he says the song at 55:36 is called Two Lips
@@milest1732 Thanks
@@milest1732 "Tulips", perhaps...?
@@sassontomer2963 That's what I thought initially, but then I saw another video of him playing this, and it's titled two lips, but maybe the guy Kurt told the name to also didn't really know if it was two lips or tulips lol
I never really "got" Kurt Rosenwinkel til I listened in this setting. The other material I've heard is so far out for my poor ear that it just never clicked, like he was part of a magic jazz circle of knowledge that I wasn't privy to. Somehow in this solo guitar environment where he's a little more grounded to the melody and stuck on his own to communicate, so to speak, it feels a lot more consumable for me. Not that I'm just sitting here analysing it, but rather than getting stuck in figuring out what he's doing I finally feel like yeah, this is beautiful. It's like his playing is finally reaching me.
Isn’t his playing just so beautiful
I keep coming back
There are so many unbelievable clips of him that I keep returning to :
One is on here entitled 0.03.09 and it is so brining it’s insane .
There’s another one ( I believe entitled ) “untitled improvisation “ it’s him alone in what might be a radio station , a gray background , headphones and or a mic on a stand , sitting in a chair , maybe a desk - improvising what feels like an amazing Brazilian song he’s inventing on the spot. I also have returned to and listened to one entitled “ Kurt rosenwinkel masterclass “ which just has the same image of him the whole time and it’s at a workshop - just audio . He plays w a band and alone and answers questions . He plays a godin nylon string . Over an hour
Wow
Kurt is getting better and better as time goes on. Here he is playing some of the most brilliant, original guitar music I HAVE HEARD..in a long time. And that's saying a lot.
Couldn´t agree more!
INDEED!
Yeah. That's really saying a lot since he's been if not the most, one of the most both guitarists and musicians in the last 20-25 years
@today is not yesterday I assume you're talking about the Yamaha he's using (he plays a PRS later in the gig, I think...)? I hear ya, man. I can see that. I really dig it, though. I'm not sure, but I think he may be using a pedal that affects the sound of the guitar's attack, also. And possibly that's what you're not digging? Dunno...
Is he playing a Yamaha guitar? If so what model? If not what make and model? Just curious. And yes fantastic playing .
Yamaha is an amazing company, kudos for Kurt to use a "mid level" instrument (price wise) because he digs it, it sits right balance wise, and upper fret access is tops.
I hope D' Aquisto isn't too mad, just enjoy his joy.
I'd want a Steinway & Sons grand piano. So I could sell it and get a Yamaha.
Whats the model name
When Beato says check someone out, I don’t argue!
Never heard this artist before. Very nice and pure guitar sound.
Clapton introduced him on his Crossroads tours years back…
Love this effect where he's taken most of the attack out of the notes (just listened to the first song so far).
Very cool technique. Took me a second to realize what was happening to the attack
Any idea what he's using to get this sound?
It's almost like a volume swell, but he's definitely not using the volume control on his guitar.
@@benhs87 It’s actually a very complex signal chain from the Fractal Axe-Fx III that includes a series of compressors, filter, gates, amp/cab simulation, delay, reverb, the EHX POG-2 and equalization. He’s talked about it in a masterclass, which you can find some comments about in the Fractal forum in a thread named ‘Official welcome to Kurt Rosenwinkel!’. He mentions the rough signal path in an interview for Guitar Player named ‘Kurt Rosenwinkel Discusses Sound, Technique and Approaching Jazz Guitar Like a Pianist’.
@@benhs87 I recommend the pog 2 and use the attack setting. you will get 90% of the way there. if you mess around a while you'll find a similar setting to this
It's just one man and his guitar, but wait, it's Kurt Rosenwinkel!! I can't get enough!!
Musical genius of this century, hope the people in this show know how lucky they are to witness such sublime music and virtuous guitar playing.
I have never heard anyone make a guitar sing so emotionally and yet precise. It really does feel like sitting in a theatre listening to couple act out an entire play. It feels like the Kurt's guitar is talking to me and I understand and agree with everything it is talking about. Emotionally intelligent musician 🥰
Hey Steven! I agree ! Emotion and precision. I was stunned when I listened to this live concert, especially in the middle of the pandemia. Kurt is definetly one of my main inspiration!
If you ever get a chance to see him live, do it. Especially in the smallest venue you can. I've seen him three times in venues that hold 100-200 people. For lack of a better term, it's MAGIC.
Fresh sounds- this guy is truly amazing - the sounds he is pulling is like no other guitarist has done afore
Sheer brilliance and I am a fan on the first listening of this music!
Kurt plays the solo on Planet D'Rhonda off of Donald Fagen's solo album Sunken Condos, which is where I learned about this stellar guitarist
NO WAYYYYY thats sick
Simply complicated...beautiful Kurt
I'm not missing a band at all. This is how I like to hear jazz/fusion style guitar (solo). Especially when it's played like this.
Yea, I feel the same. There is such clarity of tone and he's able to play these amazing uninterrupted solos. He's a one man band and he's brilliant too.
True. He's perfect just like this.
Much as I love the interaction in small jazz groups, it was a very special treat to hear this awesome solo performance.
Wow.
At 41:50 a beautiful rendition of one of my favorite hymns... 'Jerusalem'.
Kurt solo work is so nice.
What an original creative voice! Not to mention a brilliant guitarist.
Cool....!!!!
That just absolutely blew my mind
Kurt Rosenwinkel is the best! Cheers from Brazil ;)
It's amazing how unique his sound and approach is on our shrinking planet. The guy is brilliant and never runs out of ideas!
What a beautiful tone on that lovely Yamaha guitar. And great playing, Kurt!
Thanks Kurt! Love your sound, saw you in Porto Alegre, Brasil, a long time ago, a fan since… keep pouring that heart out man ❤
fantastic musician, sound, placement, ideas .... :) thanx for this music
jaw-dropping...no words...what a talent
Im so happy this was in my recomended
So many lassies at that gig, magic. Kurt’s playing is very sensual and he really flies!
Great music for guitar ,the best
Wow I like his playing sooo much better solo than with a band. Just misses me with a band, but solo I appreciate it deeply.
It's dang near hypnotic. I've never heard anything like it.
Kurt is the master musician.
Kurt Rosenwinkel makes an important difference in Jazz guitar music. Both in sound and music content as well. Thank you for this great gig.
Yeah Man. The Guitar Messiah has arrived! :)
grandissimo musicista.
Pure and brilliant sound! Thanks Kurt and I really would like to listen to your "singing voice".....Your vocal is so amazing...........Stay safe!
Che bel suono chiaro, limpido, brillante. La sua musicalità è moderna e affascinante. Bravo.
Incredible! Thank you so much for this. Manuel from Argentina
Always on the Next Step ! Thanks for music Kurt.
Sounds like a brass instrument the way he plays lines. Unreal
Love the tone from that PRS! Very acoustic-like.
It's a Yamaha.
@@drothberg3 Hah, you obviously haven’t watched the full video..
Beautiful!!!
Kudos to whoever is mixing 🙏🏻
That right there is the magic of the AxeFX my friend. It definately helps with sound quality when you know how to use it.
Amazing
I loved every second. Thank you for posting!!
What a lovely performance. He's great solo. Amazing music.
Great music Kurt. I have to hand to you ... just man and his guitar ... no loops or backing tracks. Pure art!
Backing tracks are important into a performance.
@@metalmilicia.1589 Not this one though!
Beautiful play !!!
Brilliant sound and inspiration!
Fantastic Kurt again and again...
That was incredible. Thank you for sharing.
Love Kurt! Love the concert! Cheers from New York!
Great Player
My thing is classical guitar, but this is now my favorite guitar clip for its beauty and artistry. (and it is solo guitar ;) )
He opened with a jam! Such intensity!
Thank you Kurt. My ears were craving something fresh!!
Absolutely fresh! Guitar solo is a tricky thing, but Kurt really brings us into his universe!
This guy is genius. I only discovered him a year ago. I just wish this reverse reverb effect was used here less so that it wouldn't detract from his wonderful choice of notes.
Man i fucking love those Double cut-away YAMAHA guitars around 3:30
i think is one of the most underrated and under used best Guitar ever crafted
i love specially the Black custom version
perhaps my fav japanese Guitar aside the IBANEZ Custom Black Les paul
Good player btw
gave a King Crimson vibe here and there
That 6th string tuned an octave lower brings great warmth

Thank you for such a nice concert! Keep it on

Big Thanks to Rick Beato! :D
For what? The guys an annoying bellend
Always so good. Any video with the signature tone is 🔥🔥🔥🔥 🤩 🔥🤘

Stella by Starlight...can you spot it? ;-)
geil.
great player! Is it a guitar synth that creates the tone/ sound - string/plectrum contact hardly noticeable.
I believe it’s a combination of a hog pedal, super octave pedal, and a compressor to take away some of the note attack. So a little synth is blended in.
@@marcosbrooksjr.6106 Thanks! I do enjoy legato effect it gives.

What an ace like Joe Pass studied European Prog.
Great music, but the tone of Kurt's Guitar reminds my of low bitrate MP3.
Great voicings. Flirting whit Bossa Nova.
incredible. ... this was live in Spain last July? wow 😷
This was live in Berlin, at FRAMED Berlin

When Mr Clapton calls you a genius, obviously this cat's doin something right! His playing, to me, is a mix of Mr 335, Mike Bloomfield and a pinch of J. Geils, Peter Green and Rory Gallagher(a toned down version of the latter).
That's some very interesting reference here ! What style of guitar do you play?
@@oliastral3090 well, I don't...I just thourouly enjoy music on many different levels. But thank you for asking!!

667th like! I broke the evil lol! But seriously, what a great show, compositions, tone, technique, such a personal performance. I love it.
whats the name of the first song?
Anyone know the effect he's using on the first song ??
i'm wondering too...seems like there's a slight/short reverse delay?
Chalk me up as a weirdo, maybe .... but this performance is sort of strange to me in several ways. Rosenwinkel playing with no amp, using a gate or whatever pedal cuts off the attack on the notes he plays, sounds and ambience from the audience being completely silenced the majority of the time - it makes for a rather unworldly atmosphere. I can see how some listeners might like that, but to me, being as I am used to listening to music in a live setting and atmosphere, it makes the performance rather strange. Of course, there is the music, which is amazing, beautifully played, and which to me makes up for the slightly strange setting. (It'll be interesting to see how many comments about the coronavirus I get!)
The pedal that cuts the attack fo is a POG. He uses it on purposes because he likes a softer attack for his tone. Jonathan Kriesberg does a similar thing. It's very popular among 'modern' jazzers. I can understand why you might not like that but it's desired these days. Also, the issue with him not using an amp I can sympathise with to some degree because the sound of a great amp is unlike anything else but for convenience sake, modellers are a great alternative
@@joelkew I was wondering what the slow attack was down to. Didn't know POGs can also do that, but that pedal is there in full view.
wich pedal effects he uses? I'd like to know
Wizardry ... how the heck is he achieving these sounds - def got some holsdworth tones - but he has his own unique touch - sounds like odd tunings???
