The reason they play Sheltered By Ghosts in the main is because it's good in every matchup. Against aggro, it gives lifelink. Against removal decks, it gives ward. Against anything that relies on playing to the board as defence, it's removal.

Im so glad I was able to bring this deck to Seth's attention I saw it because I browse for new decks religiously and I played this deck and it did surprisely well. I had better luck mainly because I dodged all the Nowhere to run and Annoints haha
When you are flooded, you only can draw one piece of action off the top, while someone who is screwed can make multiple plays a turn when they break out of it.
I think it would have been correct in match 2 to mill every turn. Sure they could snipe 1 creature per turn, but surely you would be able to get enough creatures in the yard to craft the Throne eventually. If they sac and get some 1/1s, you're running removal for most creatures they'd get and have no more vacuum to deal with
Even just sheer amount of cards in graveyard might get you the octopus token, and it's not impossible to have pirate, vamp on board, too many merfolk in the yard for them to have taken care of them all, then you discard zetalpa and they don't have a chance to respond before you can craft with it.
I feel like some of the counters could be a mix of relevant creatures + Jace the Perfected Mind. Just more efficient self mill. Feels like if you just dumped 15 cards from your deck, the chances of hitting all the creature types would go way up, and potentially even get around ghost vacuum at times by milling extras so exiling 1 card still doesn't stop the grim captain
Seth hasnt played standard in a while I guess. Not only is he surprised by sheltered by ghosts, but he let a manifold mouse and a hero live together and tapped out. Those 2 can kill you from 16 with only 2 mana if the hero is already a 2 power (armor + rage makes the hero a 8 power double striker)
So to make the throne work you need to run Taurean Mauler, Barkform Harvester and Three Tree Mascot for Changeling stuff otherwise you are always going to fall behind on specific types. The problem with them being that I think all three are bad lol
Instead of self mill, I wonder if the deck wouldn't be better with tutor to graveyard effects like cynical loner and lively dirge. It could add to consistency and late game lively dirge literally tutors pieces and reanimates the scavangers for 5 mana
Been playing scavengers with hydra for the last full rotation. the key is getting a hasty boy in the yard first. then you get 2 scavenger triggers turn 3.
