    I deleted my earlier comment which was pretty negative about this unit. I’ve been playing with it and it’s actually pretty awesome. The CarPlay feature works flawlessly and the connection is quite fast. Probably about 20 seconds. It has additional RUclips and Netflix connectivity but you will have to allow hotspot if you want to use Netflix and RUclips outside of Wi-Fi and that hotspot will eat up your data. Also, it’s not going to be really high definition, maybe 720p or probably lower. Lastly, if you want Netflix and RUclips, you are going to have to input your password, etc. directly. I wouldn’t trust this app running on Chinese software with your credentials. Chinese software is notorious for using spyware just like TikTok so be careful. Outside of that with basic CarPlay it’s pretty awesome but maybe over priced. Cost me $159 so maybe look at cheaper alternatives.

    I tried this unit with mixed success. Setup was easy, seamless. However, when I enter the car and start up, it can take as much as five minutes to connect. In addition, the unit cut out periodically, although when it did it would also re-connect itself within a minute or two. I also found that my phone became excessively warm to the touch and wore down very fast, down to 20% in about four hours. I have tried to contact the company, but so far, no reply.

    i bought a carlinkit video box for traveling. we love it! i bought it for when i travel with my children, but yesterday we went to my father’s house 3 hrs away and my husband decided to watch a movie(i was driving and listening to it) on our drive home yesterday while stuck in traffic. it made a irritating time for my husband go by so much faster and i didn’t have to listen to his complaining, which made for a much nicer 3 hour drive.

    • @jonsauce

      And if I’m being 100% honest this unit has issues as well, not so much about disconnecting or anything like that, but it does lag a couple seconds to transfer information at times, so it can be a little slow. If your car has steering wheel controls those are lost while using this device because it mirrors Apple CarPlay, it doesn’t directly connect wirelessly. Not sure if those are along the lines of what you’re experiencing with the car link kit

    I have a 2020 Toyota Corolla. I presently use a CarPlay2Air Wireless Adapter. I love it and I CAN use my steering wheel controls (at least for volume. Haven’t tested anything else). Will I be able to use my steering wheel controls with this. I did just order it but now I’m wondering.

    Like the concept of these little devices but is it possible to get a real road test review. I seem to notice that everyone that reviews these wireless car play/android auto devices do so in their driveway or garage while connected to their home wifi. No offense but I could careless how it operates sitting still or near a home wifi connection. I've seen that the more expensive version has 4G capability but this one relies on wifi. So how well does Waze or Google Maps function wirelessly connected? the more expensive version also lets you download to the device from the play store I believe, not that I need to do that but is it an option on this one?

    • @jonsauce
      @jonsauce  Год назад

      I get where you’re coming from. But it’s hard because 1) you can’t really play real music or watch movies and and capture it properly through video. Plus there’s copyright issues.
      2) it’s not interesting at all. Just recording yourself with the phone connected and driving. I think you’re in the minority that wants to see it in use. Most people just want to know how it works.
      You can use your hotspot while driving. It’s like any other device. The movie/video/song loads and will keep playing even if you lose your connection, until you exit out of the application. If you lose your connection and try to load NEW media obviously it won’t work.
      I don’t most people will buy the more expensive option. Might as well buy an iPad or something instead of using a stock headunit. This is for watching stuff in a pinch , on your break, a quick trip, stuff like that. At least that’s what I’ve used it for. I definitely don’t use Netflix or RUclips while driving lol. Just a device to show off and of course use wireless car play for

      @@jonsauce Appreciate the follow up and no I'm not asking for an entire video of driving,, I agree no one would wanna see that for sure. Just maybe 30-45 seconds of using maps and skipping thru music tracks 5-10 sec wont get you a copy right or even using some copy free music. I appreciate the review and you do well with it. Just would like to know more on real time functioning. I don't plan to use Netflix or RUclips while driving but seeing the thing function and features while on the go would be very helpful.
      Thanks again for the vid

    Thank you so much for reviewing this in a GR-Z (which is my portmanteau of the next gen twins lol) I’m curious if you know whether or not the AI Box Lite will also work fully in a 2020 BRZ, are the head units similar enough?
