a 16mm and an L attachment on a tripod to actually shoot vertically, can you tell me if i can use the elgato prompter in this setup ? i still want to shoot verticaly
When is the Elgato Prompter coming back in stock?
It seems like it still isn't in stock (end of May 2024)
It goes in and out of stock pretty regularly, but wait times overall seem to be much less now.
@@tombuck Thank you for the answer. Any idea if the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 will fit fine with the Elgato Prompter?
