I have a dynamark sitting in my garage right now. My dad bought it brand new in 1973. 8h.p. pull start. I bought a brand new electric start 11 h.p. engine for it in 1990 when my dad was no longer able to pull the rope. Mowed with it 15 more years. I inherited the mower and took the engine off and put it on the mower that I use now. That engine has been running 33 years and still runs perfect. Knock on wood.
Tyral, great video, thank you. We had a 1991 Dynamark rider that had a 12hp Briggs engine. It lasted for 25 years and then one of the deck hangers broke and wasn't able to weld it, so had to replace it. I replaced the second stock battery with a small automobile battery and the stock starter solenoid with a universal auto solenoid. Changed the oil every spring(good old 10W30) and lubed it every three seasons. We bought a blade for it and pushed snow with it as well(sometimes from those tough Iowa blizzards). Thanks again.

I worked part time in a rural hardware store in the late 70s. We sold those Dynamarks by the truckloads . Literally..the 8 HP 32 inch El-Cheapo was the one we sold the most of.
Awesome. My first tractor was exactly this model. I had the 42” side discharge mower deck and a snow plow for it. I was like 14 years old and mowed 8 lawns a week with it. This brings back some memories. That engine always ran so good , even in zero degrees. I also had an 8hp pull start Dynamark
I have an 18 hp that i removed from a junk Scotts and put in a Deere 116. It has a spin on oil filter and an oil cooler a Scotts exclusive .It will out live me and the next 2 owners! 46' Deck and a smooth hydro trans.A Beast!!
Most of them had splash lube. The Ones with oil filter are pressure lubed with oil pump. I had one on a ayp lawn tractor used it for 18 years on 2.5 acres. Then replace it with another briggs opposed twin . The original factory magnetron ignition was the add on unit until briggs replaced it with the integrated unit. The vertical and horizontal models used identical blocks , they interchange.
I love the B&S opposed twin. Super quiet and balanced motor. I have 1 that I took out of a crapsman 1000, put it onto a rear engine snapper (Forest Gump style) and it now lives in a more modern Deere. The only thing I don't like about it is that mice love to make a nest under the cover every time I let it sit for more than a month.
Used a Dynamark back in the mid seventies to make some extra money mowing lawns. An average lawn brought me 3 bucks, which is about 20 bucks nowadays. Had to pay for the upkeep of the mower though!
I still have a few of those (I think). (2) 11/36 and a 10/36 (maybe 2) & a 8/32. 1 of the 11/36 was my great Grandpa's he bought new in 81. Took the motor off and put it on the other one in 94 because the steering bushings and transmission was warn out. He used it for transmission on an 80 acre farm for 10 years.
That looks a lot like the 19HP Dynamark tractor we had at my old house when I was a little kid. We had it for as long as I can remember until we moved from that house. We didn't have a way of bringing it with us, so my Dad left it to the people that bought our house as a gift for the newlyweds.
My parents bought a Dynamark back in the 60s. I'm pretty sure it had a Tecumas engine. It had a disc type drive under the area between your legs that had a rubber ringed drive wheel for gear selection. Piece of crap. Wouldn't start easily that disc drive would slip. The one you have looks like a good machine. Well worth fixing.
Anything near the street is fair game to them kind! Thanks 65ford I saw that one, I'm sure he will be happy to have been a help. Another thing that is easy to do , if you leave via the PA door is drill a hole in main door track and use a padlock or sliding bolt to lock door from inside before you leave by side door. Cheap security, also bolt timber across door bottom to reinforce it.
i gor a Dyna. irs a mud mower. i put a swing arm live axle behind it. double chain drive from a transaxle . outside bearings on the transmission shafts and input shaft, it has a 490 tecumseh with a slide carb. way over jetted ., i made double chain tighteners so i have reverse my machine was made on a wide body Murry . sold at central tractor pittsfield mass
"What was I doing in 1984?" I was working 5-7 days a wk. 52 wks. per yr. as a touring Sound and Light man for THE SAMMY GOLD BAND from LANSING,MI. Great fun it was! ✌️❤ 🙈🙉🙊
No offense but IM experience we got a new 1975 8/36 Danajunk and cut one bumpy acre for five years and the frame was cracked, the hood always vibrated against the dash making a terrible metallic sound. No possy the brakes sucked and the aluminum Briggs had no cast iron sleeve so it smoked like hell after five years! Hated that piece of shit!
I like that. I could use that around the property to pull 'stuff' instead of my mower. I like the swage idea. When I was a service rep, I carried the 2 barrel aluminum swages and crimper on the truck.
On this one, the problem was obvious, it’s the starter, don’t even need to check the solenoid. Something a lot of people don’t realize, when it comes to Briggs & Stratton starters, it’s the top bracket that defines what engine they go on, but that top bracket is interchangeable with other motors and you do not need to tear apart the entire starter to change that bracket. Something a lot of people don’t know, when it comes to changing out the starter on these engines, you do not need to remove the flywheel, if you put the flywheel in just right spot and use a 9/16 wrench you can get the bolt bolts out.
Very cool vid Taryl. This Dynamark seems nearly identical to my Murray. Mine has an 18hp Breaks and also the Peerless 2300 tranmissión in it. Pretty solid machine as is. I've customized it and made it into a miniature version of an International 1468. Greetings from the Netherlands, Mark
For those of us without ‘a cabinet full of starters’, for things like that you can pressure wash (or put it through the dishwasher) to get excess grime off and then submerge it in a bucket of evaporust to free it up. Might work might not but that’s an easy recipe most people could try at home for restoring seized up parts. I do it all the time!
I had that mower when I was kid, it was already old then, mine had a pull start on the right hand side of the dash by the key, mine was a 10 or 12 hp single cylinder
How I got that mower 🤔 when I was a kid my dad had a small lawn mowing buisness for family and friends and stuff he kept about a dozen lawns a week, his name was George and the business name was George of the Jungle lawn care, I still have some old cards, I always went with him to mow the lawns, he died out of nowhere when I was 12 my mom was poor so she sold his stuff since I was to young to drive and pull the trailer, I kept the old push mower and a Ryan brand weed wacker that had the worst carbs ever. I knocked on doors in the neighborhood mowing lawns and found that dynamrk behind a shed, I made a deal with the owner to mow his grass for free all year for that mower once a week cut. Then had a old neighbor help me get it running. Down the road I did the same deal for a New craftsman push mower for a older lady just had to mow her lawn for free and I could have the mower. Mowing was a side hustle I always had until I started another distribution buisness that pays me better lol . Now I just now my 5 acres and that’s enough.
Thanks Taryl, good mention on the gas valve. I walked into my shop today and gasoline fumes about knocked me down , tracked it down to the Honda mower. Whoever (me) that used it last left it open. Could have been catastrophic. Central California watching
Gidday from Australia Taryl. Love ur work, especially the stuff u build from junk. Got a tip fot ur Grassrats. If u have a weak altrrnator on ur lawn tractor, get some cheap leds to replace the tungsten bulbs. They will give great light and draw hardly any current. Keep the Mini Mad Max projects coming. Onya mate.
Hey Taryl, try some baking soda, about half a tea spoon and some water. For your heart burn. I've been doing this for over ten years and it works for me, no Rx crap. Cheers, happy new year!
That tip seems brass, in Europe lots of spark plugs came with brass tips maybe up to the 90s when bean counters decided that brass was too expensive. The crappy "cheapnese" plugs look like them have golden anodized aluminium tips, but I never seen one in person, anyway I doubt anodizing alone would stop such high voltages, especially after being scratched a few times by the clip when the user tries to find why the engine won't start. I have a theory: In spark plugs with a built-in resistor, the resistor is made of glass mixed with a conductive powder, but it is simply called a glass seal instead of a resistor. If someone without knowledge tries to make a counterfeit or really cheap spark plug and needs to find out how a real one is made, they will cut one longitudinally in half and they will find what looks like a piece of dark ceramic separating the two halves of a metallic electrode, if they investigate a little they will discover that the the manufacturer of the original spark plug says that this is the glass seal. Since a scammer probably has no idea how a spark plug works, it is probably that they will use regular glass, that is, 100% insulating glass instead of resistive glass and therefore the electricity cannot come out the other end to create the spark. It would be interesting to measure the resistance of one of those spark plugs to see if they actually used an insulator instead of a resistor.

I worked part time in a rural hardware store in the late 70s. We sold those Dynamarks by the truckloads . Literally..the 8 HP 32 inch El-Cheapo was the one we sold the most of.
This project Looks right up Elksin's alley. Fire it up, fire it up, fire it up !!!
this one sounds very healthy, great find it even has the 5 lug rear hubs.
What a classic find right there glad you were able to get a hold of it before it met the graveyard…👍👍👍
Love the bs opposed twin . Great engine.
Awesome. My first tractor was exactly this model. I had the 42” side discharge mower deck and a snow plow for it. I was like 14 years old and mowed 8 lawns a week with it. This brings back some memories. That engine always ran so good , even in zero degrees. I also had an 8hp pull start Dynamark
I have an 18
hp that i removed from a junk Scotts and put in a Deere 116.
Taryl your the best i like how you show all the side jobs. You make it look easy.
Great Video Taryl
i gor a Dyna. irs a mud mower. i put a swing arm live axle behind it. double chain drive from a transaxle . outside bearings on the transmission shafts and input shaft, it has a 490 tecumseh with a slide carb. way over jetted ., i made double chain tighteners so i have reverse my machine was made on a wide body Murry . sold at central tractor pittsfield mass
Great "TIP" with the Cable Taryl!
I would have never thought of soldering the cable and connector...
"What was I doing in 1984?"
I was working 5-7 days a wk. 52 wks. per yr. as a touring Sound and Light man for THE SAMMY GOLD BAND from LANSING,MI.
Great fun it was!
✌️❤
🙈🙉🙊
My grandpa had a Dynamark made in the early to mid 70’s. I believe the body is still behind his house
Better hope the lawn mower detectives don’t find out 😂
turn it into a race mower
Grandpas or the dynamark?
No offense but IM experience we got a new 1975 8/36 Danajunk and cut one bumpy acre for five years and the frame was cracked, the hood always vibrated against the dash making a terrible metallic sound. No possy the brakes sucked and the aluminum Briggs had no cast iron sleeve so it smoked like hell after five years! Hated that piece of shit!
@@billdowhower335 it was built on a Friday.
Nice Job Taryl!
That motor is bigger than my first car's! Small Honda AN600..love the repair videos. Building a minibike with scrap motors and learning all from you.
Good fix'in T. That was one serious mouse nest. Between you and Musty watch out for that hantavirus !
In 84 I was a senior in High School. It was a grand decade to be young 👍
1984…drinking Mad Dog on Saturday night. Listening to Prince and riding my Yamadog RX50
Amazing the seat was still in pretty good condition.
In the video Taryl asked what were you doing in 1984 in 1984, I was growing hair listening to metal 🤘🤘
Me to, met my future wife, rolling big time in my 1978 ranchero gt 351w bored 60 over. Racing dogs all over the country. Life was good.
Down the road I did the same deal for a
New craftsman push mower for a older lady just had to mow her lawn for free and I could have the mower. Mowing was a side hustle I always had until I started another distribution buisness that pays me better lol . Now I just now my 5 acres and that’s enough.
Hey Taryl great video my friend God bless you and your crew
That would make a great restoration project.
You the man!!! Thanks for sharing your years of knowledge.
I use a squirt bottle with 2 cycle mix in it rather than starting fluid ,starting fluid can wash the oil off the cylinder and rings.
Another great video Taryl: I was glad to see that the subject tractor had the “opposed twin” as my next rehab project has a similar engine.
My grandmother had a dynamark 8/36
Loved it
Glad to see you finally looking at the gasoline. Looks like water to me too.
Glad you saved this machine
Poor old Fluffy! At least you now know where modern MTD products come from..
Glad I found your channel have been watching for a few months now it's a good show and informative keep up the good work God bless
Thanks Taryl, good mention on the gas valve. I walked into my shop today and gasoline fumes about knocked me down , tracked it down to the Honda mower. Whoever (me) that used it last left it open. Could have been catastrophic. Central California watching
Hey happy 2023 Taryl lovin the videos!
Onya mate.
Enjoyed you working on the carbatrator! Lol. Watching from Ontario Canada 🎉
Hey Taryl, try some baking soda, about half a tea spoon and some water. For your heart burn. I've been doing this for over ten years and it works for me, no Rx crap. Cheers, happy new year!
Another old tractor saved from the scrap yard. I love those old opposed twin engines.. Briggs or Kohler either one. They were good old work horses!!
My grandparents had a Dynamark 10/32. I really miss that thing.
Thanks again missed your crew.
Great video as allways Taryl.Happy new year to you all.Theres your dinner.
I have a theory:
In spark plugs with a built-in resistor, the resistor is made of glass mixed with a conductive powder, but it is simply called a glass seal instead of a resistor.
Yes you do make it look easy
Just came across this video through algorithm. Taryl you are a funny dude, "Engine starts" Wooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Funny, good work
Holy buckets that thing runs I'm glad I brought it down Great job
Great job often wonder why good equipment is thrown away just take some time to figure out why it quit Great job
U have love these 👍👍👍 I have one of 1975 white boss 1650 I planing to restore but always no time 🥺
You are good! Keep making great content!
Safety ,schmaftey . Good work .
Taryl….you should DEFINITELY build a mud mower!!!!! That would be an awesome series of videos!!! With your creativity it would be a BEAST!!!!
