this is my first finding out my game was reviewed. also, the first i've heard of how it now plays given that i designed it four years ago. thanks, tom. :)
There is a quick play variant where you only have 3 agents up at any one time. It is in the rule book where from season 4 on wards when you reveal a new agent you flip your oldest agent down. Not sure how it balances however as i have never played that variant.
Love this game and wish it got a little more love all around! One alternate that might speed it up (haven't tried it yet) is in the rules, the "cells" variant. Instead of using all your agents for gold, canvassing and powers you only use your most recent 3. Has anyone tried that variant?
I have now seen that of the three big Tempest games (Mercante, Courtier and this one) the one common complaint: the game is too long. I've only played Mercante myself but I will never play that one again and I'm very wary of Courtier and Dominare.
It's absolutely nothing like Lords of Waterdeep (aside from cube meeples!). Ironically it is exactly what LoWD SHOULD have been however. Each agent card being a character from Forgotten Realms, etc. oh well. LoWD will just have to remain a copycat game who's theme means nothing. Dominare is a great game. Four of us played today in three hours with a good half hour of that being taken up by teaching new players.

Walter Gremin Talis? I don't think so. I recognize you. You're...THE BARON. Compare hands? NEVER!
