Original press release:
We know her as the eccentric Irish singer of the trip hop formation Moloko from the English city of Sheffield. But after having been on the road with this successful band for ten years, Róisín Murphy decided to have a go at a solo career. To assist her she chose Matthew Herbert, the British DJ, producer and sound artist who had already remixed a couple of Moloko tracks. This resulted in Ruby Blue - not your every day collage of strange noises, put together like real songs, with on top of it Murphy’s remarkable voice. During the recording sessions she wondered where all this would lead to. Herbert’s special approach, like the on the spot creation of sounds, at first created an estranging atmosphere. But later on she discovered the unparalleled freedom in the music which made her voice more flexible than ever, which resulted in this special album that is being praised by fans of electronic music.
