I’ve just binged all the videos and coming to northwestern in September so I’m really excited to see where I live and from what I can tell so far just hopefully not Bob 😂 really looking forward to the rest of the tours
Hi, these videos are so helpful! Is 1838 Chicago's AC that bad? I know Carson said that the AC doesn't get that cold and basically stays the same temperature no matter what you set the thermostat to but was he talking about the air coming out of the AC or the room temperature? Like could the AC at 1838 Chicago cool a room down to 65-67º at night? Also it looks like 1838 Chicago and Schapiro/Lincoln have basically the same AC setup, so do people at Schapiro/Lincoln have the same complain as Carson about the AC being pretty weak? Also how good are window AC units?
From Carson: The AC in 1838 doesn’t get super cold, you can’t adjust the thermostat below 68 degrees, but this has been fine throughout the year. I’ve had no complaints about my room temperature, but I also have a fan in my room that’s usually running. I’d assume that the other rooms that have the same thermostat would also not be able to adjust it below 68. It’s just not like a typical AC that you may be able to get constant cold air, it comes on periodically. But you wouldn’t be able to get the room to 65-67 degrees
As for Lincoln, I’m not sure. I’ve never been in a room that was particularly cold, it kinda does feel like it’s at a constant 68ish but I’ve never heard anyone complain. I can say the bobb window AC units are great. It can get pretty cool or you can just have it on fan setting. I’d assume other window unit dorms are the same
Love your series! How is Elder hall? I've been able to find very few pictures of it. Do you all have any recommendations when picking res halls and colleges as well? Thank you!
thank you so much! The rooms in Elder r small and it’s pretty far north so if u plan on having a lot of classes south campus i wouldn’t recommend. I would say it’s better than bobb and sargent if so if u r looking for a larger community elder is a good choice. As for recommendations, obviously Schapiro/Lincoln but also the old frats/sororities are a nice small community!
When picking a place to live, definitely factor in where your classes will be but also things like if you want to live closer to downtown (south), the rly nice gym SPAC (north), etc. Also what kind of size you want - smaller dorms/res colleges will probably be a closer community than a large dorm. They’ll also be quieter. I’d also say that there’s kinda a stereotype that south campus is more arts/humanities ppl and north is more stem/athlete which is obviously a huge generalization and there are def mixes in both but I’d say generally it’s pretty true!
I’m so honored to be featured in this
