Thank you for this! I’ve tried figuring out how to increase the color contrast for the sky without washing out the details of structures - and you just showed me a way!
It is amazing how the photo looked more like what it was intended to be after using the Darktable. This has more options then I expected and it will really help in my photos. Thanks for taking the time to produce and share this.
My comment: Grateful for a start! Loved the honest approach. Looking however for the artistic touch, I'm a newcomer to editing and considering for now a low budget option for a start. This is to say that I had to look for your tutorials first. Well informative, other videos might be more artistic wise, however not clearly explained - meaning not reaching the goal. Great job!
Good stuff 😎 For photos with such extreme contrasts in distinct areas (sky - the rest) i have found a solution that takes a bit more time but delivers better (in my view) results. I just do not try to do everything in one go. Step 1 - make the best darktable adjustments for the sky, don't care about the rest Step 2 - export. Step 3 and 4 - the same for the non-sky areas Step 5 join the 2 resulting files in a HDR program or any editor like GIMP I know this is no longer beginner editing and no longer darktable only but it opens the eye to the fact that darktable, like any other tool, has its strengths but also limitations.
@@@TJFREE Thanks for the feedback. You are right. I haven't seen it that way until now 😁 but i admit i'm not a darktable purist. I mix different tools and styles. As i don't earn any money with my photos i normally just look for a fast way to get close enough to what i have in my head, the result should look like Here is a 15Min result photos.app.goo.gl/fg3YpmG9LDUZ8VEY6 The original is full size of course but the upload would have been too long. The details are amazing but i will not throw my APSC away (yet)... 😂
@@@TJFREE small addition!! With your proposed idea you would have to use multiple instances of several modules. No problem! What i have seen seldom mentioned in darktable tutorials (perhaps an idea for you?) is the simple usage of selections in different modules. You can just choose an already existing selection and apply it in another module or other instance of the same module for different purposes. For really big projects you can even name selections (sky, trees, person5.....) That is a nice feature. Perhaps it is never explained because most people just don't do big enough jobs with darktable
@@uweinhamburg That's a great idea, and I agree that it seems to be a feature less used and understood. I have some video on masking in Darktable that will be released in a few days, and they do touch a little on the Mask Manager, for applying different modules to the same masked area. Also, I used to live in Leipzig. Ich liebe Deutschland!
@@@TJFREE Dann können wir ja deutsch schreiben 😂 But the others won't understand it, so let's keep it English. Cool, explaining the Mask Manager would be something new!
Please re. Edit your inkscape videos and in video editor u use it make zoom and follow cursor pointer I really interested but I can not follow your inkscape tutorials Please tj free your inkscape video is good but I can not follow and see I ask what where tj clicks But thanks for your forward On oliver and dark table Keep going forward And when you finish dark table series Make a Libre office tutorials Writer. Impress. Calc. Base. Draw And again thanks for your afford
Can I please give you one advice. Please don't repeat sections which you have already covered in great detail in the previous chapters. Now in this video you again started the snapshot thing which you have already explained pretty well. Its very annoying if the presenter just keeps going back and explaining the same thing again and again.

You're welcome, John! Glad to help.
A little tip...glue a circle of white paper in your lens cap. That way you can accurately set the white balance
Oh cool, good idea. Thanks for sharing!
You definitely brought this picture back from the dead! Thanks for the tutorial❤️
Thank you so much for these tutorial videos!

Thanks uwe! Great idea. This can also be done entirely in Darktable using masks, and applying multiple instances of the same modules.

A question for the import of photos. Does Darktable physically import the photos and create its own database?
Excellent - I learnt a lot - Thanks
Thank you so much sir for this video I spend 4 days search how to save the photo after editing and i didn't find anything
