- Japan claims that they have a 0% homeless population, according to the Japan Times, in 2024, there are only 2820 homeless in the entire. So it’s not exactly 0%, it’s more like .003%. Nevertheless, there are still 1000s of homeless in Japan, and I’m sure a lot go undocumented. I’m in Osaka, which has more homeless than any other city in Japan, and I’m staying in a neighborhood where they call home. Unsurprisingly, this is also considered one of the most dangerous areas in Japan. So, I went there to see for myself how dangerous this neighborhood could be, you’ll be surprised what I found.
I also ride through one of the craziest red-light districts I’ve ever seen and eat a few tasty foods while in Osaka.
More to come from the Bike Touring Japan series.

Unbelieveble.....they are have "gembel"?(homeless people) in advantage country? 😱
That's a nice conversation you had there with Usame. Unfortunately, homelessness is a problem in many large cities. The free food distribution is a good initiative. But luckily it is often provided in large cities. Nice to see some life around again. Good job Nick. Thanks and mind birds!
Yeah those food kitchens are great, never seen anything like it in Japan either. It was nice to have some life around lol, it’s so quiet in Japan in many places
I went to that area when i was in Osaka. It still felt safe. Much safer than any slum in America.
What they call Japanese slums is much cleaner than slums in other countries!
I think this is the first time I've heard you speak so much Japanese. Your Japanese is as good as a Japanese person. It's amazing!
The Japanese elder is really a legend, and his English is so good! He tells stories that have a magical power that is very attractive!
Thank you for showing us a different Osaka, super great job! 👍😍🙌
Yeah I was surprised how good his English was and how many places he’s visited. Pretty crazy. Thanks for watching!

I don't no Italian well but with my very little competency of it while I tried to learn in French and with a help of googling, I guess that : Mr. Usami tried to say that "One of my Italian friend explains me that my name(Usami) is meaning 'Use Me' in Italian (Usa mi : in this phrase the Italian verb 'usare' which is meaning 'use' in English is transformed to being called 'Usa', as a 3rd imperative use of it and 'mi' is a personal pronouns meaning 'me') so it might be easy to you to remember my name on reminisce when you consider such a coincidence." Quite a kind and benevolent, intelligent and respectable man he is.
Interesting
Did Usame just said "Yesterday ada meeting" 🤣
The slum in Osaka look better than in Jakarta.
The most dangerous places in Osaka, that was too cute for the Indonesian. 🫵💪💪💪 13:00 Hammock is Hobby, that's new.

Bro birds don't like you for some reason this year nick LMAO.
having the worst luck this year right!
Sorry dude, but u have no idea what's that place is.
Just don't joke about
I accidentally got lost there as a woman, at night. Not safe...It is different here as a tall man vs a smaller woman. I've met Nick before. He's a great dude but as a woman you still have to exercise caution. They cleaned that place up a bit since I've been. It was NOT that nice ha ha before.
