Not just "as good" but uniquely moving. Carreras communicates the bravery and determination of his character. His "vincero" means something more than usual.
My wife and I have been long proponents of Pavarotti's version of Nessun Dorma, the 1972 studio recording of Turandot, conducted by Mehta. But my, oh my , oh my, Carreras has to be at the top. Not sure the two can compare, but this is about the best I've ever heard of Nessun Dorma. Bravo to one of the best. 👍
I always thought that Jose Carreras had the most beautiful tone of all the 3 Tenors. He also sang with the most feeling. this is wonderful. Pavarotti might have had better high Cs, but Carreras tops Domingo every time in this department, and he doesn't sound reedy like Domingo on those high Cs.
It's one thing to sing this dramatic aria in front of a microphone 6" from your mouth. It's an entire different performance when live, on stage, no microphone, in character, and singing like this. Full chest high C - amazing!
His face at the end says it all; almost smiling, a little smirk escapes in his face breaking character while thinking to himself: "I did... I fucking did it... I FUCKING DID IT, I, FUCKING, NAILED IT". It's just great, man.
The most beautiful! I never tire of listening to this expressive voice and watching this gorgeous man. This performance predates his nearly fatal leukemia, but we came to see that "vincero" really belongs to Carreras.
Agree. Wish he would have stuck to studio recordings of this. Like many lyric voices, he couldn't say no when the offers for roles like Calaf came in. He sings it well here, but cumulatively, the heavy roles took their toll.
Pavarotti and Carreras ruins their voices... Not a true Calaf, like LP. Mosquitto... Poor Opera, bad example for newcomers and great example for choosing true repertoire!
The singer who brought me to love opera.
This is simply stunning and confirms what I always knew he is no lesser a talent than Pavarotti or Domingo I love it
Indeed, he is magnificent.
Ma certo, ci mancherebbe!
Carreras was the best his voice- passion - stage presence--he lived the role absolutely magnificent 👏 ❤️
Carreras does my favorite interpretation of Nessun Dorma. In that final stanza I really believe him - that he will win at dawn!
Me too, he is amazing
He is really a prince!!!
You can fly on the beauty of this. Thank you, Maestro Carreras.
I’ll never understand why Carreras was so underrated. His nessun dorma is as good as anyone’s. 👏
Not just "as good" but uniquely moving. Carreras communicates the bravery and determination of his character. His "vincero" means something more than usual.
@@bethfiori4708 I agree. Carreras' Nessun Dorma, when in character, is my favourite by far for that very reason.
He has a noble bearing and sings with his soul. He is a joy to see and hear.
Christine Phillips you are absolutely right. And opera is about passion, feeling, not just y acrobatics. He dies every time he sings.
Grande Carreras,unico per sempre
Stunningly amazing interpretation. Reminiscent of the great Giuseppe di Stefano.
Magnifico!!!
Absolutamente grandioso.
Che bella voce ! La piu bella...
Grazie Maestro.
Josep Carreras, the best!!!
The one who sang in rouge nation is Gregory Kunde
👍👍👍
My goodness! He lived the entire line. I felt it in my soul.
There is no one quite like Jose.
💜
THE MOST IMPRESSIVE CALAF EVER!!!!!! Thank you very much for sharing!!!!
He is magical

For me, this is the most beautiful and moving.
omg!!! full of confession and emotion! love enlighten us all! Love Carreras!!
Simplemente maravilloso.!!
Rogue Nation brought me here; such an amazing piece of art!
Espectacular José.❤❤❤
If there is the best phrasing... There is a Carreras world... An unreal world!!! My favorite!!!

Agreed! Even though we don’t have any High C’s in this aria, but his high notes were smooth, delicate and pleasant to hear
I agree. I am no expert on opera. But I prefer the voice of Carreras
Bravo ! Jose. I love it.
Absolutaly beautiful !!! 💙💙💙💙

High B
One time before I die, I want to see this opera live
Bill Gaglione Me too man :)
I am going to see coming October at the Met.
I've seen it twice. You'll love it. :)
We love you Carreras
I cry, really.

Carreras. This might not be his best performance, but he is THE tenor.
GRANDE GRANDE,CARRERAS
È la migliore interpretazione di questa aria!!!
Great!
Bravo 👏
Magnifico
what a friggin voice!
GREAT!!!!
Rogue Nation may have reminded me of this, but I originally heard it in The Sum of All Fears. Lol.
GRACIAS🌹
Bravooo
At dawn I shall win!
netwitch56 2:48
+netwitch56 Al alba vincero = at dawn I shaw win
When i wait for a nice ending and it cuts short....
El mejor
💚
Awesome Calaf
I have now seen the whole opera and he is so good in it. A more lyrical interpretation than say Corelli but I loved it
i often heared this song but nerver so emotional like carreras does it here
Directed by Harold Prince!
Piękne !!!
Name of this awesomeness?
Somewhere above the stage, Tom Cruise was fighting a 5'8" guy.
Spechless...
Marcela castaño
Is
He really had to push for that top B, but it added real drama to this performance.
Is this the same Jose Carreras in the three tenors
Yes
I think a better translation of "vincero" is "I will prevail".
No, it is i will win, i will be victorious... i will defeat (whatever the situation he is against).
Or... She will be mine or mine at last
I'm thinking "I will vanquish" or "I will evince".
@@freg35 Yes, "to win" the woman? or win the game? but "to prevail" is to overcome his many obstacles and to succeed. What's your interpretation?
Thank you sir, you made an example for me of what happens for a lyric voice who got overused
Luciano , Corelli and beat the hell out of Domingo any day of the week. Corelli & luciano give me chills.!
What has your comment to do with Carreras
D ‘accordo
Still TOO heavy for his lirico voice
Agree. Wish he would have stuck to studio recordings of this. Like many lyric voices, he couldn't say no when the offers for roles like Calaf came in. He sings it well here, but cumulatively, the heavy roles took their toll.
Perhaps, but it sounds divine when Carreras sings it, even if his high notes aren't as secure as Pavarotti's.
Agree……Couldn't believe it when I knew he sung Turandot in whole and Tosca at that young age……
Have yo seen the whole of this opera he is wonderful - far better than Pavarotti and different to say Corrilli
A mi me encanta cantada por él
This is the way he destroys his voice. And this is the reason I stop singing spinto roles
Agree, my friend! Also, di Stefano tried too stupid things... He played Manrico, but everyone knows, what it was stupid too! Choking...
Muy corto de fiato ... cortísimo. Un nesum dorma bad... Very bad
If you mean the final note I think this as the original score intended
scheisse gay
Pavarotti and Carreras ruins their voices... Not a true Calaf, like LP. Mosquitto... Poor Opera, bad example for newcomers and great example for choosing true repertoire!
