Legends auto-aim is more of a tool than a guarantee. I find it useful as a general reference when gauging lead and direction of travel. It’s an AMAZING mechanic when you’re blind firing overtop of high terrain and can’t see what you’re shooting at. Example A: ruclips.net/video/e5gFbldflM4/видео.html

True, but that's why cruisers are soo powerful. They can autoaim over island and shoot you but you can't shoot them. I'm a firm believer that if you don't have a direct line of sight, either from your own ship or a fighter, then you can't shoot the target. Kinda broken if you ask me, but as a guidance tool for gauging shots I 100% agree.

Auto aim is generally good, when it doesnt bug out and aim obviously low or high. But seems to calculate based on the current speed of the enemy not the potential speed or turn the ship will be by the time the shells land. Which is great as every potato would have laser accuracy without needing experience.
All will be revealed with training rooms

I played over 5k games before I even knew auto aim existed 🤣 one of my friends told me about while in a division. All my firing was manual selection. Now I use it but I always adjust it just out of habit. Oddly enough just this week I’ve stopped using it to make sure I’m still making good judgment on targets. I only use it to get my reticle close to target, then adjust accordingly.

Because it usually gives the approximate area you want to fire, That can especially help with new players

Assuming auto aim is the same mechanic as implemented on the PC version of World of Warships, it is not applicable to all speeds, but is calibrated to a single speed. On PC, this speed was 20 knots.
What this means is that the Auto Aim will always assume a ship is traveling at 20 knots, even when it isn't. The only caveat to this seems to be when a ship is accelerating or decelerating below 20 knots. For a ship that is traveling at 30 knots (for example), the lead needs to be manually increased by another 50%. This effect is obviously much more noticeable at longer ranges (longer shell flight times), which is why Auto Aim can feel more accurate at close range and less accurate at long range. It also explains why most Auto Aim shots land behind the target - there aren't many ships in the game that have max speeds of 20 knots or slower other than low tier and some US BBs. The skill based aspect of this mechanic is where the player needs to A.) know the ballpark max speeds of every ship in the game, B.) decide if the target is moving at that max speed or something slower, and C.) accommodate for course changes or relative direction in order to make the correct adjustment.
Another aspect of the aiming reticule that can be helpful in adjusting aim are the vertical hash marks. These represent 5 seconds of shell flight time each, but can also be used to help manually/visually adjust the Auto Aim to compensate for differences in ship speed.
    Hope this helps!

I don't know why people make more of this stuff than it deserves. Autoaim is a tool. it's there for you to use as you see fit. It's not the be all to end all; it's not supposed to be. You should know its mechanics and limitations and how to work with them by the time you leave T5. If not, well, someone has to be in the lower end of the WR bell curve.

You have to know several things about this feature: aim assist will aim for the aft end of the citadel section at the waterline, so it's usually a good idea to give more lead to hit the center of the ship unless the ship is hitting the brakes hard. Second, aim assist does only consider the current speed and course of the target, but no rudder and no acceleration/deceleration. From time to time aim assist is completely off target, but you can easily identify these cases by aiming a couple of times or by experience. And i guess that some "RNG" is added to aim assist as well...
So aim assist is a good starting point for a perfect shot, but you have to modify it accordingly. On the other hand, Legends would barely be playable without this feature unless we get mouse support.

I use auto aim to get me close to target or fire the first salvo and then adjust accordingly. What I find happens quite often is that when you zoom in it takes you nowhere near the target. A problem if you are trying a quick shot and end up hitting an island. This can happen a couple of times in a row on the same target so I have to either select a new target or drag it to a closer better shot.

I almost never trust the auto aim, the time it aims automatically, as the name suggests, it looks so off to me, so i always have to adjust a bit everytime.
I actually never used auto aim for none of my shots, wether it be close or long range, no matter what, cuz i know my shells will go short that it hits the water, or high above the superstructure and hit nothing on the boat but the water around it instead.

Is it not safe to say that maybe WoWsL autoaim has a certain %age certainty built in so that new players don't become reliant on it? I was at the understanding after having 10+ hours under my belt that you shouldn't believe exactly where it tells you to aim MOST of the time.
You're still going to have to make fine tuning adjustments most of the time if you want to hit the enemy with a solid Salvo. This is especially true for slightly angled to well angled targets as it seems the game doesn't take that into account and instead opts to just try and tell you where to aim to simply "make contact" with the target.
TLDR: you can use it to make quick reads on the current standing of enemy placement but you'll still want to make fine adjustments every time.

This is news? Been playing for 3 years, and auto aim has always only ever been a rough suggestion. Always need to manually fine tune the aim.
Plus, the auto aim is just like the torp indicator. It’s only valid if the enemy ship is moving in a constant direction at a constant speed. As soon as speed or direction starts to change, you have to manually account for that with the aiming.
Don’t think this is some kind of conspiracy. The auto aim works like it’s supposed to, it just doesn’t work very well for precise shots against targets changing speed and direction.
