You know, if anybody has had good character development overtime besides Naofumi, it's the Blacksmith here. He didn't like the Shield Hero at first, but then he met Naofumi. He didn't trust demi-humans at first, and then he met Raphtalia. Now he treats them as equals and with respect. He's a bit underlooked, especially given certain things about him like his level.

@@theonejackal89 Well he did initially judged at first... However, it didn't take long (I think only 1-2 episodes) before he started to treat Naofumi based on his actions rather than the rumors he heard
The sorceres was also nice to Naofumi. she gave him plenty of old books and advised him to learn the hard way as it made the spells more powerful
I love how while the guy was complimenting Raphtalia, Naofumi had this "X to doubt" look on his face

For those finding it stupid that naofumi doesnt see her Grown Up Will understand in the next episode. SPOILERRRRRS !!!!! he was so affected by what happened at the beginning that he has some kind of mental breakdown. He cant taste food anymore nor can he see that raphtalia as she is right now, he still sees her as the young version in His eyes. Let's just Say that when he finds out, It is one of the best scene and the founding of their relationship.
She still has some childish mannearisms, so it makes even harder to him to see her grow up.
Also, is actually sad that he cant see it yet: her grow up and power is the best sign that he has taken care of her very well

I love this show. One of the best anime to come out of the past few years.

I miss Raphtalia. Such a wonderful character. I want to see much more of her! She carries so much of the show and her development (not necessarily physically.. only) was a joy to watch.

Problem? Seeing her grow up and become more assertive is kind of the main point of her character arc so far and it's really heartwarming, don't fucking make it weird.

And yes, her growing as a person is the point of her character, but throughout the entire episode, the shield hero himself is berating people, calling them lolicons, for salivating over her, so yeah, a ten year old suddenly getting a woman's body is *PRETTY FUCKING WEIRD* to put it mildly, that doesn't mean it can't work as a story.

Raphtalia's purpose is to come back from a low place and help the guy who helped her out of the low place out of the low place.
But when you see the story unfold you get really attached to everyone but the king, Malty and the three heroes church.

I have two theories:
1: her shirt was really long on her when he first got her, and now it seems to fit better, so maybe she just grew into it.
2: He might have just bought her new clothes if she seemed to be outgrowing the old ones. He clearly cares for her basic needs, so it seems pretty likely.

I'm not sure if it's the translation or just the direction they chose, but the manga had his armor being made with parts he found. It's main feature was it could be upgraded with items he found, and the main perk was they didn't have to explain him wearing the same armor.

I just noticed that naofumi has same VA as sakuta and raphtalia has same VA as Mai from bunny girl senpai.
Maybe the twist would be better if Raphtalia still looked like a kid and she looked grown up after the fight with the Spear Hero and she was comforting him. Then we would be asking why Raphtalia is acting so much older and be in the Shield Hero's shoes, only seeing Raphtalia as a kid while everyone else sees her as an adult. Instead of us just asking how did she grow up so fast for nearly two episodes.
