I am no pro RUclipsr just wanted to throw this out there. The new Traxxas Raptor R is an absolute blast! Handles excellent out of the box, looks so scale, handles woops great and is just a nice piece of kit. I have run it 3 times now. Once very short to see where the tires rub and corrected that. Two more full on hard running on dirt, short hard grass and pavement on a 110* day. Both times I thought the battery died in 7-8 minutes but it was the electronics overheating. I am 100% stock including the stock installed gearing. I have ordered the Slash 4x4 cooling system with the dual fans and ESC fan in hopes it fits. Same power setup so I dont see why it wouldnt. I will update after they arrive next week.
Truck is easily doing 45 MPH. I imagine the speed gear may get it near 60 which is nuts for a 3S RC car thats so scale. I wont do that modification until I tackle the cooling issue.
Honestly this and the Promoto are the two coolest RC items I have bought in years.
I wish I would have watched this yesterday. But I was busy over heating my esc and burning off my paint.
I put fans on mine and have had no problems in Central Texas but it hasn't really been hot since Christmas lol
Yeah i installed the normal Slash VXL cooling system on the ESC and dual Power Hobbies fans on the motor. Its all but cured the issue. I didnt have a problem the last few months but I did thermal it yesterday. Granted its on the speed gear and I did non stop speed runs off road for about 12 minutes before it did. Normal driving/bashing and its not an issue!
Picking mine up later today. Are the black accents above the wheel wells stickers? I watched an unboxing of a blue truck, and noticed it was solid blue above the wheel wells.
Yes, they come with the wheel well stickers. Also two small black stickers that I cant figure out where they go. lol
I put those ones on the hood!

The two little black stickers connect the rear fender to the rear bumper

Thank you. Have you considered using this chrome looking fiber filled tape instead of gorilla tape?
I have not as the Gorilla tape has worked well. The BETTER option would be to use that drywall tape over the whole body and then shoe goo it. That makes them as strong as you can get them.
Seems like the overheating and lack of cooking fans is becoming an issue QUICKLY with this model. For almost $600 - they could have done better.
I agree. Its expensive enough to have included the cooling system. I am not bashing that hard to thermal a 100% stock truck out so fast. At least the cooling kit is only $22 on Amazon and should be plug and play. If it resolves the issue then I have zero complaints about the truck.

But do any of the Vxl models come with the fans from the factory?
I paid $450 for mine a couple weeks ago. I would not have paid full price for it. Probably would have stepped up to the UDR.
My motor overheated and it stop working ,do u recommend any after market ones
Sorry to hear that. I havent motor swapped one as of yet but its really in what you prefer. Castle Creations seems to be popular and you can get them sensored so that they are smoother. Hobby Wing also makes many kits that are a little less expensive. I would just suggest finding a similar KV motor and maybe upgrading the ESC as a better ESC will perform.... well better. A similar KV motor will allow the truck to maintain its ability to go fast but a better quality one with more TQ will also allow it to run cooler and will make the motor less prone to damage. I didnt want to hurt the VXL system which is why i threw the Power Hobby cooling fans on mine within the first week.
Could you tell if it was the ESC or the motor that was getting too hot? I havent had any issue with mine so far but its been 60° or less when I ran it.
Both get hot. Very hot. I ran it yesterday though when it was only 60* out and it ran MUCH cooler. Texas Summer is BRUTAL and just hell on the electronics.

Getting my first rc and I have no idea what to get. I own a raptor so I thought this raptor would be sick!

This raptor r seems like a blast. Online it says 60mph. Shouldn’t it go 60 mph?
I just did my first real speed test this last weekend with it using my SKY RC Performance analyzer. On the stock gear it did 53MPH and seeing how the speed gear has a few more teeth, seems like a likely top speed. At 53 though its blazing fast. Its a great rig though and very very robust. 50 packs through mine now and not a single breakage. I did add the motor and ESC cooling fans and that helped a lot but its stock otherwise. Also I would HIGHLY suggest putting Gorilla tape on the inside of the body where the tires touch under load. Will keep the body paint job nice and fresh.
You could have pic up v2 4s kraton with already up grades and saved some $$

I have driven the Kraton and its more like a Maxx than this truck. Great truck just not anything like this. I have a shelf FULL of Traxxas, Arrma and Losi. They all have good/bad things about them. The Raptor R is just a different breed.
It's a longer traxxas slash 4x4 with light and a nice body. The 4s kraton would eat that thing up .
