  • The "old school" eastern forehand is appearing once again on tour! It is a easy forehand to start with and it develops nicely into more modern forehand variations like Tsitsipas and federer. It also minimizes the risk for a new player to develop an extreme western forehand which can cause problems down the road. Here are some tips to get you started in the right direction. I hope this helps!

    Thanks for the great breakdown and progression you have in this video. Very easy to follow. I was letting my wrist bend too much and I think that was how hurt it recently. You reminded me that wrist stability is not a bad thing. Your camera angle also highlights the spacing you're making with your elbow very well. Looking forward to the semi-western video!

    Keeping the wrist laid back throughout the shot is a very helpful tip, too many times I turned the wrist right at contact causing a mishit. Thanks! I’m trying to practice correcting this

    This is the way EVERY rec player should hit their forehand. A modest roll. Forget heavy topspin. Your doubles partner will thankyou for keeping the ball in play. You wanna go heavy topspin? Then you're gonna have to hire your lawncare cuz you'll be busy doing groundstroke drills.

    Great tip, mate. Very useful for I'm switching now from the semiwestern FH to the eastern one because of the wrist pain.
    Just one minor detail. Isn't better to apply more closed stance, at least semiopen to ensure better weight transfer? Your extreme openstance hardly rhymes with the Eastern FH grip, I'm afraid. Still it's just my subjective idea on the basis from what I learnt but still didn't fully apply myself.
    Anyhow, thank you for your input and all the best to you.

    simple and effective. Thats how players in the 1960s and 1970s hit their forehand. 👍👍

    Eastern Forehand is great on the elbow and shoulder…and against most folks flat and sharp will be effective

    Awesome video, loved it. I am trying to transition away from the wristy, window washer type forehand because it’s just too hard to be consistent. With my current training trying the extreme-eastern forehand I always have a problem with the ball launching way too high and landing long. Any tips on how to fix that problem with the more conservative grip?

      you should try the classic forehand. It is the most consistent and more margin for error. The modern forehand is too hard to play at a consistent level (semi western grip). It is also not good for short balls. Most intermediate players hit short balls into the net.

      @@RocketMan-zc9jr well, that seems to be my problem actually. The more conservative grip is where I find it challenging to prevent the ball from launching long. I am a good enough player, 4.5 USTA, but my consistency on the forehand side is much weaker than my backhand because of this grip.

    • @ugaais
      @ugaais 10 месяцев назад

      You can’t take your right hand and grip at 12 o’clock and your left hand gripes the at 9 o’clock(which is the eastern grip for the left hand step into shot with straight arms and finish like your paddling so down lower on back swing and up and finish over your right shoulder
