      @@wadestoss3325 I can fight for other promotions if I get the green light from Bellator. I've fought a couple times in China since I signed with them.
      I haven't talked with K-1 in a while. Last time I got offered a fight it was such a small purse. I was still fighting for Glory then. I'll have to see if I can find their contact info and then check in again and see if they have a larger offer.

    It's both funny and sad that KB pays so much less than the UFC when the most beloved fights in the UFC were basically just KB fights but with less gloves. Thanks for sharing this info man. Really interesting and it's a shame that the purseholders try to keep such a tight lid on this kind of information. Not only in KB but in these sports in general.

    It's a shame that kickboxing isn't getting as much money as compared to boxing and MMA.
    You would think it would be A LOT more popular because of the majority of casual UFC fans not liking the grappling bits unless it's a slam or a quick submission.
    Maybe kickboxing needs a braggadocios fighter in order to pull in more people.
    Boxing had Floyd Mayweather, MMA had Conor McGregor
    🤔🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @GabrielVargaOfficial
      @GabrielVargaOfficial  5 лет назад +8

      Yes it's too bad. And it hurts the sport because kickboxing stars transition to MMA. Gokan Saki, Israel Adesanya, and Joe Schilling to name just a few.

    Wow! I find this video very informative. I have been a boxing fan for very many years but I wasn't very informed about their purses. I didn't have a way of getting that information. Also, I wasn't yet at a stage in life where that information was interesting to me. But now I am very interested in such information as the era of struggle and 9-5 is passing away in my life. I am surprised how little my internet research into kick-boxers' pay purses actually is. If you're going to do something for a living loving it is not enough. You gotta be able to build security for yourself and your family, else go get a 9-5 job and do what you love on the side. Thanks for the video Gabriel..

    In Greece for a pro fight you won't get over a 100€. Maybe 2000€ for an 8 man tournament. And we have lots of great talent.

    • @GabrielVargaOfficial
      @GabrielVargaOfficial  4 года назад +2

      Wow. That's not much of a purse for the amount of hard work that goes into preparing.
      I think the only way to make good money is sign with the largest promotions. ONE FC, GLORY, Bellator, Rizen, etc.
      If you fight in Canada on local promotions the purse would be very small as well.

    • @Johnhatzijohn
      @Johnhatzijohn 4 года назад +2

      @@GabrielVargaOfficial The problem is that in Greece you have to do go to university to even have a chance at life and work simultaneously if needed. So training like a high level athlete is very difficult. And as amateurs you can only count on finding some good sponsors. Are else if you want to compete internationally... you'll have to spend thousands.

    I’m sure we all as viewers wished some numbers were dropped in the video but other than that good info. I believe it really just takes either that one matchup or that one star to lift kickboxing. It’s true the other two sports are already established and have a large enough following to make millions. But they weren’t always that way. Jack Dempsey was the first boxer to break a million dollar gate. And in ufc less than 10 years ago there were less fighters making a million in one night than we can count on one hand. kb is growing and becoming more and more established with big shows like GLORY, ONE and Bellator. Each of the 3 promotion building stars of their own it will help the sport drastically

    • @GabrielVargaOfficial
      @GabrielVargaOfficial  5 лет назад +3

      Thanks. I wish I could share more but the contracts are strict and I don't want to upset Bellator or Glory.
      You're right...kickboxing needs one breakout fighter who makes big $. Once that happens it will open up for others. Buakaw does very well but I think he'd do even better if he wasn't from Thailand.

      This video showed back up on my feed but circling back to this I also wish that Tenshin stayed in kickboxing. He had a dedicated, ticket buying and ppv buying fan base that no one else in kb had this far. Similar to the likes of McGregor pull in his prime. Specially at such a young age I feel like had he been given exposure to this side of the world and stayed in kb ,kb would be on another level. Superlek vs Takeru was way far behind in the shadows of Tenshin vs Takeru. Very exciting fight but a fraction of the fans spent the money to watch it

    Any tips for how to even enter events? Do you need an agent or just hope your gym is well connected enough to set up reliable bouts? It seems like the common thread is that you need people to care about you as a fighter.

    • @GabrielVargaOfficial
      @GabrielVargaOfficial  3 года назад +4

      Yes. That's hard.
      It's best to have a gym connected with local events and big promotions. That way you can compete at home while building your name locally. Then when you get enough experience you can head to the promotions that fly you in.
      I just sent video footage of myself around until someone offered me a pro fight.
      Then I emailed K-1 until they gave me an opportunity to fight Lerdsila.

    Some of the highly paid Kickboxing / Muay Thai fighters like Allazov, Tawanchai (recently won 6million baht in thailand) and Petrosyan recently signed on with Billionaire Chatri from One Championship... Im guessing the prize pool and salary are that attractive enuff for them to make a switch. Of course it's not solely about money. Like I previously commented it's:
      1. Love the sport
      2. Win belts
      3. Get paid
      But if you fight forever without getting paid you'd be a fool. Promotions are making money off you. You sacrifice so much to reach the top level. Therefore at some point you should be compensated as a high level professional athlete. That's way UFC fighters are arguing for more money. This becomes your job at some point. If you're a amateur or lower level pro then money isn't a concern. But I think focusing on getting paid after being #1 in the world is important.
