Yay! You’re back! The tall spindly cactus is called ocotillo (little torch). You’ll be passing through my birthplace soon - Silver City. It’s an awesome little town. Great food.
Good thing you started early on day 1! I've read books from people that hiked the CDT, but yours is the first VLOG I've watched for this trail. Looking forward to your travels.
While my obsession has always been the PCT, your journey on the CDT will be the first I’ve ever watched. Looking forward to it. -don from Lorain Ohio USA 🇺🇸
Hey what a nice surprise to come across your video. I decided to start from the beginning I look forward to catching up!! Glad you guys found your way happy trails!!
I've been watching for your your first vlog to appear. Glad to know you're on the trail and doing ok. Good luck with one! It looks hot, dry and desolate. Can’t wait to see your upcoming adventures. Be safe!
Congrats on getting on trail. Your Dad looks my age(71). I have seen many people get lost trying to find the the southern terminus of the CDT. Avoid the dead animals because predators are around them. Last year a herd died in the mountains. They attracted grizzlys for quiet a while and caused that section of the trail to be closed. Don't count on water. Carry extra. Getting dehydrated is nasty. As a Scout Leader and a Platoon Leader, I always carried an extra canteen hidden in my pack for first aid emergencies. Is your belt adjusted correctly if your shoulders hurt? Good video. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick
@@per-kjell4844 Thanks. My wife had an Uncle Kjell. He was her Dad's brother. My FIL was Sten Nels but everybody just called him "Swede". Good Luck, Rick
I had to bail in late March, bad footwear caused Achilles inflammation. But will follow your journey and live the experience through your eyes. Make sure to take lots of photos as well as videos. When I got home I realized I didn't take many photos but lots of videos. Anyway good luck bud!
Just picking up your journey, after my AT NOBOS have ended. Looking forward to following along, and will catch up to your current videos. Did your sweet dad make it back in less than 7 hours?
I know it’s too late but it would be nice if you stated the date during your hike. Considering doing it next year but don’t know when I would want to start. Cheers
@@goobsadventures once on trail you have no idea and it doesn’t matter until you get near the end but I’m trying to gauge when I should start. What date did you start? Of course snow levels will be important as well
@@goobsadventures thank you and guess I missed it. I know it’s all about how much snow there is in Colorado and how many miles in the desert you average. I’ve completed the PCT so the logistics are very similar to that trail not getting to the Sierra too early. I’m thinking at the start of May but as I said it’s dependent on how much snow there is. Also the problem with going later is the heat in NM. Guess it’s all a tradeoff
Oh dear!! I can see where this is going to be addicting! Why is the trail called 'wash?' My guess - when the rains come the water washes thru. On to #2!!
@@goobsadventures My plan is to start on April 15 and to take my time reaching CO. If the snow situation allows I'll continue. If not, I'll look at flipping north. It's still too early to make snow predictions. Your video has been helpful for planning. Thanks for sharing.
Loving the trail footage ! Looks great out there
Thank you for posting these and showing so much trail. Too many people think we want to see their faces while they hike.

Excited for your journey. If you are within the 50-mile corridor of the red line, you are a purist, I think.

Glad to be on the trail with you again! I can smell that dead cow all the way here🤢. Where are the buzzards??
Yeah, that cow smelled terrible and there were definitely buzzards circling above.
Practical optimistic purist!

Did your sweet dad make it back in less than 7 hours?
Lol, I hope so.
Nice video, is there a shuttle from lordsburg to the northern terminal?😊
Yes, but it’s expensive.
I know it’s too late but it would be nice if you stated the date during your hike. Considering doing it next year but don’t know when I would want to start. Cheers
When you’re on a long thru hike you never know what day it is because it doesn’t matter, but I know exactly what you’re talking about.

I started on April 16th, it's posted right on screen when I started the trail at the monument.

Yep, with your experience on the PCT I would think an early May start would be fine.
Oh dear!! I can see where this is going to be addicting! Why is the trail called 'wash?' My guess - when the rains come the water washes thru. On to #2!!
Yep, the water channels are commonly called washes.
How do you know the alternate routes 😊?
It’s in the hiking app called FarOut
When did you start 😊?
April 16th
What was your start date?
