  • In this video we talk about replacing the bungees on the an AFrame style camper. The process is rather simple as long as you have the correct tools, which we will cover.
    We also discuss or down falls about the weather stripping aka roof rubber replacement. Which is in an upcoming video. Stay tuned for that!

    Thank you for posting this video! Yours was literally the only online resource I could find that was a Forest River Rockwood vs. an Aliner, and the Aliner's bungee attachments are slightly different. For those of your viewers that might be asking how long the bungee needs to be, we cut ours to 53 inches, and it looks as close to perfect as we can get. We just replaced one side of ours last night, and will see how it compares tension-wise to the other side over the next few months. Because we were feeling pretty confident about the length matching the damaged one that we had removed, we ended up attaching the cut end bracket first, and then doing the loop end bracket last. Worked out pretty well. Thanks for posting your tips in this video, fingers crossed our repair works out and lasts for a long time. :)

      Thanks so much for the comment. Just to let you know our bungees have been doing great since the change out. Glad that you had a successful repair. Happy Camping to you and we will talk with you later.

    Hi there, thanks for the informative video! Could you tell me how you removed the rest of the rivet on the lower bracket after you drilled the head off? On our camper, the backside of the rivets on that bracket are not exposed, and I'm unsure how to get them out. Thanks!

      The back side of the rivet should just fall in. There will be enough room o put a new rivet in to the same hole. They are aluminum rivets. Feel free to email us with pictures if need be to aframe@aframedaydream.com.

    I can't believe I just found your videos. We've had our 212 for 5 yrs and just sold it as we are getting a Geo Pro. Getting older and are ready to have a bathroom and needing to stop crawling over each to get up in the middle of the night. Anyway, I promised the buyers I would put on new bungees before they pick up this Sat. Your video is great but am I missing one where you talk about the tension of the bungees & attaching the top section? Both of mine are busted so I can't tell the approximate tension and I assume replacing the top is similar to the bottom. (This 212 did us very well for 5 summers and we are going to miss it) Thanks again!

      Mark - Thanks for reaching out to us! Glad to hear that you found a buyer and your upgrade. That is correct. I really did not talk about tension as I just needed to match the other side as it was somewhat ok, so it was a matter of adjusting a few times until the new bungee was just a little tighter than the other side. What I’d do in your case, is to put the bungee on the back roof. Sealing and riveting of course so that when you put the cords through the top roof holes, you can make adjustments at the top. I would prop the upper and lower roof with a box or a milk crate like did in the video. I would also use some blue painter tape, tape around the hole so you don’t scratch the paint on the aluminum, and use a pair of locking pliers (might also want to wrap them with a small towel so you don’t scratch the roof) to pinch the cord together. Or some means of clamping the two ends on each side. Give it a test out, if you feel that it needs adjusting, reposition your clamps and test until you feel comfortable with it going up and down. If I was closer to you, I would be more than happy to stop and help, but the best I can give you is what I would do in the case you are in with 2 bad bungees. Also, one tip that I did not show in the video, was at the top where the cords come out the holes, I crossed the bungee cords between the 2 rivets to give it more pressure to ensure the ends did not slip. -Ed

    OK I will be replacing my bungee cord on my trailer. When are you going to show how to replace the weather stripping aka roof rubber replacement?
    Looking forward to that

    I have a 2014 Rockwood Hardsided Forest River A frame camper. My question is: are the bungee replacements universal on all the years made? Thanks from Montana

    • @aframedaydream
      @aframedaydream  2 года назад

      They seem to be about the same size, from everyone that we have talk with. Some mention that the lengths might be different in the years and the model type you have. The bungees that we purchase seem to be holding up rather good. Thanks for watch us! We have been to Montana, just not in the AFrame. Originally we are from the Salt Lake City area.

    my rivets aren't holding to the frame of the trailer. I'am using the 3/16" grip range 1/2" to 5/8" you suggested in the video. The rivets pull right out after they snap off. Looks like they are too short. Do I need longer grip range or 1/4" diameter rivets? Number 10 machine screws are too small for the holes in the frame of my "A". It has been repair once by a dealer. Do you think he made the frame holes larger? Help

      If at all possible get some flat aluminum that is not thick. Cut some squares to make a backside washer. Drill out the holes on that might need a longer rivet. That is the best. Or that the metal piece in the same area I am talking about with you to your local hardware store or lowes and see if there is a bigger river that might fit. I think personally think it was the first change out that every was done on our. Sorry to hear you having issues. But that would be the best advise we could give you.

      @@aframedaydream Thank you so much for your quick reply. Iam not giving up. Will look into getting 1/4" diameter rivets or 1/4" sheet metal screws. Iam a retired electrician so rivets are new to me. Thanks again for all of your helpful hints
