I think the one unforgivable thing Devi did on this show was cause Nalini and Dr. Jackson to break up. Nalini was finally recovering from her late husband's death and finding happiness, starting her long journey on the road of accepting the past. I can definitely understand Devi's grief over her father and not wanting Nalini to replace him, but the problem is Nalini wasn't doing anything like that -- she had simply found someone who was right for her and understood her pain.
But Nalini is such a great mother, that she is giving up what she wants for her daughter and putting her family first. Perfect mom goals. The Vishwakumars didn't deserve such a tragedy to happen(over here I'm talking about Devi's father's death).
Ig that was the whole point of bringing in that romance in Nalini's life on the show, that just bc she is tough and takes upon all the responsibility of her home like a champ, she still is a person who lost their life partner and yearned for someone to lean on. But even though she has started developing romantic feelings for someone again, as soon as she feels that it might endanger what she has with her daughter, she doesn't flinch before getting whatever might cause Devi to become distant out of the way. This portrays that for a mother, family is and will always be the priority. She wouldn't hesitate to do anything that needs to be done to keep her family smiling, even if it comes at the cost of her own.
POV Devi: although she wants to understand serious relationships (herself wishing to be in one with Ben then later getting with Paxton), she fears that her father might be forgotten, and she loses it. Also, if you remember, in the scene when Devi was spying on the doctor and her mother, her phone falls into the water. Her father's voice note seems to be lost forever to her... that, along with the added danger of another man replacing her dad, led her to go bonkers and lash out at her mother. She doesn't ask her mother to go back to the Doc because she is still a child and needs time to adjust to the idea of watching her mother with someone else, whosoever it may be.
i think poorna’s acting got even better in season 2.. there were many laugh out loud moments when she was telling off devi
