I have done Moro Rock several times, but never at night. Looks like a great idea. My favorite time doing it was my first time, because I was with my dad. He was proud of himself for making it to the top. He was probably about my age now 74 when we did it, and was the survivor of a 5 way heart bypass several years before we did it. Great memories.
Being new to Cali and feeling overwhelmed with all the national parks and forests around me your channel is really helpful. They're informative, and I love the history tidbits you throw in there. Thanks!
My fiance and I are heading up there in August. I've lived in Cali for over 40 years and this will be my first time to Sequoia. Awesome video and this got us really excited about our trip.
Hiked Moro Rock with my father when I was 10 years of age in 1992, I'll never forget the views and magnitude of the landscape. My poor older broth had to turn around as he started to experience vertigo less than halfway up.
I get dizzy standing on a chair! I even got dizzy watching this video! Thank you for posting this beautiful scenery though. I know it's something I'll never do.
Years ago, I hiked this rock with friends during the day, then we went back to our campground to rest and eat. Then, we went back later at night, hiked it again, just so we could play a game of cards under the stars. Good times!
Never, ever was aware of this incredible hike until now. I'm really surprised something this special is so unwell known. Many Thanks and nice work on the filming!
@@samorkim you don't need a Reservation. Just show up earlier to avoid any traffic lines. If you'd like you can buy a pass before you enter but you arent required to make a reservation to enter the park
Went there today for the first time with my brother during the day , Such a beautiful experience. We were so hyped we went at midnight the same day brought our guitars and jammed out praising the Lord for his Goodness and glory . He is sovereign over creation . Also you could see the whole valley at night and all the stars , just as beautiful at night . Just make sure you have someone with you to be safe
Thanks so much for the details on the difficulty and the potential (dare I use the word) pitfalls of the hike. I’m middle aged and, although I love to hike, I must always consider carefully just what I’m getting myself into. You did a fabulous job in making that clear (I’m going for it!).
66, out of shape, and slightly overweight, I thought this a fairly easy hike. Had to stop a number of times but well worth the effort. Great videos and I am really enjoying your series. Taking notes as I view. Damn this Covid.
Absolutely Breathtaking, semi easy physically, I was out of shape, harder mentally for me I was afraid of hikes then. Conquered my fear, I wanna go back ASAP!!! I'm hooked💗
Moro Rock is really amazing at night. I have gone up there a lot, especially on the 4th of July. You can see a good amount of the fire work shows from up there. When you don't have a good show to watch it is fun to compare the ones you can see from up there. I love seeing other people enjoying the park. It is a truly beautiful place.
Wow, I did not know about this trail! I was at that park but like I said, I wasn't aware of this trail or I would have hiked it! If I ever get back that way, it goes on my bucket list!
WOW!! That’s amazing. We recently blogged our first trip to Sequoia Nat’l Forest, and did Dome Rock, which we thought had crazy-great views, but THIS?! Talk about “views!” Well done!
I was in san diego for a wedding with my wife and son and we spontaneously decided to go to sequoia after we visited family etc. it was so worth it. we took our 3yr old son to morrow rock. I squeezed his hand so hard the entire hike lol. that road you were pointing to that is a lookout point below, there was a bad accident while we were there. a delivery truck was going downwards, while a small SUV was going upwards, both met right at the sharp turn and collided. I helped out and provided first aid to the victims of the SUV. I felt so bad for them. this was back in early june 19'. and I so remember so vividly holding my son on top of morrow rock lookin down at the lookout point and still seeing the 2 vehicles there with rangers helping etc.

Hi Josh, we’re coming to California in August this year from the U.K. and have been watching all your vlogs. Thanks for taking the time to doing them and they’ve been super helpful to us planning things
My friend and I free climbed the face of it 20 years ago. Our Former Neighbor Danelle Stroh’s (RIP)Father built the original wooden stairway. She lived her first 14 years in a tent. I drove that road in a 55,000 pound Garbage truck for 23 years. We live just outside the Entrance. Cheers. Sadly 134 square miles of this just burned. The Sheriff just cancelled our Evacuation order today after 32 days.
Very nice. Been there last Summer. The kids loved it. Sequoia National Park was one of the highlights of visiting California in 2019. I basically planned the whole trip based on the videos of your channel.
Thanks for these great videos. Hopefully when the kids are older I will be able to travel from the UK to visit these gorgeous places. In the meantime I have some Sequoias growing in the garden :)
Added to Bucket list! Thank you for your detailed explanations and just overall chill vibe, those night photos were amazing!! I've had dreamed of Sequoia trees for the past 2 years, hoping this year is the one I get to meet the giants and climb this awesome cooled magma chamber , can't believe that was underground at some point!
I once went to Moro Rock in October. Driving to the trail, it was very foggy. We were questioning if we should continue driving. When we parked there the fog went away and a small slit of light cut through the clouds. It was the most beautiful sight I have even seen. Lighting decided to hit the rock so I had to turn around. When we got to the bottom hail started as well.
My first time on top the summit was a bit intimidating, but the hike up was not too terrible as there are walls or rails that keep you from the drop-offs. There is one brief section, tho, where the wall is only about knee height. Not bad as long as you're not trying to pass anyone ;-)
Great content!! Thanks for the heads up while hiking this trail. Thinking about heading there this weekend... any other advise you'd give to help prepare for our trip?
If you haven't already, I suggest checking out Kings Canyon NP which is a 1.5 hour drive from Sequoia NP. There are two parts: a small part with General Grant Tree, and the larger part with the actual canyon and the alpine lakes about 45 minutes away to the East. The admission for Sequoia NP also works for Kings Canyon. Kings canyon is like a smaller Yosemite Valley, but usually with a lot less people. It's one of my favorite NPs!
Such an amazing view when I visited for my 2nd time a few weeks ago! Those stairs seemed never ending but worth it haha Actually got into the park for free for some reason! Dope content
I know what you mean about difficult short hikes. I once went down the side of the hill at Tioga lake to get to a fishing spot. It was probably less than a hundred feet but coming back up, I had to take a break half way up. The air was way too thin.
@@californiathroughmylens My friends and I started walking the road down to Crystal Cave, but gave up as it got too hot. I have been in Boyden Cavern a few times, tho. Cool trip.
The only thing to keep in mind is that many areas of the Parks are closed now, so be sure and check their websites. The Park Service is touting their “Phased Reopening” at many locations, so you may not be able to hike a trail you otherwise could. I also get the sense the staffing is low, so that is slowing down the process of getting things opened as well.
This looks amazing- how long did it take you to come up to the top? Including the little stops along the way for vista views? Heading there Tuesday with my kid and am trying to plan the day. Thanks so much! Love your videos!!!

@@raiders5100 not long, maybe a half hour. Depends how many times you stop to catch your breath or just look at the view.
