Dear Gunjan, As a frequent viewer and subscriber of your videos I can honestly say I have learned a bunch from you. I thank you for pouring in your own time to teach youtube about the different variety of openings and specialized games that you show (the most attacking game series); and also for those who say that your videos are inaccurate because there are other moves to be played you can just do your own analysis since there are so many lines but little time to put all of them in 1 video. Keep up the good work though. :)
hey gunjan...this comment is to say a special thanx to u......players in beginners level are very stubborn to not resign even with great material loss.....with this line....i achieved success in my 2nd game .....where my opponent didn't even bother to save the bishop by playing Nc3 and i mated him 4 moves earlier... i am having plans of using it in tournaments....thanx a lot again...
I did some research and found out that this is more commonly called nimzowitsch defence: lean variation. Thank you, GJ, for showing us this awesome system that gave me a spectacular mating attack! 1.e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 f5 3.exf5 d5 4.Bb5 d4 5.Ne5 Qd5 6.Qh5+ Kd8 7.Nf7+ Kd7 8.Bxc6+ Qxc6 9.Nxh8 d3 10.Nf7 Qxg2 11.Rf1 Qe4+ 12.Kd1 dxc2# 0-1
I certainly will. I played blitz game straight away with this strategy. I always have a problem in the early game, since I am self-taught in chess, I don't know how to counter usual openings. With this strategy, I can get to the middle game without most of the usual threats. I think my main problem is that in early most players who studied chess at least a little bit have a huge advantage against me.
Thakns for the instructive video. I use this opening a lot. First of all because indeed it confuses most of the white e4-openers. Also if white's second move is not Nf3, the Nimzovitsch defense is a completely sound opening which isn't that hard to learn and which has also the big advantadge of confusing white from the opening on. This video is to me great because it covers the declined lines as well. Great job!
Dear Sir...I often play French against e4 but after getting snipped g7 & h7 , it is quite difficult to control the game but after this video I intend to play Nc6 against e4 followed by all the variations, Thanks a million for this video!
Indeed, you played first queen-check. After that, the king goes to f1, followed by queen hidden check. Great one. In a blitz game (5 min) was difficult for me. Thank you Gunjan !!
Thank you very much GJ_CHESS for these inspiring videos i had a great fun playing colorado gambit...its my favorite opening as black vs e4 ....it allows me to play aggressive and control the center AS BLACK...also i had a lot of games that i won in first 10 moves due to opponents being unfamiliar with this opening and surprised thus falling into one of the traps...i dont know how theoreticaly sound is this opening but playing online on amateur level i can beat almost anybody and have tons of fun with this opening
Thanks alot for all the time and work you put in your videos. I like the way you explain how to encounter all the opponents possible moves. Keep up the good work!
Hi Gunjan! Thanks a lot for your videos! I started using the Nimzowitsch as standard reply against e4. And I looooooove playing the Colorado Gambit. Keep it up!
You have a very good communication skill, your teachings are very easy to understand. I already subscribed to your channel and I'm sure, I will learn a lot from you. Thank you very much.
maybe the best video i have seen yet. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the time and effort put into this. I bet you are scary over the board! Cheers from colorado.
Thank you; There are certain words in our talking that we do not need to mention them while we are explaining an act. The action is much shorter time than the talk. I am watching your videos, and i am learning from your work. I am certain many others do the same. Thanks again.
WOW!! Epic! So Aggresive. Much wow. Much impressed. Much confusion for Athens White side. I knew that gambits are the best way to play as black always though.
Thanks for the video. Perhaps I missed it, but I'd have thought one of the main lines would be 1.e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 f5 3.exf5 d5 4.Bb5 Bxf5 5.Ne5, and I didn't see any analysis of it.
This is quite interesting. I'm an aggressive player with a big interest in unusual openings and gambits. My main weapon against e4 is the Scandinavian Marshall gambit, which has many potential attacking lines of its own. Against d4 I've been rotating between the Chigorin, the Tarrasch, and the Albin Counter Gambit. Good to have another opening to mix it up. I did not know about this little gem.
What a pitty that most of the oponents dont play knight f3 but rather d4 - couldnt find an enlightning video here on youtube, hopefully seeing something from GJ chess soon? Thanks for this one - chess for adults!
I really enjoy your presentations. I do think there is one move order which causes major problems for black in the Colorado Gambit. (1. E4 NC6) (2. Nf3 F7-5) (3 PXP D7-5) (4. NH4 NH6) ( QH5 + N-F7) (5. BF1-D3 and Black has problems.
you are bloody awesome man, hope you make more of this kind of videos .i learned a lot from this. your efforts are greatly appreciated . more power to you .thank you very much.
GJ_Chess Usted es un gran maestro , para mi usted es EL GRAN Srinivasa Aiyangar Ramanujan DEL AJEDREZ, Yo aprendo mucho con sus lecciones gracias de verdad.
Fun opening. Just noticed @ 21:43 The White Queen can take the pawn to check and force a queen trade, but Black will still gain a piece edge by trading his queen and pawn for a queen and knight.
also if you look closely and analyze the game at 6:10, both bishops for black player are block hence executing the queen check on the h file later in the game seems rather foolish as it opens the game more for the black player - thanks again for a great video
Great job, Gunjan, keep on going! About this position on 14:03, after white's Qf5+ or Qg4+ black is forced to loose some tempos to regroup, meanwhile white can spoil our center or start pawn storm at queen's side. For instance, simple line would be 12.Qf5+ Kd8 13.0-0 Ne7 14.Qf3 c6 15. Be2 following either c3 and d4 or d3 and c4 or even a4, b4 and b5. Here (as well as in every position in this variation) black's pieces need some more moves to improve, we do not have any good place for our bishop.
I stand corrected, thank u however when I play this line as black, my computer responded at move 4 with N-h4 defending the pawn after 3... d7-d5. instead of Bf1-d3. I did manage to win the knight in exchange for three pawns. 1. e4 N-c6 2. Nf3 F7-5 3.PXP D7-5 4. nf3-h4 ng8-h6 5. Q-h4+ g7-6 6. PXP PXP 7. NXP and after Bc8-g4 whites Queen moved to G5 and I pinned it with Rook to G8.
1.e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 f5? 3.exf5 d5 4.d4 Bxf5 5.Bb5 e6 6. Ne5 Nge7 7. Qh5+ g6 8. Qe2 White has given the pawn back but has a perfectly good position and black doesn't have much of an initiative + black's king can't go kingside since there are weaknesses on f6, h6 and g5 and if he goes queenside white's pieces will already be developed there and white can attack with c4,b4,a4 or something like that while his king is safe on g2.
Nice gambit for black-thanks, I might try it in blitz games but it will never replace the mighty & awesome French defence against 1.e4 which remains my best option vs 1.e4 :-)
Gunjan u have solved all my worries in the opening tactics & strategies, i like ur style of teaching very much, pls tell me if white plays,1. e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 f5 3 exf5 d5 4.Bb5 Bxf5 5Nd4...pls tell me the possibilities i trust u and ur deep thinking thank u very much.
8:27 king has two options instead of one. D4. Black have to move queen D8 to keep pressure on checks. King takes C5. Rook E5. CHESS. King has two options, B6, B4 both ends up in CHECKMATE in 1 move.
Hmm. I think we differ on too many points, and in our confidence in them, to make for a productive discussion. Many thanks again for a thought-provoking video.
I'm sorry, but I do not speak English (thanks to the Google translator!); a small contribution with an old game. Colorado gambit refused: 1. e4 Nc6 2. Nf3 f5 3. Nc3 fxe4 4. Nxe4 d5 5. Ng3 e5 6. Bb5 Bd6 7. Bxc6+ bxc6 8. Nxe5 Qf6 9. Nf3 Bg4 10. O-O Ne7 11. d3 O-O = Boros - Krivos, Budapest 1925
Great video dear friend.... i loved your Budapest Trap variations ...!!!! Nice to see on RUclips an alternative and at the same time dynamic style of playing chess...
Nice of you to enlighten us with this opening, I have always loved gambits of any kind. At 6:10, consider Queen to E2 followed king side castle -> then maybe a bishop to c4 on the third move for white - can u elaborate on the possibilities
Nice one GJ. I would like to point out that this opening can transpose into others openings and visa-versa. Thus 1Nf3 f5 is the Dutch Defence (=Defense: American spelling) against the Reti-Opening. Often an ambitious White player will try 2e4 as a gambit try. Then whoopee! 2..Nc6 and Black has transposed into Colorado Gambit. Similarly some of the lines after 3 Nc3 and the knight later goes back to g3 transpose into lines OK for Black of the Scheilmann/Janisch defence to Ruy Lopez (=Spanish game). There has been some negative comments to your lines. This looks very unconventional but it is surprisingly close to sound if not sound.
At 9.17 cXe is recommended however black can actually play e5!! then if white plays eXc7 then black can play Qx c7 and all of a sudden the hidden traps are amazing I checked with deep engine analysis and indeed bravely sacrificing the pawns leads to great advantages for black....Gunjan please 🙏 I beg you try this line in some games yourself and feel the power hidden deep in the Colorado
I find the opening very exciting although I must admit it does seem a bit suicidal to me. I'm unconvinced of your version of the accepted gambit: 1. e4 Nc6 2. Nf3 f5 3. xf5 d4 4. Nh4 Nh6 5. Qh5+ g6 6. xg6 xg6 7. Qxg6 Nf7 8. Nf3 Rh6 (20:27) I'd suggest 9. Qd3. Black can chase the queen around a bit, but then if white manages to develop and castles on the queen's side, he is 2 pawns up, I doubt the awkwardness of white's position is worth that much.
Hello Gunjan. Amazing videos, especially the traps. Leaning a lot and I enjoy your enthusiasm. How should I reply when white plays: 1.e4 Nc6 2.f4 e5 3.Nf3 exf4 4.d4 Nxd4 5.Nxd4 and then plays Qh4+ right away without Bxc6?
awesome game... i am playing chess for many years of course for fun only but love to see videos like this but never seen this kind of tactic as black... It's very good for players like me ;)
GUNJAN very nice thing n, i enjoy watchin it again n again but want to ask u ; can u spell the name of FM u mention in last part of this video? thanx again 4 wonderful work ! ! !
The critical line in the Colorado gambit is 1.e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 f5 3.exf5 d5 4.Bb5! Bxf5 5.Ne5! when White has a strong hold on the e5 square. It is hard for Black to equalize in this line. I have analyzed the very sharp 5...a6!? 6.Nxc6 Qd7!? 7.Nxe7 axb5 8.Nxf5 Qxf5 and though White has the extra pawn, Black has a free and open game with pressure down the a-file. White has to be careful how he continues in this line.
Thanks for the series I play the Nimzovich defense as black so having this in my repertoire will really help me play better. I have one question at to ask as well at 24:58 what would you have played if your opponent had instead attempted to play g4 to trap your bishop as in the other line because it doesn't seem that you have the castling resource from the other line.
i really love this now, im using it 4 almost a month after i watch ur whole uploaded video of e4 repertoir, i am just amaze that i can now win in the 2000ratedchesscubeplayer by this opening specially in the nimzowitsch line, i hav no problem in the sideline of colorado but i lost a lot in high rated player with the main line, plz upload it soon im preparing for a local tournament and i will use this opening.. thanks a lot.. ur such a great help... plz keep it up! -FAN from philippines.
So much for kiddy tricks and trap, the sound line is to except the gambit and then instead of the trifling Bd3, play should continue d4, B.f5 Bb5, a6 B.c6, b.c6 c3,c5 d.c5,e6 Qa4, Qd7 Q.d7, K.d7 c6 when black best move is Kc8 and white has a lasting initiative!
I heartily disagree with ...c5? after c3. c5 is probably a good move later after Black actually develops his pieces. The line you've given here is far from forced...
Thank you again for your awesome videos! I love playing the Colorado or Budapest gambits. At 3:20 you recommend e5. Do you have a video (or know what this variation is called) for what you would recommend to play from there?
Dear Gunjan,
As a frequent viewer and subscriber of your videos I can honestly say I have learned a bunch from you. I TOO LIKE YOUR MOVES
White Pawn to e5: 5:09 (White accepts d6 9:09)
White Knight to c3: 13:00
White Bishop to c4: 14:31
White accepts gambit: 15:50
Thank you
Thank you for this opening. My rating is 333 and I beat a 672 rated player. I became class championship. It was all because of you.

+Jane Mathew dam that's a bad rating
Is that even a rating

@@dannygjk Thanks for filling me in there. I guess Jane should have clarified. As by default everyone perceives it as Elo...unless otherwise stated
Great job and great opening. I love how the accepted gambit capitalizes on the opponent moving their undefended queen out too early.

Thanks! Colorado Gambit is a nice addition to Nimzovich opening I've been working on!
By the way I should mention, I'm a huge fan of your dirty chess tricks series. I love your analysis, keep it coming ! :)

thank's alot, nice job, very instructif. I will try it on blitz games. this gambit will give me a motivation when playing black.

Excellent narration and traps. I like your presentation also. All the best and keep doing.
Thank you, my mistake was i played f5 before i played Qe4+. I had a monster game against my High school Chess professor with this opening.
8:27 king has two options instead of one. D4. Black have to move queen D8 to keep pressure on checks. King takes C5. Rook E5. CHESS.
King has two options, B6, B4 both ends up in CHECKMATE in 1 move.
Hi,
What would u suggest in following situation.
1. e4, Nc6
2. Nf3, f5
3. exf5, d5
4. Bb5
Thanks Mr Gunjan. I am learning chess in my old age
Nxe5 Qf6 9. Nf3 Bg4 10. O-O Ne7 11. d3 O-O = Boros - Krivos, Budapest 1925

great video. very aggressive line. i will study this line a bit more.
Nice of you to enlighten us with this opening, I have always loved gambits of any kind.
At 6:10, consider Queen to E2 followed king side castle -> then maybe a bishop to c4 on the third move for white - can u elaborate on the possibilities

Really a good line in colarado for black
I'll try that gambit from now on. I was actually tired of playing Caro Kann and French just as you said :b
Do you cover the variation 1. e4 Nc6 2. Nf3 f5 3. d4 ? White seems to counter the counter attack following fxe4 with d5
I find the opening very exciting although I must admit it does seem a bit suicidal to me. I'm unconvinced of your version of the accepted gambit:
1. e4 Nc6
2. Nf3 f5
3. xf5 d4
4. Nh4 Nh6
5. Qh5+ g6
6. xg6 xg6
7. Qxg6 Nf7
8. Nf3 Rh6
(20:27)
I'd suggest 9. Qd3. Black can chase the queen around a bit, but then if white manages to develop and castles on the queen's side, he is 2 pawns up, I doubt the awkwardness of white's position is worth that much.

Great video Thanks I appreciate you making these videos.

GJ, very good sharing. I have a question on 20.15 what if knight goes to f5 instead of f3. Tq
you and chess network are my heros
GJ chess you are very well at chess
Awesome video thanks so much for uploading..this will be a dangerous weapon in my toolkit :-)
thnx gunjan, instructive and fun at same time
So much for kiddy tricks and trap, the sound line is to except the gambit and then instead of the trifling Bd3, play should continue d4, B.f5 Bb5, a6 B.c6, b.c6 c3,c5 d.c5,e6 Qa4, Qd7 Q.d7, K.d7 c6 when black best move is Kc8 and white has a lasting initiative!
What a lesson, thanks a lot !
2.d4? do u have a response?
22:29 what if you're opponent played bishop to b5 instead of pawn to d4?
