I have a 2021 Mercruiser 4.5L and just got a recall on the motor. The water fittings on the manifold could blow off during operation and water will pour into the bilge areas (probably sinking the boat instantly). I got the recall notice two days before picking up the brand new boat. I have zero confidence that the dealer has a tech smart enough to fix the problem

I'm glad I saw this. I have a choice of a Bayliner 742 with either the old 4.3 or new 4.5 litre. This has helped me decide to go for the latter.

I have both the 4.5 is much better and has had less issues

I just got a recall notice on a 2021 Mercruiser 4.5L for water fitting that can blow off the manifold and sink the boat (almost instantly). The recall came two days before I was to take delivery of my new boat. The dealer was dumbfounded and I have no confidence that they even have a tech smart enough to fix it

Not almost instantly you drama queen. It can be fixed pretty easily

@@egustafson ok jackoff - that was exact words used by the dealership and they wouldn’t deliver the boat until the recall was fixed because they said it the part failed it would be likely the boat would sink and they would not want to be responsible - so I guess I’m saying to you, fuck off

@@edwardpate6128 the service department described it as the engine compartment would fill with water as long as the engine was running and you would not know it’s happening when it happens

I know this a old video, but thinking about buying a new 23 SSI with the 4.5 alpa drive. Would appreciate any input on if this would be a descent motor choice? Reliability issues, etc.

No doubt these are two to three times the price of the fully developed 4.3 GM built versions. The 4.3 is as common as dirt, have countless hours of development, as such, they are the better choice. This all new engine is going to have teething issues...and as it appears, the mentioned water fitting could wind up sinking the whole boat in one swipe...so much for "new & improved".
