Best video hands down from start to finish. People of the sturgeon! Welcome to the club. Once you see one swim through, even if you don't spear it, it is simply life changing.
Man, that video is awesome! Really showcases what it's all about right there. I've sent the link to all my brothers and my Dad, we have had more than a few celebratory screaming sessions while fishing together.
Last year was my first season ice fishing and this video had me taken right back to the moment my buddy pulled a 38 inch northern on 4lb test. The cheering and chanting after the fish hit the ice was identical. Loved the content and congrats Jake!
Great story! I have binge watched most of your deer videos and almost didn’t click on this one because it’s a fish. But, you are spearing, and that’s hunting, so I watched it. Good job with the story Jake!
Okay...this was like "deer camp" mixed with "the running of the bulls" mixed with some First Nation ancient ritual that culminated in a colossal fish fry! I love it!!!!!! Nothing like this in Missouri.
Ya know I thought I might actually dislike this video without the pretense but after watching it my mind changed quickly, awesome catch man! I love the culture and the heritage aspect and then to still enjoy it with family and friends is great.
Sturgeon spearing is a great tradition my family has 6 shanties and has been spearing since 1955. We usually spear in the Stockbridge area with great success. We cut our holes in completely different with a sled saw and flip our block.
It's taken me 8 years to get an upriver lakes tag, but I'll be on Poygan Saturday! Really pumped! This video is excellent! Nice job. Good luck to everyone on the ice this year and stay safe!
I've been spearing for 20 years now and it I too look forward to it more than gun camp, hands down. I discovered THP this September. Searched RUclips for spearing (to calm the itch) and the #1 recommended video ...this one!!!!! We spear off the northeast shores along Stockbridge and high cliff. This video fully embodies the excitement of the spearing tradition! Well done and good luck spearing to those lucky enough to partake in the spearing tradition.
This is the best video I've seen from you guys yet. I'm a Midwesterner that came north and heard about this last year, I'd love to see this action live!
Well now that was something different! I knew when the caption said "Looking at deer photos" and showing the hole, one would swim by! lol Congrats on that big boy (or girl?)!!!
Wow, I never knew that sport existed until now, looked like alot of fun, Sounded like you guys just shot a 180 inch deer with all that cheering lol !awesome! congrats!
Honestly man I can't even really describe how awesome this video was! That looks like some of the absolute best times you can have on the lake, that was incredible. And a hell of a job spearing and gaffing that trophy of a fish holy cow. 10/10 I subscribed haha hopefully you're back out there this season and get another one!!!
I would like to know who made the 1 tine spear. It looks like one of 19 that I made. Have you speared one with it ? If so it would make you a member of the one time club. Corky
I wouldn't know a sturgeon if it bit me on the ass but that was cool and fun to watch! We freak out down here in Mississippi when we get a couple inches of snow, you guys are having a family reunion on the ice lol.
we use 5 tine spears with a detachable heads with a rope tied to the head and the handle, so we don't have to monkey with the handle when we're pulling a fish out
Jason - Thanks! Jake did an awesome job from start to finish producing this episode. It's one of the best videos I've watched in a long time. It's pretty cool when you can blend culture, education, and genuine excitement all in one show like that!
Jake, Quick on the draw there guy! Good for you ! I nonce had a 8 plus footer drag me down the Columbia River here in Oregon for a 1 1/2 miles before it snapped my rod. Was getting tired a started horsing it, my fault. Just for the heck of it , you might use a felt pen and write on inside wall the date, time. length, and weight , and name of each catch. Love those hunting videos too. Merry Christmas and a bloody New Year hunting.
So what happens when everybody leaves , is there square holes of open water left all over that you need to look out for like land mines until it refreezes? also, can one fish for a sturgeon with hook and line through the icE ? thank you
Sight fishing happens a lot of places. People always or should always mark the hole with sticks etc. It is people's job on the ice to be aware of the hazards though.
We had a dead Sturgeon show up on the big fencing under the bridge of the Columbia Canal here in South Carolina. Said it was over 100 lbs. 10 or 15 years ago.
I'm going back and rewatching all the thp videos and I did not appreciate this video enough the first time. Absolutely amazing Jake!

Spear fishing sturgeon is amazing, catching one on a line is rare too, such a good experience. Very jealous of you 😂 congrats on the prehistoric fish!
Nice fish. This looks like a blast. Forget normal ice fishing. Spear ice fishing in a heated box drinking beer is the way to go
That was a GREAT video! Wonderful job showing the whole process and excitement of the moment. Congrats on a wonderful fish.

When cutting in go inside the shack and scratch out a line around the hole. Pull shack off that spot and cut. Perfect size hole every time.
That was the coolest thing ever congratulations
Nice video... well put together!
Awesome video!
U should have included the cleaning and prep in the video i would have love to see it. Great video

Sight fishing happens a lot of places. People always or should always mark the hole with sticks etc. It is people's job on the ice to be aware of the hazards though.
We put lathe on both side of the hole frozen into the ice. It's actually a law to do it.
We had a dead Sturgeon show up on the big fencing under the bridge of the Columbia Canal here in South Carolina. Said it was over 100 lbs. 10 or 15 years ago.
Hahaha the reaction is the best!
Nice job whoever ran the gaff! Looks like it wasn't his first time!

Amazing catch ! I've always wanted to try something like this , its weird to see a fish big enough to be cleaned like a deer lol
In Florida, sturgeon kills you! Seriously, though, what a great fish. What drive to keep the focus knowing you probably won't see one. Congrats!
Great fish guys
