The only problem with perfection is that once it's done, it's done. The being in question is stuck like that forever and to alter them alters the perfection they have. Which ironically enough is an imperfection in an of itself.
What perfection? They are just empty vessels, carying what little remains of the people they once were. Their souls have been consumed, wich means they have been consumed. Necrons are just the deadly echoes of a race dead eons ago, not too different from a booby trapped city from a lost civilisation.
My favourite lore about the Necron Warriors is that they somestimes "scream" when destroyed. Some think it is a warning to our necrons. But a more disturbing notion is that it is the only thing that necron remembers from its mortal life. The ability to scream in horror as oblivion takes them.
I bloody love necrons. When I first started getting warhammer minis i saw the skelly bois and thought “an ancient robot race with an unknown number of reinforcements who are just waking up from a long power nap from a huge galactic war they lost and their Egyptian themed????? Sign me the fuck up.” Thus my warhammer debt started.
They are absolutely awesome, but they didn’t lose the War in Heaven. They won after killing the Old Ones and enslaving the C’Tan, but their numbers were depleted. They knew they couldn’t beat the Aeldari (who were the prominent ruling faction, at the time), so they went to sleep until the Eldar population dwindled enough for them to rise and retake their empire.
@@nicksciencerat In the Table Top: a single Necron warrior can relatively easily be killed by an Astartes, their weapons are usable. As cool and scary as Necrons are, you shouldn't forget that within each metal cage lies the soul of a living being, one destined to live, feel, and die. The fact they cannot do any of this torments them to no end.
Not entirely, souls were lost to the C’Tan as part of the biotransference, only those with particularly strong personalities or the royalty given higher quality machinery maintain a semblance of their former personality, and the hollowed feeling that remains plagues those who can remember having a soul to no end.
Well, you say souls, but the whole reason they’re machines now is because they chose to sell them to the C’tan in exchange for immortality. Came at a cost, of course. The hierarchy of the Necron dynasties decides how much autonomy each Necron has, and anything below an Overlord is nearly or completely an automaton.

Then after the 3 races can start fighting each other again.
Well they are debatably more perfect than humanity, because in the end emotions just get in the way of maximum efficiency. Of course, then it’s not really living anymore.

Tyranids HATE necrons. Their ships actively avoid planets where they know they are there. The main reason for this is, even if the Tyranids win against a world of Necrons, they've gained nothing as there is no biomass for them. And so will have actually lost as they can't replace the biomass lost from fighting the Necrons.
