General rule of thumb......NEVER sell to family or friends...........or neighbours 😂
Anyone you remotely know. You never hear the end of it. Amazing how ongoing maintence becomes a ‘lemon car’. It’s our industry. Everything fooked just because you have to run it and spend.
@@zzhughesd yep
I sold my car to my wife and she divorced me, bargain!
@@robblack7560 well that's 1 way to think 😂
I agree.
I’ve been loving watching your videos for ages James and didn’t realise you liked Morgans. I’ve worked there for 20+ years so if you’re ever up my neck of the woods I’d be more than happy to show you around the factory
And a beautiful neck of the woods it is too
We flew from Northern Ireland to visit the factory. Skills employed there were amazing and every single person worked so hard and with passion. You boys and girls just "got on with the job" with your individual skills. Excellent.
Always happy to support a startup business. Just ordered some room sprays 👍 😊
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome
I’m not seeing the link. Can you give me a copy of the link. I like using small companies. They’re making money to pay their bills. Using the big companies just puts a litre of fuel in the boss’s private jet.
When I was a coach driver, top tip I gave out was buy a bottle of softener, and pop half of it in a spray bottle and top with water, shake to mix and then spray the coach! Always left it smelling good and even had a customer say it was so clean and nice, that it reminded him of a new Ferrari smell!!!
We visited the Morgan factory, gob-smacked, the skills employed were incredible.
😂White paint overspray onto the tyre . The mark of a true professional .
But he's not a professional paint sprayer is he🙄🤣
It shows it's been looked after like oily fingerprints on the headlining
Ooooh Morris Ital. 😎
A chops video is always entertaining. Great stuff James.
Oh a video like Flying Wheels Flipping $400 to a Ferrari challenge.
"£1,500 Moving Metal to a Morgan" has a good ring to it James 😂
Has to be MOVING Metal, and not that Shifting Metal.... Can't associate with a channel thats gonna lose all the Auction Car Challenges 😉😂😜
I loved the tour of the Morgan factory. At the end you get plenty of time to ask questions. Worth every penny.
The rules of the game are simple.
1) Once you sell the first vehicle those are the only funds you can use.
2) You can never borow money for whatever reason, you can only use your fund pot.
3) You may buy any vehicle. (cars, vans, boat, bike)
4) You can buy a category vehicle and either fix or sell on.
5) You can sell a vehicle as trade to the trade or to a customer (no warranty).
6) You must achieve the objective of getting a morgan within three years.
7) the vehicle can be sold as a seperate business and not within chops garage. You may advertise it as a chops garage challenge. But thjs project may then not incur VAT unless you sell more vehicles than the VAT threshold in one year.
Well as you took the time to write this I accept! All but the vat, as a sole trader I cannot avoid it on any sale unfortunately
@@ChopsGarage fantastic you can mention the rules on your next video. looking forwards to this challenge.
Back in the day I traded up from a 100 quid lada, to granada p ex, rover sd1 pex, ended up at 3.5k which was pretty good in the 90s.
A mate insisted I sell him my car when I bought a new one. So I said he could have it for £1500, he said he would pay me in a few months. It took him over a year to pay me back and even then I had to take the car back and sell it as spares or repair to recover the last bit of money as he had blown the engine on it 🤷♂️
The following year he asked if I could lend him 3-4k to buy another car……….. I told him to go see his bank manager 🤣
I would of told him to go fuck himself after taking a year to pay you back lmao
Yep no payment plans EVER
No wonder you are so successful in business with customer service levels so above and beyond - be proud. Look forward to the ‘trade up to a Morgan’ adventure over the coming months …..
Cheers!
You have the patience of an angel. Handbrake shoes....just leave in gear if you live on the slope or turn front wheel toward kerb 🤔
Lol yes that works too tbf
SOLD SOLD SOLD !!! Goo on James ! ❤
Chops, you're usually really good with paint but the i20 seems to need another coat of white the grey undercoat looks like it's showing through, at least that's what seems to be showing on camera. Top content as usual!
Hey James, never commented before, been watching you for a while and I am a subscriber. I'm trying to do exactly the same thing. but with a £1000 starting point. I have just bought my first car. It's a 2006 Polo. I bought it at BCA a week ago. I'm only buying cars with a service history and I am being very very careful with what I am buying, checking the MOT History, Doing a vehicle score report etc and then sitting on the live auction with a short list trying to buy them. The Polo was the first one. It had a few parts missing like the headrests in the back were missing along with the parcel shelf and the bonnet had a nasty big rust spot on it. I also needed a wing mirror However I knew that my local scrap yard had a 2006 polo in exactly the same colour before bidding started and I got all the parts I needed including the bonnet for £120. (That's why the car was in my saved list on BCA)The car had a full-service history and was otherwise pretty good. so I got it at a hammer price of £350. I think that rust spot and missing headrest put people off. I've got a friend who is a mechanic and he is doing the work. I spent £350 on a new coil, a service and a few silly bits and I put it into the MOT today where it passed with no advisories. I bought the car for £580 including fees so my total costs to date including the MOT are £1100. £100 more that I had to add to the starting budget. I've looked on Auto Trader and similar age and miles is going for £2200 to £2400 I am going to try to sell the polo for £1995 to hopefully get a quick sale. So profit £895. I will then take my £1995 (Keeping the extra £100 I had to put it) And try to do the same thing but with a car that has a hammer price including fees of around £1300 leaving £600 to fix anything needed. I want to trade up to about £25K total. I want a newish van. I want to be able to add warranty with warrantywise to my cars. Going to stick to small 1st time driver-type cars if I can and want to give them the confidence of the warranty with a new MOT and a full service as the main points other than a cracking small car for less than £3K. As my pot grows I will probably just buy more than one at a time rather than going over the £3k selling price, but I might go a little higher, I'll see what my local market wants. Anyway, Just thought I would tell you what I'm up to and that it's because of watching you and some of your collaborators that I have decided I can do this. I'm going to try to buy a recovery trailer as soon as I can as well, public transport and possible issues getting home is what is driving this thought. good luck with your challenge, I'll be watching and doing the same thing. Martyn
Great stuff Martyn best of luck
Love your videos, entered the raffle to help your charity, all the best!
Awesome! Thank you!
Glad to see the coupe has gone to an Italian car Mechanic 😀
I've sold my neighbour a megane scenic, we're on the 2nd wiper motor now at 450 a pop....
450?christ, at that price its probably worth employing someone to sit in the passenger seat with a squeegee on a long stick to do it manually 😂
@@fools_opinions yes bud, good idea
Sold astra to exs cousin .. constant chipping on price when agreed n egr valve aux belts tyres oil service etc too draw line at new mot as had 10 month onit .. private sale .. started after 3 month saying wiper blades need changing !! Few days after his house caught fire n wrote the car off too ... was so glad
Lol , now imagine 20 sales like that a month
Better be quick for a morgan. They laid around 15 staff off last month.
Bummer
Well done for shout out to small business, it is tough being small business.
Hey, little Suzuki Swift Sport, i have a 2010 White one that i bought last year. They like little Go Karts 😊
I'd love a Morgan. Like you James, I wouldn't necessarily want a big engined one. Even older 1960's Morgans hold their value very well if they're looked after, with service history. There are many variations too, as Morgan build to individual specifications and customer requirements.... And as you mentioned, depreciation on a Morgan is normally very low......
Try all fan connections, try o2 sensor, unfortunately could be ecu, tbh I find pugs terrible for ecu faults, look at live data for voltage at the 02 sensor, check connection to o2 sensor.
Maybe put your first few up for raffle, to get a good start??
Quick tip for handbrake application. Press firmly on footbrake while applying hand brake firmly. This “sets” the rear shoes!
Yes I was told this by mechanic too
@@ChopsGarage I spent 22 years of a 44 year driver training career, teaching disabled drivers of all categories. Many of them had to learn specific “tricks of the trade” to overcome problems that an able bodied driver didn’t realise existed!
Morgan 4/4 Sport is the best car I’ve ever had. Sold it last year and I really miss it. It never depreciated in over 6 years I should of kept it.
I might join u on the trading up as I’ve recently been made redundant, I’ve got another job but not quite full time hours so need additional income, think I’m going to buy at 3-5k to start, I’m thinking one of the Hyundai….anyone any ideas what I should go for first?
I just buy and flip salvage Fiat 500s and do around £1000 profit per car
Im surprised the peugeots fault wasnt an injector as my grandad has a 2014 Berlingo thats had to have 2 injectors replaced and that normally makes it go into limp mode. Its only just came out the garage today to have one of the injectors replaced
Commented Donkey’s years back James, you’re a Good Man! Great to see the Leopard ………
Don’t lose the Faith!
For the ‘trade-up’, I would be tempted to trawl the scrappers - those who don’t know give perfectly good carts away to the crusher and you might find a few ‘hidden Gems’?!
Just a thought

Using a scotchbrite to put on stone chip works well.
Sold a mint X Type to a good friend, and by some miracle within a month, the clutch aux belt and turbo all failed!!! He was not happy and soured our friendship, but I had no problems in 50k!

alot of the topdon stuff allows you to do tests on the fans windows central locking etc.
you was getting a Morgan with the VW up.
Few people called me out on that, shall I use that as starting funds?
Cat n car 's, show their value and your skils, just minimal repairs. Keep it up 👍
One rule. No friends family. One rule. No friends family. One rule. No friends family. I bark no. Then smile. When asked. It's a no. No friends no family.
£1500 is not much for a car these days so I would look for something like a ford focus or c max . These are cheap to repair/prep also reliable as long as you stay away from the dirty smelly diesel's 😉.
Rust on the sills/subframes on older fords is the most common problem but if you look for a clean one underneath you should be able to turn one around and make some cash towards your Morgan 😉.
If that tepees diesel could be dpf, sensor giving wrong readings due to blockage and fan coming on as its trying to re gen.
Started watching these videos when I was looking for a used car, but I can't stop watching them they're addictive! I just had my new car serviced and the mechanics noted one of the coil springs had been fitted upside down. This explains the dull thud I've been hearing when steering hard over. This is obviously not wear and tear so presumably I'm in my rights to get it sorted under warranty?
(According to the invoices with the car, the coils were fitted in 2022).
Appreciate that many thanks!
How long have you had it? Should only take 5 mins to turn it round if it's standard style rear beam. But looks like fault as sale so I'd say yes
@@ChopsGarage Bought it three weeks ago
@@ChopsGarage and many thanks
Morgan plus 8 mate would be nice.
I thought you started with that cat N VW Up which got forgotten.
Yes been called out by few on this so I'll make the starting point that
Part 2 😉
Panda The Sequel
I bought 2 cheapies last nite bud at auction, an old auto s80 volvo, 300 quid and a 59 picanto, 50k miles, one owner, 850 bid, so cheap cars are still about, actually got a one owner megga miles 16 plate corsa with full main dealer history for 1750 bid the other week, maybe a trip oop north again mate, prices have softened a bit over here anyway.
Maybe they didn't adjust the rear shoes OK when it had new handbrake cables, usually adjusters don't work and you need to manually click them up, if shoes were OK a quick sand down and adjust usually does it, unfortunately another example of a half hour job in house that would have saved you loads mate,
I think the parts cannon was fully loaded but had 2 other cars to get out same day and they needed car back
@@ChopsGarage yes bud on rear brakes you've got to set the shoes a few times, if there's a lip on the drum grind it off or you'll not be able to adjust the shoes correctly, you virtually never ever need drums tbh, I bet 70%on these cars is brakes, discs, pads, seized calipers, tbh I've done 2 at least this week.
Great video & transparency as always James. I ordered some sprays from your friend's wife to give her business a kick start

@@roystonvehicles9129 fitting fuel reg to MGB mx5 and keeps ruining few mins and cutting out at 40psi. Added the return regulator back into to things as well as the new fuel in reg now idles but badly and cuts out after few revs.
@@ChopsGarage with a supercharger bud I think you'll be getting pressurised air even a tick over, I think the thing is is to put 2 throttle boddies to help tickover, I'd have gone turbo route bud as its easier to get running right, on factory type superchargers they have a clutch to disengage the blower, if you've got an obd socket on the car (?) you could put it on live data fuel trim, you want like single figures on that and try adjusting fuel pressure to trim it up, or a mixture tester, like mots for mixture, you want to be running about say 1.5%co on that, another idea is the old school colour tune plug that goes in a plug hole, I don't know if they still sell em, or take a plug out to see if its black, rich or white, lean.
@@roystonvehicles9129 yeah strange this is ran fine when just stuck charger on with all standard fuel set up. Only after I fitted the regulator had issue and now have issue back on standard too.

For a man to have seven personal cars taking up storage and road tax you should have a bit of a sale keep 1-2 and more money for your business more stock for sale. Please don't take this wrong just an observation, I used to have 3 Austin A35s and a family car.
I had similar issue as you're having with the partner on a citroen go wrong and it turned out to be the throttle body .....
Can be injectors too as my grandad has a 2014 berlingo and the injectors were the cause. It's just came out the garage today for a new injector. It's happened 3 times in his car

James, you're a big guy, can you still fit into a Morgan? My friend got one after being on the waiting list for years and years, and was devastated as he was to big for it! atb snack.
Don't forget a new ecu for the mx/mgb to adjust timing and fueling or you'll blow it up mate, you can't just chuck a supercharger on.
You can get away with it with a fuel pressure regulator on the MX5 but wont get full horsies

the only perk friends and family get is you jsut save the best condition cars for them, if they ask you to be on the lookout. sell them the most reliable models that suits their needs. dont discount money because it means youre taking money out of your pockets anf giving it to them.

If it a 1.2 3 cylinder tepee could be miss fire causing to run rich and throwing up o2 code, when the o2 sensor is actually reading correctly, as someones said causes fan to come on, I'd check live data for fuel trim (mixture)
No 1.6
@@ChopsGarage 1.6 diesel then bud, not be o2 sensor then, I'd go for dpf blocked and sensor is showing fault, it's easy one those to sort, I did one the other day for a customer, take out top o2 sensor on top of cat, pour say a litre of wynns dpf cleaner in, about 40 squid a gallon, let it pickle, start it with the sensor out to save back pressure, run for a few mins, replace sensor, go for a fast run, they'll be loads of smoke, but that will clear it right out, as you know that 1.6hdi are bad for turbos due to blocked oil feed but it would usually blue smoke, your scanner might show %off ash in the dpf as well, diesels eh mate, can't live with em, can't live with em(!)
