  • Tucked away in the tranquil town of Umrangso in Dima Hasao, Tularam Cave is a site steeped in history and mystery. This lesser-known landmark is tied to the legendary Tularam Senapati, a prominent leader who fiercely resisted British colonial rule in Assam.
    The Legacy of Tularam Senapati
Legend has it that Tularam Senapati, known for his unwavering spirit and leadership, used this cave as a hideout during his resistance against British forces. The cave, shrouded in folklore and local tales, serves as a testament to the region’s rich history of defiance and resilience.
Its natural beauty and historical significance make it a unique spot to explore. Visitors can wander through its dark passages and imagine the tales of resistance that once unfolded within its walls.
    When to Visit
The best time to visit Tularam Cave is during the cooler, dry months from October to March. During this period, the weather is pleasant, making it ideal for exploration and trekking in the surrounding areas.
    Where to Stay
We checked out several homestays and resorts in Umrangso. Lakeside Homestay is hands down the best managed, with a great location away from the crowded city center and a view of the lake, big spacious common areas and modern furnished rooms.
    How to Get There
Umrangso is well-connected by road and lies approximately 112 kilometers from Haflong, the district headquarters of Dima Hasao. The nearest railway station is at Lumding, while the closest airport is in Guwahati, about 250 kilometers away. The last stretch of road as you approach Umrangso from Guwahati has lots of speed-breakers placed hazardously without proper planning or markers so drive slow and carefully.
