Hey Jerome.. Uncle Marty here! A few quick comments about BEWARE THE BLOB (AKA SON OF BLOB). It was directed, believe it or not, by Larry Hagman (rereleased at one point as the film that JR shot)! He writes about the experience in his bio and teated the movie like a joke. He'd ask his Hollywood actor friends if they wanted to be eaten by the Blob so he kept feeding the darn thing. Much of the dialogue was improvised and it sees like most the cast was drunk. I saw it when I was 12 on TV and it scared the hell out of me because the characters would be doing a funny sit-com like scene and then be eaten by the Blob! I found the mix in styles very disturbing.. Godfrey Cambridge would be all goofy and funny then it would be like, "AHHHH! I AM DIEING HORRIBLY!!!!"
Hello 'Jerome', I just stumbled across your wonderful channel. I love old sci fi B movies of the 50s-60s. Robot Monster, The Slime People, Panic in the Year Zero etc You have a great energy and fun content. Keep em comin' Greetings from Detroit. 'Cousin Tim' from Michigan
Regarding the acting careers of the supporting cast: Stephen Chase (Dr. Hallen) played Dr. Frye, the rocket scientist who designs and pilots the Space Ark in "When Worlds Collide" (1951). The old man who becomes the blob's first meal is played by Olin Howland who also was cast in one of the very best of the classic science fiction movies, "Them!" (1954) He played the boisterous drunk who reveals the lair of the giant ants in L.A. Howland (often credited as Howlin) was a character actor who had plenty of work in Westerns and detective stories, usually playing a drunk.
I'm 66 and I saw this film in the movies in the mid 60's and it scared me to death. I remember our parents driving us home and it was dark and while I was waiting to walk in the house I just knew the blob was in the house. Next to the Exorcist which I also saw in the movies, the blob was the scariest movie of my very young life :)
When I was a kid I saw this on Saturday mornings sometimes (several local channels ran B 50s horror movies while the networks had cartoons). I had to get rid of my red quilt, no way was I sleeping with that.
Jerome you should review the “Son of the Blob” campy fun. The 80s remake is actually not that bad. Gore wise your talking jump scares and a few scenes of slasher elements, however it isn’t that bad. I’d say take a chance on it, I think it surpasses the original in some ways. Off topic you seem to like “Who done it” movies, have you seen “Murder by Death” if not I think you would enjoy it. If you like Clue you will enjoy it. Keep up the good work!
Fun, as usual, Jer. "Beware! The Blob," (made for TV, 1972) is also good campy fun. Directed by "I Dream Of Jeannie's" and "Dallas'" Larry Hagman. It's too campy and funny not to overlook its low budget flaws.
One of my absolute favorite movies! I love so much about this. The 50s monster movie masterpiece! Steven McQueen! And legit this movie used to freak me out as a kid and still does in some ways. That question mark ending. So good! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. And your rendition of the title song... perfection!
Your mom has great taste, and so do you! It isn't "Them!" and it didn't scare me so bad I never watched it again like "Invaders From Mars" (and stayed under the blankets up to my eyes through the better part of a Texas summer in those pre-air conditioner days), but it's still one of the greatest. And it has Steve[n] McQueen--I was 8-years-old a year later when "Never So Few" came out and as old as I am now, Steve, along with Frank Sinatra, Charles Bronson, Dean Jones, Richard Johnson, are STILL the kind of guys I want to be when I grow up (not to mention still looking for a woman who can say "Hell no" as hot as Gina Lollobrigida did). Which brings me to: Bless you, child, for not liking remakes! We DON'T need the blood and guts (whether horror, war, or western), we need suspense, and the kind of cast and crew who can create it, and can do their own work rather than reinterpreting someone else's. As always, thanks for a great review!
Oh my! How did I miss your review of, "The Blob." Watched this as a "classic horror movie" in theatre class in highschool (okay, just a bunch of us theatre students booking a classroom for a late Friday afternoon viewing). I had never heard of it, and absolutely loved it! And Steve "freakin'" McQueen, to boot! Watched the remake soon after, and didn't enjoy it as much.
The 80s version is well worth a look - it covers some of the same ground, but without irony and never mockingly. I have no idea if there's a 00s remake - I can't find it.
Totally one of my all-time fave horror movies when I was a kid, and still is to this day. A film which now is both funny and fun to watch, but as a little kid it indeed was scary! I agree with you that, in general at least, remakes of these classic horror films often leave a lot to be desired. It's not so much the gore that bothers me, but they're often simply just not as good. I did see the '88 remake, which I resisted seeing for quite a while, and it actually was better than I expected. You should check it out. BTW loved the singing! Thanks for reviewing another great classic!
Hi JW. I remember watching The Blob when I was in elementary school. During that time I also saw Caltiki The immortal Monster ( which was released a year after the Blob movie). Caltiki is a black & white, Italian sci-fi horror film dubbed into English. Both are good movies.
I'm starting to get into these classic artistic cinematic movies rather than watching these ridiculous movies that overuse cgi. They are definitely way better than the stuff that I used to watch.
So I just stumbled upon your channel and I got to say, it's nice :) I like the variety of films that you review. A little all over the place with the wide spectrum of films, but I think there is a nice quality there. Sort of gives an insight to the reviewer of these films. You keep a cheery and upbeat demeanor, and for the most part give a lot of praise to a film. Either though it is through characters, music, or cinematography. And even if said film is lacking in some of these departments (Space Amoeba), you still try to be positive about that. I think a lot of folks appreciate that. Too many folks and reviewers out there just tear things down all day. Apologizes if my comment is not specified to this one specific review of this film; but rather as a whole from the small handful of reviews that I sat down and watched the other night. Your scripts are intelligent and articulate. And they come of real, charismatic, and overall really genuine. So...well done :)
@@Weiselberry Making someone's day...that's equally as nice to hear :) But I did forget, since you have Amazon Prime, I was going to suggest maybe you would want to check out Caltiki, The Immortal Monster. It's a 1962 black and white flick that deals with an ancient Mayan god...who just happens to be a giant amoeba monster. It's got some interesting characters and some genuinely memorable scenes to it. Especially when the thing latches onto people and begins to absorb them. Idk, maybe you might get a kick out of it :)
Oh, you know how it is... :P No one can ever escape anything that's a zillion times slower than they are. Instead, it makes much more sense to stop, stare at it, and just scream your head off! LOL! But as you pointed out, we wouldn't have those campy moments to laugh at. I remember when I first watched the movie, I kept looking at Jane as she was familiar, and then recognized her as Aneta Corsaut, who later was best-known as Helen Crump, Andy Taylor's girlfriend from The Andy Griffith Show. She first appeared there in 1963 and ran all the way to the end 'till 1968. Now, let's give a warm welcome as Jerome Weiselberry performs her rendition of "Beware of the Blob". Take it away! :D

Singing ability too? Amazing! 😅 Fun review JW. Fun movie, and I enjoy the remake from the 80s. The Thing, The Fly, and The Blob all had great 80s remakes.
I LOVE all your reviews. I especially liked seeing and hearing you sing The Blob's theme song. I grew up watching this film, and it was a family favorite. I agree with you about the unnecessity of remakes, especially when all they add is more blood and guts.
I saw this movie when it first came out in Atlanta at the Paramount theater! I was in the 7th grade. I'm 77 now but back then I went with my 7th grade girlfriend Susan and my dad had to drive us to the Paramount theater downtown. We loved the movie but at first with that rock and roll music for the credits I thought it first I was at the wrong movie! Usually horror movies began with a very scary sounding orchestral fanfare!
Hello! New subscriber I came across your channel this morning and being a huge Godzilla fan I listened ( couldn’t watch I’m in parts delivery) but anyway I listened to your reviews of the Showa era Godzilla films and was delightfully entertained! It was very encouraging to see a casual viewer go to being a G fan! I liked your honesty they are not academy award winning films ( they were never intended to be ) they are escapism good, clean, extremely fun films it’s nice seeing someone appreciate them for what they are! Also being a fan of Universal and Hammer Horror along with 1950’s Sci-fi and Classic film altogether I look forward to seeing more reviews! Quick story about the first time my little brother and I watched The Blob, being born in the late 80’s we had the wonderful privilege of being 6-7 in the mid 90’s when TNT had MonsterVision that’s where we got to see most of our Godzilla/classic sci-fi films anyway we all gathered around the tv that night and watched The Blob my little brother was ( terrified ) by the end of the film and unknown to us our father had made red watermelon jello and preceded to chase my little brother around the house with it after the film lol! I apologize for the long read but keep up the good work young lady!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the Godzilla series. I hope to keep doing sci-fi/monster movie reviews on a somewhat regular basis, now that I've gotten into the habit. Ha, I love that story! :D
Great Review! Such a fun 50s Sci-Fi Horror film! I’ve seen The Blob a few times before & I’ve enjoyed it! I even like the 80s remake & thought it was a nice update to the material. And I think both movies have awesome music!
My cousins cat is named Mooch Miller after one of the teens in this..Steve's girlfriend in this is Andy Griffith's girlfriend ,Helen Crump,on the Andy Griffith show..always look forward to your reviews :)
Thanks for the great review. If you were lucky to see the original Blob in a movie theater, you might have noticed how vivid the color was on the film. I saw it a couple times when it was making its way around in "revivals" and it was really stunning how beautiful the color film was. Plus, all of the movie takes place at night so the lighting also gives the film a moody, sinister feeling. The blood red blob is really frightening, considering it was nothing more than a mixture of red dye and silicon.
I saw this in the theater as a child and it was the first movie to give me nightmares. Since I was seeing it in a theater, I think my nightmare started while my eyes were wide open still watching the movie. The nightmare just continued when I was heading home from the theater at night. I found it sneaking into my bedroom like a blob in every corner and took up residence in my head for several nights afterward. It may be one of the reasons why I avoid scary movies or at least do not enjoy them.
I saw it several years ago ( not in the cinema, of course). It is not so bad, but its real value is because it is Steve McQueen's first stellar role. I will search for that song! Sounds fun, as the song 'The Martian Hop ' can be used for The Day the Earth Stod Still.
I also saw THE BLOB wham I was a little kid, on a late night TV creature feature. I don't mind admitting that it scared the hell outta me. The sheer hopelessness of the situation - how do you kill it? Not just incapacitate it, but actually KILL it? And if the blob came to my house, where could I go? I don't have a fire extinguisher... can I just chuck ice cubes at it? My 8-year old brain was overwhelmed with these thoughts...
I'm sure I saw this in the 1960s on TV, but as to which year, I don't remember. I probably saw it between the ages of 8 to 11(1963 - 66), but maybe even younger. I liked the sci-fi/horror movies of the 1950s as far back as I can recall. Sometimes, my parents let me stay up late on Saturday nights to watch the "Creature Feature" that started after the late local news. Maybe that's when I first saw "The Blob." Btw, I didn't have nightmares. My friends and I loved watching the Dracula movies if they came on when we had slumber parties. Now you got me going....
Cool review! Have you seen The Stuff (1985)? That was one of the first movies I ever saw 🙃. It's about a shaving cream monster that controls people's minds. Btw, your vocal music recreations are amazing and I am amazed! 🤗
Haha, no, I haven't, but I noticed it listed with the "If you liked The Blob, you might like this!" recommendations. I couldn't tell if it was intended to be serious or not. :)
I just got through with 1972's *Beware! The Blob* - on an oddity scale of 1 to 10, a definite *11* Directed by Larry Hagman of *Dallas* fame who also has a brief cameo along with Burgess Meredith as hobos. Not seen the original yet but from your review it seems like the sequel is basically a 70's style reboot. Genuinely amusing in parts, in an off-beat way.
The Blob may actually be my first creature feature also, I saw the Blob and some of the more well known Universal Monster films around the same time, I believe I may have first seen Jason and the Argonauts during the same period, I guess it's kind of a creature feature, unsure, sword n' sandals monster movie, probably just a run of the mill fantasy film lol, I do like most Ray Harryhausen films. When I first watched these films I was very young but I'd beg my Mum to let me stay up and see them on TV and she'd give in lol. The Blob has one of three moments from three different films that shook me as a child, in the Blob it's when the Goop, or Blob I guess first attaches to the old mans hand, his reaction, the scream terrified me plus the meteor was steaming so I thought the Blob must be boiling hot. The other two are the brides of Dracula from Dracula (1931) emerging from their caskets, no score just the creaks of the lids as they opened, a dog barked outside and scared me half to death, the other was the Mummy (1932) when the appearance of said Mummy drives the archaeologist crazy with laughter from pure terror, it shook me, I was too young to understand but knew I'd remember it always. I love the theme song to the Blob, it's so odd and upbeat, like a track from a 60's Elvis film, Elvis is battling the Blob for the affections of Ann Margaret so sings and dances to this tune, the Blob also has a quiff lol. As you were mentioning the tune I was trying to remember it, your humming came in at the perfect time lol. ~ Thank you Ms Weiselberry ~
That was the part that scared me the most when I was little too! For the longest time I wouldn't even look at the close-up shot of the old man's hand. And I don't know what was worse, the blob eating him up or his pathetic cries and whimpers. :/ I think the other most frightening scene is when Steve glances at the doctor's window and sees the doctor being attacked by the blob and the blinds get all messed up. So freaky, especially because so much is left to the imagination. Supposedly they were going to show more in that sequence, but they decided not to push it with the censors. LOL, the blob with an Elvis 'do. :D
Jerome Weiselberry Yes!, for me it was his pathetic cries and whimpers too lol, it made it feel real, his pathetic cries were very convincing . Agree with you again about the attack on the Doctor, it was especially terrifying seeing it so young. I feel lucky to have been introduced to these films and allowed to watch them as a child, I think it helps to accept and appreciate an old film even if it'd be considered a tad ridiculous by today's standards, for me they're better in many ways. I'm going to watch the Giant Claw for the first time today, the creature in it looks like a giant mutant Turkey 🦃, I'm excited lol. ~ Thank you again Ms Weiselberry ~
Your review is pretty much spot on,well done indeed.I too have a soft spot for vintage movies, they have a certain charm and character which I can’t quite put my finger on but there’s something special about many of them, like they were made with a love of the art. I think it would be fun if you did the remake which to me was a very decent (and overlooked) horror film, though you might be hiding behind the sofa as it’s pretty grisly 😱
Great review. I have loved this movie since I was a kid. Your right the 27 year old high school kids are bizarre and the logic is out the window, but it's still a hoot. I watched another 50s sci fi movie today: The Deadly Mantis". Terrible but fun.
I remember seeing this when i was about 10, we had a vhs tape of it, my thoughts on the movie at the time was ..... Horrifying! but if there was a movie i would watch again, it would definitely be this one.
Well, if you think about it, the fact that the blob is RED is kind of GRUESOME. I mean, when it hatches out of that meteor and engulfs that first victims arm it's CLEAR, .. . then turns red after consuming people. The ONLY thing I have a problem with in this movie is that damn "I'll buy you a puppy" scene involving the heroine and her little brother "For my very own?!! WOW!!!!" . .. THAT scene just makes me CCCCRRRRRRIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGGGGGE!!!!
The 200's remake you might have been thinking of, might have been a "Creepshow 2" segment called "The Raft" where there is a oil slick, that eats some kids on a lake, after they were doing drugs. But that film was from 1987.
D___m You Weiselberry! You did it...for the last 24 hours, I've been doing that bum ba bum... ROFLOL Still, you can make a stinky old sci fi klunker sound worth watching again. Thanks.
This is one of my favorite films. I have a Criterion DVD of the film which I received as a Christmas gift from my grandma in 2018. I streamed the 1988 remake once, and I thought it was pretty decent. I just want to ask this, but do you have the film on DVD or did you stream the film before reviewing it?
Please check out the remake, it's fantastic and Shawnee Smith is an absolutely awesome Final Girl. It is grosser for sure, but the practical effects are sublime!
Did audiences back then have any inkling they were watching a future superstar in Steve McQueen? I wonder. I watch this movie every few years, mainly because it turns up on TV so frequently. It's kind of awkward and slow in places, but enough is there to make it entertaining.
Burt Bacharach, 1960's Pop/Lounge Music Maestro, helped write "The Blob" Theme! The Italian Film "Caltiki" continued the Blob's creature slimy mass Legacy....Beware~The BLOB!🔴
I happen to like this film a lot this is not a silly monster if you really think about it what away to die eaten alive and the pain that goes with it poor old man .😱😱😱
Hi there friend (May I call you friend?) lol I love this review! Very entertaining. In fact, you got all me all confused when you were still talking then all of the sudden I hear someone humming music at the same time. I had to pause the video just to make sure it was coming from here! LOL I have actually never seen this yet - I have always been wanting too - I need to rent more movies I guess...what better time than now? lol I didn't realize Steve McQueen was in it! Have a good Saturday! I know what movie I would recommend NOT to see and that would the 80s remake of The Fly - that has to be the goriest of them all - you wouldn't want to watch that! LOL In the meantime, I will probably get back into reading Jayne Eyre. I believe I am on Chapter 7 now. I am taking my time. God Bless =)
The theme song is bloody infuriatingly catchy and you're right to avoid the 1988 remake: it has one of the most graphic, nastiest deaths ever committed to celluloid. YUCK!
I loved the Blob. It was a cool movie. I got a good chuckle when the military dropped it at the North Pole in an attempt to keep it frozen. Yeah, that's not going to work with climate change on the rise. LOL!
Saw it in 61 when I was 7 and ran out of the theatre.

You are such a goof:) thanks for the song:)
I really enjoyed your version of the theme song!
This movie terrified me as a kid. It was the first memory I have of being scared.
My 8-year old brain was overwhelmed with these thoughts...
love this movie 🎉
Good evening,
Beautiful homage for this little science fiction film of the fifties !!!
Good continuation.
Marc, from France.
So true! As a kid seeing it, it was so vivid , real and very plausible! Still good today though if slightly less terrifying😁
I don't think I've ever seen the original one... Only the remake. I loved the thumbnail by the way. Lol
There's an entire list I could put together that would take you at least a month to get through. So many great movies in this genre.
The Blob* - on an oddity scale of 1 to 10, a definite *11*
Directed by Larry Hagman of *Dallas* fame who also has a brief cameo along with Burgess Meredith as hobos.
Watching The Giant Claw for the first time? Nice! You've got a real treat in store! :D
Excellent review.
Great review. I have loved this movie since I was a kid. Your right the 27 year old high school kids are bizarre and the logic is out the window, but it's still a hoot. I watched another 50s sci fi movie today: The Deadly Mantis". Terrible but fun.
Yes, "Beware The Blob" is good. Originally, "The Blob" ran in theatres a lot with "I Married A Monster From Outer Space".
I remember seeing this when i was about 10, we had a vhs tape of it, my thoughts on the movie at the time was ..... Horrifying!
but if there was a movie i would watch again, it would definitely be this one.
Steve and Jane, aka the world's oldest teenagers.
Movie Vigilante Excluding the actors from Grease.
This movie scared the crap out of me as a small child. For years I tried to avoid watching it when came on tv again.
By the way, you're cute.
D___m You Weiselberry! You did it...for the last 24 hours, I've been doing that bum ba bum... ROFLOL
Still, you can make a stinky old sci fi klunker sound worth watching again. Thanks.
My adorable niece nickname the blob blood jelly 😂❤
This is one of my favorite films. I have a Criterion DVD of the film which I received as a Christmas gift from my grandma in 2018. I streamed the 1988 remake once, and I thought it was pretty decent.
I just want to ask this, but do you have the film on DVD or did you stream the film before reviewing it?
This was my first horror movie as a kid. Thus started my life of poking things with a stick. Highlights so far: blackhawk helicopter and beached shark
Ooh, nice!
Am I.... am I hearing humming from somewhere?
Please check out the remake, it's fantastic and Shawnee Smith is an absolutely awesome Final Girl. It is grosser for sure, but the practical effects are sublime!
I watched the remake in 2021 and reviewed it in this video (first on the list): ruclips.net/video/qbG_DTtf-78/видео.html
Did audiences back then have any inkling they were watching a future superstar in Steve McQueen? I wonder. I watch this movie every few years, mainly because it turns up on TV so frequently. It's kind of awkward and slow in places, but enough is there to make it entertaining.
Maybe you can review The Tingler -- 1959 with Vincent Price??
I defy you and your attempt at to implant an ear-worm into my brain… DEFY! (Bom-bom-bom-bom🎶 darn!)
:D
You: Hums the theme from The Blob.
Me: Marry me!
You could see from this movie that Steven McQueen could command attention on screen.
Cherry pie has never looked appetizing since I saw this movie.
Good call Miss Weiselberry. Most eighties remakes of classics were dreadful.
Awesome Thumbnail . ❤️
You should try 'X The Unknown'. It pre dated this as a blob movie.
BTW, you skating, "The Blob" theme is the very definition of "Adorkable". :)
Burt Bacharach, 1960's Pop/Lounge Music Maestro, helped write "The Blob" Theme! The Italian Film "Caltiki" continued the Blob's creature slimy mass Legacy....Beware~The BLOB!🔴
The ending is a lot scarier now!
The 1988 remake of "The Blob" has not aged as well as the original.
dear lord, you love these movies? can you get any cuter? I just want to give you a big hug!! Have you seen War of the Worlds from 1953?
I did see it, but it was ages ago and I'm looking forward to checking it out again sometime soonish.
Well done 👏
You should look for a movie called "X - The Unknown". British version of The Blob - only radioactive!
Hey Jerome, if you want a song that will stick in your head watch “voyage to the bottom of the sea.” Greatest sci-fi song maybe ever?
I happen to like this film a lot this is not a silly monster if you really think about it what away to die eaten alive and the pain that goes with it poor old man .😱😱😱
The blob seems like something Ed Wood would make.
Yes, exactly--I've seen a little bit of The Fly and... yeah. That won't be happening. Good for you! Chugging right along. :)
@@Weiselberry Haha. I don't blame you! I have seen a few times but more recently it is hard to watch anymore lol
This movie has a catchy theme song!
While you are at it review a copy of "The 4D Man". An interesting premise with great acting by Robert Lansing.
Terror has no shape
Literally
J'ai adoré " the blob" mais moins le remake de 1988
1:26 Squarely on the mouth!
Beware of the Blob!
I wonder if Godzilla Vs Hedorah took inspiration from this!
Um...no.
Liked and subscribed! :)
Thank you!
LOL!
Son of the blob was kind of a copy of the original, just a bowling ally, not a movie theater. It was a bit mkre cheesy for sure.
Fun movie the sequel was terrible 😊
