- R.I.P. Shaw Taylor.
Shaw Taylor seeks Lord Lucan. Working at the COI (Central Office of Information) in the 1980s as a freelance director, we made films on life in Britain for foreign audiences. Here, a film about Shaw Taylor and Police 5 -- the fore-runner to Crimewatch. I suggested to the producer that, as our film was international, we should emulate Police 5 and "advertise" for a major British criminal suspect abroad -- Lord Lucan - absconder after allegedly murdering his nanny mistaking her for his wife. "Great idea, I'll ask Scotland Yard for a drawing". Then, alone, the producer tasked elsewhere, I presented this rough cut to Sir Hyan Mitey, Head of Television, Foreign and Commonwealth Office... who hit the roof and demanded the Lucan sequence be removed. Officially the reason was that HMG would be seen to letting a murder suspect get away. I protested, the producer caved in, told me "shut up" and had the sequence binned. I thought it lost but now found on an old tape! So, why the fuss? HMG embarrassment, establishment protection, suicide, bumped off, eaten by tiger or could this Director's cut have had him nicked? Yer'll never know, but "keep'em peeled."
Used to deliver his daily newspapers to his flat on Streatham High Rd back in the day...1973ish
RIP Shaw Taylor. I'm still keeping em peeled
I remember watching Police 5 when I was young and those photofits use to scare the fuck out of me.
R.I.P Shaw Taylor another great in there field gone but will not be forgotten
the lord lucan case is unique this striking man that would stand out in a crowd, and they always show this portrait of him and assume that he would have still looked like the pic....and as of now how old would he be...80 odd something like that but no one ever thinks along those lines. IF they did a new documentary about this caee i bet they would still use that pic
RIP Shaw Taylor
The picture held by Shaw Taylor was drawn by a police artist but I imagine based on photographic images available at the time. Thanks for your interest.
We need to bring back this show, with a new and good enough presenter.
lord lucan still not found after nearly 40 years
"Keep em peeled!"
Anyone seen Lord Lucan?
Heaven help me . . . .
Saw him in Tesco's yesterday
Who was the female reporter?
Hello, I really can't remember. We often had three presenters speaking different languages. These were Foreign Office news reports for worldwide use. The series was "This Week in Britain".
Suspicious eh?
lucan was a suspect not a convicted criminal!!!
