Another big thing to note is that the new Sequoia went back to a solid rear axel when the past generation was independent suspension, the Tahoe is running an independent rear suspension. Both are great looking SUVs. If you are going to off road more often the Sequoia would be the better choice for the rear locker and articulation of the solid axel, if you would like a smoother ride and occasionally need 4WD then the Tahoe is great too.
@@MarkrrO Toyota has always been known for their reliability but for these new turbo hybrid engines it might be too soon to say. Hey man, I was there yesterday. Saw the new Sequoia for the first time. Third row situation was a real disappointment, especially when seeing in person. Most people seemed to have the same reaction.
I'll wait for the next gen 4runner as my wife loves my 5th gen to death. This was a woman forever attached to her little sports cars and now wants the TRD Pro route.
Just picked up the Capstone. I will say that the cargo space is limited and awkward. The board it comes with is a little flexible. Makes you wonder how much you can rest on it. The room in the 3rd row is much better than everyone is saying. I am 6'2 and just fine in the back. Don't let that be a concern. The AC system is only adequate though-a real bummer. The heated and vented seats also in the second row are nice, but don't think your back-side is going to be ice cold in the summer, it will cool down slightly. Comfort is very nice. I would say for under 100,000 its worth it. Just always remember that it is a Toyota and the reliability is going to help you sleep at night.
I believe the reason the seat organs are exposed in the 2nd row of the Tahoe is because the second row slides while the Sequoia’s does not. I think it’s kind of nice that you can option out the Tahoe vs HAVING to get everything on the Sequoia forcing you into a 10 grand upgrade if you want to go off-road! Both nice trucks! Only way to know if they are off road or better than eachother is to take them there! Can’t wait to see a real off-road head-to-head on these two. Also, does the Sequoia have a manual locking diff? The z71 has a mechanical I believe? Although too bad it doesn’t take the electronic locking diff out of the at4 Yukon! Overall I think the Tahoe looks ALOT nicer for daily use! I think it could probably stand up to the TRD off-road too!
Our family was going to order one of trd pros but after having so many issues with our 22 hybrid Sienna we chose the new Yukon Denali. Here in Canada the Yukon was $97 k. At least we got $10k more than we paid for it on trade.
Hands down Sequoia for most of the obvious reasons people buy Toyota's for. But the main thing is I would like my $80000 vehicle to be worth More than 60k the moment I drive off the lot lol. GM depreciate wayyyyyyy too much. Yota goes up in value often times. Oh and it's a way better off roader
Having driven both, I think the Tahoe is the better all around SUV with significantly more cargo space and a nicer interior. That being said (and since the final call would rest with Mrs JAX), we no longer need all the space we once did. But for what the TRD Pro costs (and is marked up to) you can get magna ride and air springs on the Tahoe, which gives it a pretty fantastic ride. Reliability? Well, it’s a wash for me since the Toyota powertrain is new. I think the jury is still out for both gens on that.
Im a huge Toyota fan and Im sure it will be a solid, reliable SUV (own an 08 with 200K trouble free miles on it) but I must admit I like the Tahoe for its looks, interior comfort, space, quieter cabin, 0:02 and ride far more than I do the the Sequoia. To me the third row, lack of cargo space, and that shelving system marketed as “flexible” (lets call BS when we see or smell it) is a no starter for me. Clearly if you want to more serious off roading the sequoia would serve your needs better but for 98% of owners, both would serve their mild off roading needs. It will be interesting to see 2024 refreshed interior of the Tahoe.
I think the Sequoia would be a more reliable vehicle in the long run. Chevy is known for mechanical issues. But my neighbor got a new Tahoe last year and he's really happy with it.
If off-road capability was my main goal, I would pick Sequoia. For everything else though, I like the Tahoe. The Toyota just looks odd inside, the GM has a much nicer interior. Also, for what is essentially an appearance package, Tahoe comes with some pretty legit recovery points. It's a shame Toyota can't be bothered to do these.
This is a great comparison. Thank you for showing us this, Jon. Question in general, the Tahoe appears to "trick" you into thinking the seats fold flat, since the cargo area is much higher already. It this just my impression? The third row doesn't seem to fold any lower than they already are. So, it seems as though the Sequoia has a lower cargo area, and the shelf provides you with a level area, matching the third row. Plus, as you said, the area underneath the second row is much cleaner on the Sequoia.
I have to agree with some of the other comments here JON, neither, way to over priced, both look great and both have nice features, but (realistically) it's not worth the investment at that price point. My personal views. Great run down on both, thanks. :)
You walk between the 2 back captains chairs to get to the 3rd row in the Tahoe. You don't have to try to fit like in the Toyota. Also, why didn't you go over the fact that the Tahoe had the touch screens for the back passengers? But for off road I'd pick the Toyota. For everything else the Tahoe.
TRD Jon, I have that Tahoe. The air suspension is really nice. It gives it at ~ 2 inch lift. On the Highway you are at the same height of semis or lifted trucks. It comes down when you exit. On 4 low it goes up another inch. Gas mpg is worse than advertised, but it appears that’s the same case with the Tundra/Sequoia. I’m averaging 13 city 16.5 hwy 14 combined on regular. To me the part time 4x4 is a deal breaker for the Toyota.
oh i was here today at DC auto Show :) did a TRD PRO test drive and found that ride was pretty stiff which i did not like and also did not like the V8 Fake noise in the cabin .
Wish Toyota would offer a non-hybrid version with a true fold-flat cargo area. The current cargo arrangement is a deal-breaker. No way I’m buying a Chevy though. Hopefully Toyota comes up with a better solution in a future refresh. Until then, I’ll keep my 4Runner.
Both are nice but the issue is the no ground clearance independent rear suspension on the Tahoe. Driving behind the new Tahoe, you can see the rock knocking lower rear suspension arms. I would personally have the solid rear axle on a true 4x4.
You are so RIGHT, this current gen Tahoe/Suburban was almost perfect, but they RUIN it for me with the Low Rear-Axle Ground Clearance. And it's interesting how Toyota actually went the opposite direction with this new Gen, its as Solid Rear Axle, while the previous Gen have the Independent Rear Suspension, which was still better than the Current Tahoe's. But But, the Tahoe may not be that bad because I heard that the Suspension height is adjustable from a push of a button, so maybe that solve the problem.
Springs and solid rear axle is better (especially off the road). Air springs are cooler to show big lift - but in real world in highest setting is stiff and no articulation, electronics needs to do a lot to compensate it. These 3rd seats battery need some space. I would but Sequoia. I love the hybrid toyota's powertrains.
The Sequoia you want, will be 90k. It’s Toyotas way of selling the LC to a broader American public. I’ve owned a Tacoma for 12 years. Traded it in for a Tahoe.
Battle of the base models is an interesting topic but I'm definitely interested about what the comps are for the AT4 and TRDPro models. I'd take the base model sequoia but it's hard for me to see myself taking a trdpro over the AT4's

Great video and nice comparison. If Toyota did their R&D, then the Sequoia would out last the Tahoe, and for that, I would pick the Sequoia. Chevy just not as good as they used to be.

Yeah why not. Throw in a Porsche to race at the track just for your me days too. LOL,, Don't forget to purchase that 2nd Vacation home while you're at it.
Tahoes are a dime a dozen for a reason....just like 4Runners....because everyone likes them 😂😂😂....but I have yet to see a Sequoia TRD PRO on the road yet and I live in LA, the car capital of the country 🙄....there is a reason why the Tahoe and the 4Runner have not changed much over the years, they don't need to....people just keep buying the same old platform over and over...forever. Toyota and Chevy have definitely received high profits from both designs....decades of free flowing profits for both. This generation of Sequoia may or may not break even for the initial design costs...maybe it will be a loss for Toyota in the end....
Usually love Toyota but hard pass on this , they rushed it and the battery packs is so stupid how they raised all the seat to keep the cooling inside. Also the fit and finish is disappointing by a big mile. Im not a Chevy person but better then Toyota in this case.
Toyota built the vehicle that RUclips influencers wanted. Not what real drivers wanted. Must haves big fancy iPad due dad thing a ma giggies. Cameras every where because I can’t take my eyes of the imax screen in my vehicle or turn my head. Safety this safety that because I’m to busy watching my imax screen while driving down the road.
Auto start on the Tahoe is free for the life of the vehicle…. Come on Toyota…
Tahoe has rear entertainment screens. This is a huge miss for the Toyota. If I had young kids, that would be a no brainer.
Usually love Toyota but hard pass on this , they rushed it and the battery packs is so stupid how they raised all the seat to keep the cooling inside. Also the fit and finish is disappointing by a big mile. Im not a Chevy person but better then Toyota in this case.
GM interiors are always generations behind. The Tahoe exterior looks real good though. Just can't stand the interior.
Who is taking a 80k care offroad!!
Off-road vehicles with no clearance , street tires , low ground effects. $80000 price tag add another 5 to 10 to make off-road capable. Need to stop calling these off-road vehicles. Most buyers of these will come to off roading is if they accidentally drive on the grass backing out of driveway. Let’s just call this what it is an American status symbol. No where as good as 70 series Land Cruiser.
Toyota Sequoia baby looks better is better and will last for ever not a 5 year vehicle
Chevy V8 Toyota V6...
And?
None...I hope even very well-off people don't pay this much for one.
cannot handle red interior
Let’s be real here….people who buys sequoia trd pro are not going to take it off roading 😂
BIG EGO PRIDE $80K CAR! THAT'S ALL!
Chevys interior look like they have for years. Nothing new there. Toyota quality over Chevy any day. Reliability? Toyota? Resale value? Toyota! #NoContest
Grandma interior
What?
😂
@@drewkane8052 well which one are you talking about man? Definitely not the Toyota. That Chevy Looks like a piece of shit lol
@@terrynichol577 lol. Of course I’m taking about the Chevy. Other then the screens the interior is straight out of the 90’s
Dang I can’t wait to be a grandma then.
Chevy looks like junk in comparison the choice is obvious for me
