Thanks for this thorough and honest testing, I’ve been considering the DeWalt for a while as I have other power tools from them so batteries available and your review and opinions from the other pros make it a no brainer for me now. As a weekend warrior who will only use it a few times a year on my driveway it’ll be ideal. Very surprised the flex didn’t seem to score well though lots of pros in the UK seem to run them 🤷🏻♂️

Thanks for the video. I've been considering the dewalt for awhile now primarily because I'm already heavily invested in the Dewalt ecosystem and already have plenty of batteries. This finally sold me on it.
@hcivic The DeWalt is awesome, because I've started my polishing career with DeWalt so when I started buying cordless polishers that was one that I purchased and also 2, I also purchased the flex XCE-XFE-PXE the Makita and the spta. I liked the DeWalt better then secondly the flex. But one thing about these cordless polishers they are for polishing and waxing not cutting, you can cut with the DeWalt and the flex but your batter time would be less. The advantage I had with the DeWalt is I had the ecosystem for it already. I had 2 9AH and 4 6AH batteries and the power was way longer than the standard 4ah and 5ah batteries the other polishers offer.
Hey Scott awesome video, are any of the polishers for sale, I've had a few if these here but sold them all because there wasn't a need for them as I thought. But once I didn't have any now I need one there's a big need for one because if the Instances of doing things without a power source or just touching up something outside if my shop for a customer or doing something away from the shop. Let me k ow I'd be interested in either the flex or the shine mate.
Love your videos on these polishers Scott. Question, have you ever tried the Milwaukee 15mm or 21mm orbital polishers? I have a ton of Milwaukee products already and have several batteries. I will be the weekend warrior who will use it occasionally on my cars.

Thank you Scott! I think I will buy either the Shinemate or Popman. As a mobile detailer, this could be useful for applying CarPro Essence+ and when I do scratch repairs. The noise is not an issue for me because I use noise cancellation headphones while polishing. The deciding factor will be batteries I think. I will have to re-watch part one for how long the tool can work and how long to recharge as well as extra battery costs. This was a great review, very well done!

Awesome thanks. It's unlike that I will use a cordless, but I was definitely curious about them. The problem I would have is that I only use my polisher a few times a year at most. Rechargeable batteries have limited lifespan, especially if you don't use them too often.

I'm a DIY'er and I think the Kobalt is the sleeper of the bunch. If you're already on the battery platform, the tool sales for around $100 year round. Plus I have a rapid charger which cuts the charge time in half. Way less expensive than the other decent brands.
Fantastic in depth reviews. From a review by a pro I saw you would be far better with a Shine mate 6" - 21mm throw, more power, cuts far better than the 5" which pro detailers seem obsessed with - need another battery though.
Milwaukee, & their line of M18 2684 15mm, & M18 2685 21mm orbitals can do anything chorded polishers can, & more. At this stage most are highly vested with Milwaukee, & they all have plenty of Red Lithium on standby. With maybe one, or two exceptions none of these make the cut.
I watched this because I need to polish a moored boat so 240volt polisher (australia) is not a good idea, (drop that overboard) just a different perspective, an exhaustive and detailed insight, thanks
Great work Scott. I bought 2 Shine Mate cordless polishers, a 3” and a 5”, and they are all I use now. I did end up buying extra batteries to make it 4 for the two machines. Lloyd
.my main factor in a cordless is, does it use a quality battery I can get locally? This leaves you with dewalt, makita, Milwaukee..or something like SPTA thst can use a makita battery. These machines can use adapters to run other brand batterries
Scott used your link to purchase as 2nd polisher got the POPOMAN 20v PMPO01D KIT: with 2nd battery out door with tax for $176.77 since only 4-6 cars year and half the price of the Shinemate I figure I can through it away when it dies . I believe Max Shine will be coming out with a cordless polisher at SEMA at the latest. I where noise canceling true wireless ear buds when polishing so the noise I won't even hear it. I had been eying that Dewalt polisher but that proprietary backing plate and unbalanced build are huge turnoffs, along with it having a 15mm throw (as per people who own it), sure it cuts faster areas than an 8-9mm throw but might be harder to use on cars with excessive/tight curves, or so I've heard. The Makita looks like a good option but if the random-orbit option is nearly useless, then the caveat is that we are paying extra $$$, maybe Makita should cut costs and make it just a forced rotation polisher.
Agreed on both accounts. Manufacturers could learn a lot here...take bits and pieces from each and build a fantastic one. Flex is close (just needs more power and it would be a home run) but it has a proprietary plate too!
Amazon's not sure when the Popoman is coming back in but there is something called an Aleapow or something along those lines and it looks like it's the same exact thing as the Popoman? Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I own an SSR scratch repair business, I use the Makita, the Flex XFE150 and the Flex PE80, I found the Makita better than the Flex XFE 150. Plus the Flex XFE150 switch died after I’d say 30 uses and I’ve been waiting 10 months to get it back from the repairer. The PE80 is ok but I don’t think it’s got the torque that it’s proposed to have, and what the bigger polishers have. I do prefer the Makita.

Thanks for your comprehensive review! It is sad to see that these polishers haven't evolved much. To me, they are just too heavy, very noisy and vibrate too much. I was looking for a brushless polisher that could be plugged into the mains, but they do not exist yet, only as cordless with battery. I am not happy with any of these cordless polishers as you constantly run out of battery very quickly. Why don't the manufacturers produce a "dummy" battery that connects via a cord and plugs into the mains? Brushless motors have higher efficiency and are more quieter. I guess that by mounting a brushless motor vertically directly on top of the rotating plate ("direct drive"?) would reduce more the vibration and noise, and increase efficiency. Of course, it could become more expensive because of the control electronics needed, but I think that it would be worth it.
I agree. They all still have a little ways to go, but I think they are close to that "perfect one". The smoothness of the Flex, the power of the Makita, all with a fast charge time, and a long runtime...with light weight and balance, moderate cost, and low heat. There's a lot to "balance" there.
So after watching, I'm kinda left unimpressed with all of them.. I figured there was still not a genuine corded replacement yet, but I had high hopes after hearing people talk about how great the ShineMate cordless was. But if it doesn't even out power the Flex XFE, which I've used, and has all that vibration even with just a foam pad, it's definitely not for me. How does the Makita do cutting in forced rotation? Does it feel as "torquey" as a corded forced polisher? I wish it worked a bit better in free spin. I'm thinking I'll start with a compact cordless first and wait for some second gen cordless full size polishers. Plus minis get used a bit less so the batteries won't degrade as fast. That's an important factor you touched on that's easy to overlook. I'll wait for your video, but I've been leaning heavily toward the PXE80 or maybe the Shinemate. I usually use pneumatic minis so I'm sure any of them would feel underpowered coming from there.
I agree. I think it's probably 7/10 of the way there for a complete replacement. Makita has plenty of torque in forced rotation. Mini 3" video coming this weekend!
I ordered both the 3" and 5" tools from them and shipping was very reasonable at $22 USD via UPS and it got here to Texas in just over a week. The amount of the tool varies daily for us due to the exchange rate.
Hey Scott - very impressed by your extremely thorough reviews. Can you provide a bit of an update on how the Popoman is working out for you? Also, any chance you’ve looked at the SPTA V2? It’s supposedly quite improved. I’m trying to find a lower cost cordless DA for use on a boat in the water, so trying to keep away from AC voltage, and expensive OOPS if one gets dipped. Thanks for what you do and the incredible time investment you put into all these reviews.

#POPOMAN for life! Yea, I’m a budget and picked up that Green & Yellow polisher a couple weeks back. I got it for about $120! Works ok for a greenhorn. But i am still looking for a nice cutter (Dewalt rotary, maybe that Makita - pricey tho). Thanks for the amazing review(s) for these cordless polishers.
Thanks for doing this... and while I'd like to help you out buying purchasing a few of these, I just don't think they're there yet. Lack of power, expense of batteries and weight make me think that corded tools are going to be around in shops for some time. I can see the, being useful in remote locations, but here in the shop I'll leave the batteries behind until prices come seriously down and battery longevity goes seriously up.

I’ve been loving my ShineMate polishers - I have the corded 21mm EX620 and it’s a beast, as well as the cordless rotary and cordless 12mm/3”. Was thinking about picking up the cordless 15mm from ShineMate since I already have 4 batteries & 2 chargers.
@@JordanWells the 21mm is super mean bro, as you can tell by the corded versions. It has more vibration the 21mm so if that’s gonna bother you I’d stick with the 15MM plus you already got the rotary and the 12mm so yeah I’d say if you have a corded 21mm machine the cordless 15MM will be fine for you
@@JordanWells but sheer power alone yeah it out performs it a lot. Change the backing plate to the new Griots plate or the kamakazii backing plate and it’s smoother feels really powerful give you a sense of confidence like the Corded Flex XCE does.

Yes this is the 15 that was tested.

I own an SSR scratch repair business, I use the Makita, the Flex XFE150 and the Flex PE80, I found the Makita better than the Flex XFE 150. Plus the Flex XFE150 switch died after I’d say 30 uses and I’ve been waiting 10 months to get it back from the repairer. The PE80 is ok but I don’t think it’s got the torque that it’s proposed to have, and what the bigger polishers have. I do prefer the Makita.

Absolutely! It would be perfect for mobile detailing with a couple batteries on hand.

Thanks for your comprehensive review! It is sad to see that these polishers haven't evolved much. To me, they are just too heavy, very noisy and vibrate too much. I was looking for a brushless polisher that could be plugged into the mains, but they do not exist yet, only as cordless with battery. I am not happy with any of these cordless polishers as you constantly run out of battery very quickly. Why don't the manufacturers produce a "dummy" battery that connects via a cord and plugs into the mains? Brushless motors have higher efficiency and are more quieter. I guess that by mounting a brushless motor vertically directly on top of the rotating plate ("direct drive"?) would reduce more the vibration and noise, and increase efficiency. Of course, it could become more expensive because of the control electronics needed, but I think that it would be worth it.
I agree. They all still have a little ways to go, but I think they are close to that "perfect one".
The smoothness of the Flex, the power of the Makita, all with a fast charge time, and a long runtime...with light weight and balance, moderate cost, and low heat. There's a lot to "balance" there.
I bought a knock off makita called hy3030 for $164.00 frown eBay.it came with two 5 Ah batteries and charger . It's heavy

So after watching, I'm kinda left unimpressed with all of them.. I figured there was still not a genuine corded replacement yet, but I had high hopes after hearing people talk about how great the ShineMate cordless was. But if it doesn't even out power the Flex XFE, which I've used, and has all that vibration even with just a foam pad, it's definitely not for me.
How does the Makita do cutting in forced rotation? Does it feel as "torquey" as a corded forced polisher? I wish it worked a bit better in free spin.
I'm thinking I'll start with a compact cordless first and wait for some second gen cordless full size polishers. Plus minis get used a bit less so the batteries won't degrade as fast. That's an important factor you touched on that's easy to overlook.
I'll wait for your video, but I've been leaning heavily toward the PXE80 or maybe the Shinemate. I usually use pneumatic minis so I'm sure any of them would feel underpowered coming from there.
I agree. I think it's probably 7/10 of the way there for a complete replacement.
Makita has plenty of torque in forced rotation.

I ordered both the 3" and 5" tools from them and shipping was very reasonable at $22 USD via UPS and it got here to Texas in just over a week.
The amount of the tool varies daily for us due to the exchange rate.

Hey Scott - very impressed by your extremely thorough reviews. Can you provide a bit of an update on how the Popoman is working out for you? Also, any chance you’ve looked at the SPTA V2? It’s supposedly quite improved. I’m trying to find a lower cost cordless DA for use on a boat in the water, so trying to keep away from AC voltage, and expensive OOPS if one gets dipped. Thanks for what you do and the incredible time investment you put into all these reviews.

If you do any real work. Get the Makita. You'll have a great tool line up for carpentry tools.
I have FLEX BEAST and Rotary and neither have that battery issue, contact them and request a new battery.

Yea, I’m a budget and picked up that Green & Yellow polisher a couple weeks back. I got it for about $120! Works ok for a greenhorn. But i am still looking for a nice cutter (Dewalt rotary, maybe that Makita - pricey tho).

Thanks for doing this... and while I'd like to help you out buying purchasing a few of these, I just don't think they're there yet. Lack of power, expense of batteries and weight make me think that corded tools are going to be around in shops for some time. I can see the, being useful in remote locations, but here in the shop I'll leave the batteries behind until prices come seriously down and battery longevity goes seriously up.

I would look into the DeWalt. It's a very good all around option. It doesn't stall as much as some of the others.

I’ve been loving my ShineMate polishers - I have the corded 21mm EX620 and it’s a beast, as well as the cordless rotary and cordless 12mm/3”. Was thinking about picking up the cordless 15mm from ShineMate since I already have 4 batteries & 2 chargers.
@@JordanWells the 21mm is super mean bro, as you can tell by the corded versions. It has more vibration the 21mm so if that’s gonna bother you I’d stick with the 15MM plus you already got the rotary and the 12mm so yeah I’d say if you have a corded 21mm machine the cordless 15MM will be fine for you
@@JordanWells but sheer power alone yeah it out performs it a lot. Change the backing plate to the new Griots plate or the kamakazii backing plate and it’s smoother feels really powerful give you a sense of confidence like the Corded Flex XCE does.
