Making a Leather Utility Zip Pouch (WITH PATTERN!)
In this simple project we made a zipper utility pouch from some scrap leather. These zipper utility pouches are a great use of larger pieces of scrap leather - maybe they have marks on them, or brands, or a big section of pock marks. You can make these zippered leather utility pouches for your shop out of those big pieces of leather and still get a lot of good use out of it!
For these zipper utility pouches we use about 4-5oz leather. We hand stitch the zipper into the leather pouch, and then also hand stitch the pouch shut with a saddle stitch and poly threads. In this leather pouch design we like to include a grommet which can be used to hang the pouches on hooks or you can make a lanyard or wristlet to make the pouch into a clutch or small purse! The smaller size included in the pattern, when made out of clean leather, makes for a great zippered wallet as well!
I found your video very meditative, with no talking and no music. Loved it! Thank you.
I wanna give a big thanks to you and stock and barrel for getting me into this amazing craft
Exact same thing here :)
dupuis.leather.craft Mascon Leather is another really good one.
That Weaver Leather tight corner edger is amazing I have one and love it.
agreed! We use them for everything to take the tiniest bit of edge off, but they're hard to beat in tight corners
Love this. You are truly an artist.
É na simplicidade que encontramos as grandes belezas! Perfeito! Obrigada por compartilhar este momento...
Early week video bonus! Woohoo!
I got into this craft after watching your videos. Big fan of your work. Waiting to see some videos on stachels and bags
Thanks for the idea. Your work is as magnificent as ever. simple and elegant.
Was looking for something just like this. Awesome video
Yeah!!! A new video from one of my favorite channels! 😁 so happy. Really like your take on this. That mink oil really brings out the beauty of that leather. Just purchased the pattern. 🤗😁🤗
Awesome! Enjoy it, there's a couple sizes in there to make!
That's great! Its given me an idea for a variation. 😊👍
I'm was pretty unsure about how to attach zips until now. Thank you.
so glad to hear! I bet it's going to come out super nice :)
One can hope! 🥴
And certainly try my best!
Love your videos
Im so jealous of that lighter holder after my first attempt at one
keep giving it a go! You'll get it just right sooner than later :)
That’s fantastic
Nice work, well done 👍🏻👍🏻
Great Video, I've watched thousands of these and your the first to actually show that you can hand sew a Zipper in...Thank you for that...also, can I ask what and where can I get a sharpener like you used on your Beveler / Edger???
That's from Weaver! Thanks so much, I would also suggest trying basting tape to stick in the zipper - we used glue because we were out of tape, but the tape makes zipper instillation super, super simple.
@@Corter Thank you, Just ordered the Strop Board Sharpener and a new Edge Beveler. from Weaver,, Thanks very much for your help.....Bill
awesome! it's a really great little piece of kit, I used to use little wood dowels to sharpen and it's so so much better
Beautiful I love your video.
Awesome video, you inspire me so much. Keep up the superb work.
Beautiful I love your video.
Nice looking pouch! And thanks for not gouging people on the price for your patterns. You charge a fair price for them IMO.
Excellent lm respect you CORTER
Really simple project for beginners like me. How I wish I could purchase those items used for leather work. I need to see if my local store carries the item I need. :)
You can find a lot of things on Amazon.
Great stuff!
good!
Another cool video, thank you!
I really like your leather pouch. I would like to try to make one. Please tell me what size punch and what size grommets you use. I am a beginner and on the website for the tools you use they list all different sizes. Thank you for your help.
Very good work 👏 and explanation. What thickness of leather did you use ?? Thank you...
So I have a question. I made this clutch and the zipper worked fine when I first sewed it in but then when I sewed the sides together it somehow made my zipper wonky and not work. I don’t know how I could avoid doing that. Any thoughts?
Sorry for the late comment. I love this pouch as I’ve been looking for an idea for holding my punches. Can I ask, please, what kind of leather did you use?
Este me gusto mucho. Mas útil yea
Fantastic! Please tell me, what thickness of thread are You using?
can you make one of those gun holster's that you would normlly see in the old west?
Muy muy buena
Do you have an online shop where you sell your products? I really need some of the stuff u make pls
Thank you Eric. Now I have a question i hope you can answer. Is it possible you can make a pattern for some of your earlier work like mainly the market tote bag with flat wide lace going down the sides and the lighter holder? 😊
We'll have a whole pack of lighter cases coming out soon! The tote bag is a bit more difficult - we might do that one down the road for sure, but we've got a few other bags we plan to do patterns for first
A very simple and fanthastic piece. I'm gonba make a double layered for my equipments (corter corner and "cinzel" ). I would like to know what you are using under the leather for stitching and cutting.
Glamourous pieces.
We just use a self-healing cutting mat to cut most of the time (though I forget and cut straight on the wood a lot...this is a good way to go through blades fast!). For punching we use a Novolene Chopping Block from Weaver on top of granite
@@Corter i'm thankfull for your ready answer. I'm from Brazil and we have little stores of leather and products correlats. Do you have any store or at yours this item to sell ??
I do know a lot of suppliers here in the US and in Europe ship worldwide so it would be worth contacting them to ask! We got our cutting blocks from Weaver long before they sponsored our videos the past few months, they might be able to help you get them in Brazil as well!
Amazing as always 📢💯... But I have a question about burnishing was not shown, was it missed or not required for this kind of zipper pouch
We burnished all the edges, just didn't really show it in this one - we don't always show every single step, it can make the movies drag on a bit too long :) but you can burnish/wax/paint/dye/leave edges plain on any of our projects, it's your choice!
@@Corter thanks for the clarification... Hope to see plenty of your creative videos more often for us to have more better skills. Personally I've improved in terms of tidy up my work by watching your videos and way to go for perfection. Bravo Corter thumpsup 👍
So good to hear! We have a bunch of shorter projects like this one that aren't quite up to the length of our normal Thursday videos so we'll be doing two videos a week -- Monday small project/Thursday big project -- through March, hope that's enough for now :)
Can you tell me how'd you sharpening your edge beveler? I tried to used a sand paper and a wire but its damaged my beveler or maybe i did it wrong?
We use Weaver Leather's strop board, there's a link to it in the description :)
Hello! My name is Rais, I'm from Russia. I want to ask you a question: where do you order the copper buttons with the logo of your workshop? I can not find production in Russia. Thanks for your reply!
TOP
Can you share your edger strop set up for the Weaver 0 please?
Yep! It's the Weaver Strop Board :)
What mm stitching prongs are those? I like the slightly longer stitches ;)
they're 5mm!
I was thinking about making my daughter a pencil holder with the large bag be long enough for that. Thank you in advance
the large one is about 6.5" long, so it's a bit short for pencils but you can easily elongate the pattern by cutting it in half and adding a couple inches from a second copy of the printout :) you'd want it to be about 8-8.5" long for pencils
@@Corter yeah that would work Thanks for the quick reply, I will definitely be purchasing that pattern.
Missing the logo
Niceeee
What were you using to sharpen your edger? Thx.
It's Weaver's strop board, you can grab one here: www.weaverleathersupply.com/catalog/item-detail/65-2935/master-tools-weaver/pr_8708
Thanks. Also, I cheated and had an acrylic template made from your pattern. Every member of my family is getting one of these.
@@Corter
Measurements pretty please.
they're in the pattern!
can you offer us your patterns ?
yes it's the second link in the description
What exactly does the mink oil do?
it moisturizes and protects the natural veg tan, also darkens it a bit
Someone once told me it’s good for waterproofing. It’s not.
