@@kylewood4852 For sure man. Been teaching myself banjo via guitar and am especially trying to grasp/play Macon's material. You've been a fantastic resource.
@@mixmastercj100 Well I'm glad you're getting something out of these vids! Other than Leroy Troy and a few others, there's really not a whole lot of good resources to study Dave's wild picking.
@@kylewood4852 Dude, tell me about it. It's tricky right now cause I've had no problem learning stuff by ear (namely guitar and harmonica) but since it's a new instrument, figuring out the nuts and bolts of UDM has been a real doozy LOL, and there's certain songs of his I REALLY want to play in particular. Is there a particular process you have?
@@mixmastercj100 I wish I had a solid process but since 2017 all I did was keep the banjo by my side and play it every bit of free time I had (even in a coffee stand drive thru lines) until things started to click. I'd say study all the chords you can in standard tuning, Two-finger C tuning and Sawmill tuning then listen to old recordings and try making out the chords and hand placements. To be honest, in the beginning all I did was study David Akmen (Stringbean) a bunch and just get used to swifty chord progression. Lastly you might try singing the song out as it can help you pick it out sometimes. Just curious, what's one of the UDM tunes you'd like to learn?
To all the Dave Macon enthusiasts, would anybody like a close up lesson to get started playing this tune if I put one together?
Absofknlutely!
Yes bro! Any lesson learned you put out would be appreciated
Ripping!
That was awesome! We need to get you a straw hat for the summertime!
Thanks and negative on the straw hat. This cueball head and straw don't get along well ya see lol
That was wild 🪕⚡️⚡️⚡️. Uncle Dave is smiling up there in Glory
Thanks man! This one really hits the spot.
wow love that style you're attacking that thing! learning from your keep my skillet good n greasy lesson right now, might try this one next
Oh nice I hope thats going well! And thanks man, Stringbean was the first banjo picker I ever watched so I just assumed thats how everyone plays haha
Man you’re impressive. The laughing was spot on, just like the record. Keep em coming, Kyle!
