I can not comment on the TV show, only on Jeanette. When I was young John and Jeanette were close family friends to my Mom and Dad. Every time they showed up, Jeanette would take time to make me (or any other child) feel special. I have always appreciated the Christmas Subscriptions to National Geographic. (some issues I probably still have, since this was near 60 years ago. Such a class act(ress).

Dave, thank you, thank you, thank you for this video! I do remember “Dirty Sally” and I remember watching it with my parents back in 1974, but every time I’ve brought it up to people, every time I asked people my age, “Don’t you remember that spin-off from ‘Gunsmoke’ um...’Dirty...something....” I’d get blank stares and shaking heads. I thought maybe I was going crazy, and my cursory searching on Google often brought up nothing (sort of like my memories of Hanna Barbera’s “Roman Holidays” which others claimed they didn’t remember, saying that I was making it up). So now I get to relive my childhood memories (sort of) confident in the knowledge that “Dirty Sally” really did exist! Thank you again!!!!

I didn't know there was a "Dirty Sally" TV series either !
I was in college in 1974, so I didn't watch very much TV back then.
The Gunsmoke episodes with Dirty Sally are some of my favorites.
I was watching the episode "One for the Road" today, and wondered what happened to Sally's false teeth that she got in the "Pike Part 2" episode, so I had to check to see which ones came first... Pike was 1971, and One for the Road was 1972.
Then I found out about the "Dirty Sally" series, and sadly cannot find any DVD or streaming/online videos to watch... what a shame !
Now I wonder if she had her false teeth in her TV series... probably not... they made her look too good !

I do indeed remember this show. Sally was definitely a popular character on Gunsmoke, and until now I had forgotten about that spinoff.
You are right, the first two episodes did very well, but I personally think that you could only do so much with it. Gunsmoke was kind of a family and had more than one character to play off of. Even though Matt was the main character, they still had Chester, Festus, Doc Adams, Kitty Russell and others that would focus on stories. I think the problem is you can only do so much with Dirty Sally and Cyrus Pike.
Now I have to admit you took me off guard when you said Jeanette Nolan played Sally. I had no idea. I had seen her before in other roles in that time, but if you told me that she was old Sally from Gunsmoke and Dirty Sally, that would have been unbelievable to me. That's amazing transfer. Because she had played the opposite in other roles, always the proper lady. WOW!!!
Also, another piece of info about Dack Rambo, aka Cyrus Pike and Jack Ewing on Dallas, had a twin brother who was actor Dick Rambo.

Great video, Dave! Yeah, I never seen an episode of this spinoff from Gunsmoke. Spinoffs were much more common in the 70s and 80s. Plus, spinoffs are a tricky proposition even under the best of circumstances, let alone using a fringe character only having a small association with the main chatacters.

I don't remember the show vividly, but the name has stuck with me throughout my life. I recall that the show was really good, and definitely underrated. At the time, I was in 4-H. I remember the show and watched it with my mom. A few years before she left this world she asked to find it so she could watch it again. I did not know it was a spin off of Gun smoke. And we could not remember the name. I asked hundreds of people about the show and Nobody knew what I was talking about. This show had to be good for me to remember it, that was a long time ago. I remember the donkey wearing an old hat with holes cut out for it's ears. I believe the guy was a doctor. There was an episode where they helped a bunch of orphan children, I think it was at Christmas. IF I got the chance to watch it again I would, just to see if it was as good as I remember. When I was small my grandfather would watch, Lost in Space with me. Back then I loved the show. Now it just gets on my nerves. Just once I would like to have seen someone, anyone beat the crap out of Dr. Smith. This is why I did not say, Dirty Sally was a great show. It may be, I remember it but need to watch it again to be sure.
