In France a bottle of oat milk is around 2euros, the only milks that cost 4euros are hazelnut ones so it surprised me that oat milk is so expensive in the video
Many countries subsidies their farmers who produce milk or meat. If they'd subsidise alternative milk products, you'd see the price fall to be about the same as cow's milk (or even cheaper, since cows need to graze on this stuff to make their milk)
Everything that's importented in relatively small quantities is bound to be pricey. Almost all of the Oatly milks are less than 2€ in the grocery stores around me. But I do live in Sweden.
Agreed.....The problem with this analysis is that it is only looking at a few constitutes of milk which does not tell the entire story of milk. Its other constituents such as hormones, sugar and so on make it radically bad for our health.
Salem Morelli Claiming that milk is bad due to hormones is just factually incorrect - it’s a fatty sweet liquid, bad enough in and of itself. No need to make up frankenscience like monster hormones to claim that milk is unhealthy In big quantities. Drink water!
I tried Oatly, as well as oat milk in general , for the first time 3 days ago. My usual almond milk brand was all out, thanks to corona, so I figured I’d get Oatly. I’ve been wanting to try oat milk for a while anyway. As soon as I got home, I tried it by itself. and OH MY GOD! I instantly fell in love!
It's unbelievable that in 2019 still some doctors state that cows milk is healthy. Plant baased milk is not only a more sustainable, torture free option, but it is also way healthier than cows milk. How can a doctor say drinking hormones, pus and blood is a better option? You can watch "What the Health" on Netflix or read many research online about it.
Oat milk probably has more carbs and might spike blood sugar. The fat in milk tends to block sugar absorption, but I'm lactose tolerant, so I have no problem with milk........btw, most humans are intolerant to bean sugar, but many still eat beans.

non-GMO is the stupidest advertising ploy ever designed. Genetically modifying plants allows for much greater, higher-quality yields with literally 0 negative consequences. GMO's are probably our best bet at tackling world hunger and GMO crops are better for the environment as they can provide the same amount of food in a smaller area than non-GMO crops. ThermaFreeze It has been proven that non-GMO plants yield fruits/vegetables with higher nutrient count. I found out about Oatly while I was visiting England in 2017, where it was served as a plant-based alternative at virtually every coffee shop. I was thrilled when I saw that it finally came to the U.S. I work at a grocery store; it sells out so quickly when we get it back in stock. I see people buying four or more cartons at a time. (Although I'm guilty of the same--I always keep my fridge stocked since I use it in my lattes every day.)
They also have a creme fraiche for cooking and a liquid cooking cream 👍🏻 and ice cream which the chocolate one was the best vegan chocolate ice cream I ever had
I'm from sweden and drink oatly regularly. I had no idea it was so popular abroad, not really surprised though because it's tasty and goes better with cereal than milk does. It also has better shelf life which is a nice added bonus.
My first time trying Oatly was at a hip coffee shop around the corner of my place. It was Intelligencia coffee house. I ordered my almond mocha and they said they didn't carry almond milk anymore, only Oatly. I live in Chicago. I tried and and I was HOOKED!! 😍
I remember how I came across Oatly the first time. It was through a local coffee shop in Berlin in 2016. It was hard to buy it in a shop at that time. In 2017 I could buy it in a local Bio store. Then in 2018 it disappeared from Denns Biomarkt distribution. Then for a while I could not buy it anywhere, unless i would order it online. Recently, mid 2019, they started to sell it in Rewe supermarket, but it would sell out quickly, so if you come in the end of the day, you would not get it. A few weeks ago REWE picked up on the fact that it is the most demanded plant base milk in the store, so they started to put crates of it instead of just a few packs on the shelves. While other milks are standing on the shelve just in numbers of 10-12 cartons, the Oatly barista milk stands on the floor in big carton boxes, so there is at least 50-60 cartons there.
For some reason none of the biomarkt stores here like Denn's will stock oatly. They stock every other plant-based milk from other brands but not oatly. I've only seen the Barista edition at Edeka and Konsum . Not even Rewe stocks them.
99,99 % of Scandinavian people who have been drinking milk for hundreds of years CAN tolerate lactose. The lactose intolerance as an argument is just a marketing lie in these European countries. If you claim globally - then yeah - Asians, Hispanics etc. most probably can`t digest lactose.
Attila Fekete you are right but still globally 64% of people cannot tolerafe lactose. And if you go to asia countries they are crazy for dairy products. Its totally bad for them
@@atka48 I grew up in Hungary as well, used to drink over a litre every day until i was 20 with no problems. Unfortunately there is a gene responsible for lactase enzyme production which switches off after puberty in a large number of people, even in Europe. If you want to go into the details, the issue here is not lactose intolerance at birth, which really affects just a small part of the population, but lactase persistence, the continued activity of the lactase producing gene. Since most people in Europe grew up drinking milk, they dont even know that in adulthood they face these kind of problems. Many times they just say "coffee makes my stomach go bad", when in reality it is the milk not the coffee. You are right that in Europe the population is more likely to have lactase persistence, but unfortunately genetics is more complicated than saying "I am from this region so I'm fine".
The fact Oatly has manufacturers in the US now concerns me. I drank only Oatly when I lived in US for a year because I read a lot about agriculture and food standards in the US and how lax they are. In particular I read that wheat and grain products are sprayed with really harsh chemicals that are FDA approved. So I assumed Swedish quality oats would be GMO free and paid the extra cost for what i thought was shipping. Anyone have any idea about this and whether the US Oatly manufacturers adhere to the same standards as the Swedish ones?
Yes. I don't blame you for being skeptical. "Amurdica" aka America is a very corrupt nation which is why a lot of it's citizens are currently rebelling against their government.
As a swede this is at every place in sweden. I love it and always have it at home. None of my friends drink cow milk anymore and im so proud to be a part of this change:)
maskenmakkan As I wrote none of MY friends drink cow milk. Did I ever say all Swedes drink oat milk? Nope. I just stated that in my tiny group of friends no one is into cow milk. At every cafe they offer milk substitutes, that’s the change I’m proud of. You need to re-read my comment.
The first time I heard about Oatly was through some random german vegan videos lol. They were saying it's one of the best plant-based milks they've had so i decided to try it. Now I stock up on Oatly whenever Target actually has it out on the floor.
When she said ‘is it as good as cows milk?’ in terms of nutrition... as if cows milk is the best you can get and so good for you. 😂 What a joke. Cows milk is for baby cows. 🐮 Get your 5grams of protein somewhere else as Oatly has less fat, less sugar and contains fibre for the same amount - based on the figures you show. 🙉
Exactly!! I cringed so hard when the nutritionalist said that cows milk is the most healthy...like wtf. You don't need to be a nutritionalist to understand how it's not meant for us to consume.
Since I discovered Oatly, it has been a staple in my pantry - especially the barista edition, I can’t imagine my morning cappuccino or cornflakes without it!
@@loumarmit4014 That is true, but it only makes sense if the washing and refilling site is close to the retailors and the customer. Otherwise, the logistics of this process is too expensive both in money and emissions.
As a fellow barista, I love working with oat milk. Here in Australia, we use too many types of alternative milk from different brands, but Oat milk has been a trend for the last one and a half year, and Oatly is defo one of the reason. The milk itself has the nut flavour that people like, but not too overpower people can still taste the coffee (and coffee culture in Australia is crazy), which is already greater compare to the other popular alternative milk like Almond and Soy. It's creamy texture also helps the brand to be better than others like Minor Figure, and the quality of the milk is very consistent. Last but not least, as someone who used to drink milk before realizing that I had lactose intolerance, I won't argue how much I love Oatly.
I have histamine intolerance and my partner is lactose intolerant and their organic product is the only milk we can both have. The taste also isn’t off putting like I find most dairy alternatives. I really like it. It’s interesting to hear that it’s been such a fad coz I totally didn’t know that
I’m so glad that substitutes like oat milk and soy milk are becoming mainstream - I’m allergic to dairy, and there really weren’t that many substitutes when I was young. I’m also allergic to nuts, so but milks are off the table for me as well. Now there are so many more options for me to try!
After learning how cow milk actually made and collected, and the fact that i'm lactose intolerant, I moved onto plant based milk, and really enjoy the milk. My go to milk is a mixture of black soybean, almond, and hazelnut of a korean brand, pretty good.
@@jonathansoto3203 I never understood this argument. So what if it's made for baby cows? Our bodies can still digest it and take in all the nutrients, so what's the issue?
Same thing happened here in Germany with the introduction to Oatly milks in the market a few years ago. I've been a vegetarian since 2010 and I'm all for plant based milks and yogurts. Even before Oatly appeared there were tons of plant based dairy options but the Barista milk is a step ahead. Now it's the only thing hubby and I buy. It's always sold out at the supermarkets so when we spot a few boxes still standing at the shelf, we just take them regardless whether we still have some at home lol. I think everyone acts the same way. People at the registers with 4 or 5 boxes of Barista and when you couldn't find any you think "well, I was too late then" lol Good stuff!
Asian guy: "It tastes bland." LOL! One main reason oat milk won't be as big here in Asia. Here it's all about sweet milk hence all the cases of Diabetes.
Some vegan milks are quite sweet. Almond isn't one of them but some oat milks are quite sweet. Oatly specifically isn't. All the hazelnut milk I have had was sweet too.
I've made my family cook with oatly for over a year now and other plantbased alternatives! I first started because of the correlation acne has to diary, but continued because it makes my whole family feel better overall :) I live in Sweden and I honestly just thought they had English on their package to be edgy hahah no idea they sold their products in other countries
Definitely have a soft spot for Oatly, love the creamy taste, and how they highlighted the benefits of Oats for the environment. The first time I tried it was at a pop-up at Boxpark where they gave out free coffee w/ Oatly and it was soo creamy and yummy! There also happened to be a giant blow up breast above their Oatly wall-art, which raised the question of where people should be getting their milk and normalizing breast milk. Not sure if that was actually part of their campaign..but it was impactful and memorable nonetheless!
I love the video:) but there is one thing that needs to be set straight. There is a HUGE misconception about dairy milk being healthy. It is not. There now is an abundance of evidence showing that the dairy industry has made absolutely fantastic advertisement, but it is NOT TRUE! It not only has been proven to for example even lower the adoption of calcium instead of providing the body with calcium, it has also been proven that the Casein, the main protein in cows milk is increasing the risk of getting cancer. Especially prostate cancer. Oat milk is 10/10 times the healthier choice. Not to mention the environmental advantages and of course the ethical side. Please do some research if you are interested and check where information comes from... I have done that and I was shocked about how clear this topic actually is.

Many countries subsidies their farmers who produce milk or meat. If they'd subsidise alternative milk products, you'd see the price fall to be about the same as cow's milk (or even cheaper, since cows need to graze on this stuff to make their milk)

I don’t remember the last time I bought “regular” milk from an animal. Plant based all the way, non-GMO and organic if possible.
FBI plant
non-GMO is the stupidest advertising ploy ever designed. Genetically modifying plants allows for much greater, higher-quality yields with literally 0 negative consequences. GMO's are probably our best bet at tackling world hunger and GMO crops are better for the environment as they can provide the same amount of food in a smaller area than non-GMO crops. I purposefully avoid brands that advertise as being non-GMO as they are taking advantage of people's ignorance and are avoiding necessary progress.
ThermaFreeze It has been proven that non-GMO plants yield fruits/vegetables with higher nutrient count. Organically grown vegetables are not treated with insecticide and other chemicals that don’t wash off with water. Great quality food such as organic and non-GMO is more expensive compared to conventionally grown food, but when you compared it to how valuable your health is, its a small price to pay.

I LOVE YOU OATLY YOU CHANGED MY LIFE YOU DESERVE ALL GOOD THINGS OATLY FOR THE TAKEOVER ALL 2020 BAYBEEEEE!
Correction “most people can’t tolerate lactose”.

This is super interesting, I live in Shenzhen and Oatly is everywhere!
