I like the idea that all of her “internal monologues” were actually said out loud and that’s why Self-Insert-kun hadn’t been getting the “obvious” outward “hints.”
That every time she’d say something like “ugh, don’t get the wrong idea! I don’t actually want to be here with _you_ !” She would almost immediately counteract that by saying, out loud, “gah! Why did I say that?! He’s so cute and patient and I’m blowing it!”
And that’s why SI-kun keeps calling it a date despite her vehement protests, she keeps saying (thinking he can’t hear) “oh my god! He thinks this is a date! And he wants todo it again some time!!”
