@@katiewray2525 No I did not. I traded with the person who did, back in the day I traded videotapes and later DVD's all around the world. Now many of the people I traded with have died or lost their tapes, so it's time for me to share as much as I can before I get my wings 😆 I'm glad you enjoy the channel, thousands more videos to come.
@@Strimbles Admittedly.. this was NOT one of their most stellar performances lol!! Try out listening to their studio recordings, you can find them on YT, you might end up loving them!
I was 21 when Tim was released. Bought it on a whim. Saved me from a life of new wave and hair bands. Changed my life. Most people don’t get it. Saw them at the Ritz in NYC, right up at the stage. Last full gig with Bob. Next night Paul stage dove and broke his wrist. Saw them again later at the Chance in Poughkeepsie and stone pony, a foot in front of Tommy. Greatest band ever. Such a reflection of life, in all its glory, imperfection and frailty. This band always and forever. Once you get it you get it for life and never let go.
Saw them 3x in Chicago. Fast forward to 2020 work had an outdoor courtyard party where a band was playing mats covers on a stage, I was singing along so unbelievably happy and they mentioned I was the only guy who knew all the words! The band that never was...
Great Scot, what a great band! My favorite for years. Got to drink with him once after a 3 set solo show and got to see the first Mats show after 20 years! Love some Mats
The Mats!!! I grew up, one state south of Minnesota.... these (and Husker Du, anoher MPLS band) were my first real music loves back when I was a teenage girl in the 80s! You are AMAZING STV!!!! Had all their albums on vinyl 😁👍Thanks for sharing yet another FANTASTIC music memory with usl!!!
Thanks for watching and commenting Allison. A book 🙂 well you never know, my life has had a lot of twists and turns, so a book would just be one more odd thing, in a series of odd things 😆
impressive footage - rough as anything of course - but considering the 'circumstances' the operator has managed to keep the camera very well controlled - plus the actual lighting of the concert seems to be very poor - hardly ever see the drummer - also the sound isn't too bad either - tenakoe - an amazing band and a magic performance and well worthy of documentation.
To young (39 lol) to see the original Mats. But I did see them twice on the reunion tour in Atlanta and the hometown show in St Paul had tickets for the Pittsburgh show that ended up canceled. Even though I'm from Minneapolis I hate to admit the Atlanta show was shorter and still was better.. It felt like they wanted to fuck up the hometown show.. Still the best band ever.
Ive seen this before, but I never looked at the whole thing (maybe clips) but Ive never seen enough to see that it was some of these songs that would become Dont tell a soul which is a superrecord! One of their best! It's so cool and interesting to see Paul (sure inebriated but still together) saying F# in the bridge/or whatucallit in They're Blind :) Seems like this was some time before they got into the studio to record but had gone thru the songs in rehearshals and stuff, plus Slim was pretty new in the band I think? Love it STV
@@condor7810 oh shit, thanks for the up mate. well I guess they were just inebriated then hehe. Love that Record even though most hardcore fans hate it.

The one and only time I got to see them live was on that Petty tour in Lake Compounce, CT. I was probably the only one there to see the Mats and not Petty (not that I dislike Petty). Man, the Mats did not want to be there, and acted and played like it. They were supposed to be past their ramshackle performances, but unfortunately, it was as ramshackle as it could get. Sadly they never played nearby earlier in their career and this tour was pretty much the end, but at least I did get to see them.

The greatest American rock n roll band, undeniably. 🇺🇸👊🏻
Hahaha they're not that good!
I'd say the Grateful Dead, but The Mats would be up there for sure.....

Indeed! 💕💕💕💕👍👍👍😁

I saw them on this tour and the show fucking rocked. Best band ever.
Wow. Brilliant. Thank you!
So epic
The scream starting Bastards of Young made it all worth it.

gd i wish this band didn't piss away every shot they got.
You obviously don't understand them even slightly. They never wanted to be REM.
@@ericmalone3213 yeah, I can't even name 3 songs. I thought this was a bootleg of Keanu Reeves's football movie.
@@solarpoweredtree Three songs what? Oh, you're saying you're clueless. Tho you do know that Keanu is the Hawaiian word for sale-item bologna, yes?
great footage man. saw them on this tour.

1989? wtf camera did you have? and is the sound direct from the board? amazing for the time.

mainmate: Don't Tell a Soul was released in Feb. 1989. This show was in Aug. 1989 a full six months after Don't Tell a Soul was released.

The band that sabotaged their own career. The best and worst concerts I have ever seen.
An era when the twin cities was cool, chill, refreshing,,not like the turd state it in now,,Real Music Matters
