Hey Justin, thanks for again a really entertaining tier list video. I really don't agree with you all the time, but in my opinion this is part of the fun. I wish you, your family, Russell, Travis and Bryn a good and healthy 2025. Thanks for all the Arkham thoughts posted and to be posted in the future. Greetings from the Netherlands, Pieter
Merry Christmas Justin, thanks for all the content in 2024. The crossover videos with Quick Learner are my favourite addition to the channel this year.
Fell in love with Lola when I played her with Boxing Gloves, all the synergy cards, and looping Brute Force with True Survivor. The wheels threatened to come off at every turn but it was a good time.
As usual, I agree with the majority of Justin's views, lol. BUT, Stella Clark at B tier is wild imo. I played Stella (recently for the first time) with Nathaniel Cho with a limited collection in Carcosa and she was incredible. I think Stella is an investigator who is greater than the sum of their parts. The three copies of the signature card is awesome. Solid A for me. And yes, BRING BACK A+ and B+ next year. Screw the haters--it's your tier list, Justin!!!! Love ya, brother!
Stella is a busted S-tier investigator... once you sink 20ish XP into Quick Learner, Drawing Thin, and Old Key Ring (3). Until then she's resilient but doesn't have the ability to push the game forwards like high-tier cluevers or crush 3 players worth of enemies like high-tier fighters.
Got some friends wanting to play Arkham Horror next year, and found your video really engaging + explained well to someone that has played a few games only. Thanks!
I love your tierlists. So many thanks for doing it again. If there is a clue on your location: be Rex Murphy or Daisy with Gim Memoir. Is there no clue: be Daisy with Esoteric Atlas (or any other helpful book). This (for me) is the difference between those two: Daisy can every time take usage out of her ability, Rex can do it only, if there is a clue. Of corse, to be Rex she need to draw the gimthing first :-)
Loved the video. A yearly highlight as always. Enjoyed the condensed tiers. In my perfect world id have loved to see the definitions below the letter. A, B or C don't mean much to me 2 hours into rhe video. But a small "almost guaranteed to win" under S lets me know ehat that tier represents to you. Also seems like the bottom two tiers could be merged meaning a smaller screen to more easily show it on the screen all at once. Gret video. Happy holidays.
I just realized, Ursula ability is not rex ability, it is actually you get a free action every turn that you can only use for moving, (with the niche but not non existent limitation that you need to investigate that turn as well). Rex is you get a testless clue if you over succeed, so you get something better than an extra action (because testless) if you are willing to investigate once, and also oversucceed Cool way to think about it thanks
Idea for a list videos: top criterias people use for making tier lists By now i saw at least 10 ways to describe strongest investigators. Strongest at their optmized state, strongest with minimal setup, highest floor, highest ceiling, better at doing everything, better at his job, strongest whether the team, strongest with specific teamcomp in mind (...) Haha
@@DrDifra It's why people who take other people's tier lists so seriously need to go outside now and then. They're all insanely subjective and should be seen for the fun that they are.

You can't make me believe that Rex isn't the perfect example of S tier. No set up, just deduction every turn. Untabooed Rex is wild. I solo clued with no assets through 4 locations in Horror in High Gear for 4 players. Higher Ed milked me dry but that was a ride. Note: We play untabooed, still working on our blind playthroughs. 1 thing I'd love to see from future expansions: 1 card that cares about skulls for Jim and 1 card that cares about doom for Marie/Amina every investigator expansion (at least). It would be fun to see continued support for archetypes besides big brain in mystics. I think the Darrell S-tier sentiment comes from him being the best test at 0 cluever, in the best 2 clueving colours, with a relevant ability. However, his ability is way stronger against the mythos deck when your guardian draws grasping hands or your rogue draws crypt chill/rotting remains.
The statement at 1:29:25 i actually do take umbrage with. The largest problem i have with older campaign design is agenda advance + reshuffle with ancient evils in the deck. I cannot tell you the number of times in a 3-4 play campaign where we have draw ancient evils in one round, advanced, drawn the suite again on the next mythos phase. Was my play bad? Clearly because didnt play 4 mystics with ward to compensate; or because we didnt play the game like we have 3 less turns on a 4 turn agenda. And this is not a rare occurance for my group, we routinely get AE clumping whenever it shows up, rarely in good situations for us. Anecdotal i understand, but this one statement just irked me; playing efficiently and correctly doesnt mean you always succeed. Great list video though regardless, thanks for another year of great content!
You must understand that if that happens in 1/10 games, that's variance, if it's happening 5/10 games, that's on you. That's the difference in what you are talking about vs consistent loss to doom. If it happens rarely due to variance, that's the nature of card games, but if you are always dooming out then that is something the players need to ask why.
@PlayingBoardGames Genuinely, my group only ever gets a doom out in the situation I highlighted above. However, we do get clumping on our AE's very consistently across all our campaigns, anecdotal I understand, but it's the way the cards have played out over the past few years. I just simply dislike playing Mystics and playing exclusively to compensate for these situations; and if that is my fault as a player so be it, but the general mystic loop is not how I enjoy playing the game.
@bardofsnow Yup and the doom out from constant Ancient Evils reshuffles is definitely a fault of the scenario design. They've gotten a lot better at managing that.
I think that Roland did well out of hemlock Vale, I with cleaning kit, upgraded emergency cache and some search tech I was able to get through the whole campaign with just Roland's signature weapon. I want to try something similar with Jenny dragon shotgun deck.
Idea for a challenge run Level zero deck ftw win a campaign with no experience. Theory crafting it would be fun as well. In three players I would probably go for Rex Daniella and Dragon pole flex Akachi!
I think 3* neither rain nor snow is still insane, not because mythos is scary, but because promise of power is insane. And thats re-usabale and has upsides. Also mythos is not really scary anymore because we win faster but also because theres plenty of good efficient protection or soak. But if we dont run any of those, we all a bunch of Joe Diamonds (who is my favorite anyway so hurray).
To me, Will Yorick is S tier because he received Cleaning Kit, not Hunting Jacket. I mean, hunting jacket is cool and really good, but Chainsaw Yorick is just so consistant, has access to extra damage tools like Vicious Blow, Long Shot, Strong Armed, and combining that with having billion soak, I just think he is the strongest goon in the game and that deserves an S
The fact that you don't think that Sefina has grown with the card pool is just nuts to me, she is probably the investigator that gained the second most from the Parley suite in hemlock Vale. If you want consistency then you want suggestion(1) and lucky cigarette case (4).
@PlayingBoardGames I've played it once with Sefina through the forgotten age and that playthrough went well, better than it looks on paper. The parley stuff works well with both evade tech and trick tech and there are a couple of cards, for example drain essence, that I think now will be difficult not to put in my future sefina decks. I get why you don't rate Sefina, she is an anti spike design where it is impossible to mitigate every risk. Its a design where you have to adapt. You get the fun of being able to get away with some absolutely broken bs but not so frequently that it stops being fun.
Lili feels so much stronger than anyone else you have in B tier, except maybe Minh. She's a 5 punch guardian with good mythos stats and self healing with full access to the best weapons the others get (unlike Daniella)
Ancient covenant is the most problematic card in the game. Pribably should be forbidden. To stay in the game it probably needs complete redesign. Something bless related. So maybe after a bless is revealed exhaust and add 2 bless to the bag. It means finding bless makes it more likely to find more bless but doesn't break the whole skill test part of the game.
There's a lot of inertia behind the assumption that mystics use Will for everything, 5 will mystics are good, 4 will mystics are bad, your book stat doesn't matter. But that's just not true for me anymore - we're a long way past every mystic deck running 4x Shriveling 4x Rite of Seeking.
3:21:18 "The Guitar is the strongest card in the game." I'll go one step further. I think the card is a mistake, and there is a real danager of two things: 1) it will be a benchmark against which everything an encounter deck does to to us will be balanced against "this has to beat Guitar". 2) It will be a benchmark against which every investigator signature will be measured "well it's no Pete's Guitar" Honestly, I want the card to be Tabood.
No One is balancing nothing around parallel investigators. Father Mateo completely destroys the game from scenario one. And no one cares. They are just fun little experimental designs and they should be viewed as such. Make them miserable make them completely broken, no one cares You have to print them yourself for fs they are just glorified custom cards for you to have fun with once in a while The day they taboo parallel content is far, hopefully non existent
While I do agree inefficiency with your turns is the number 1 cause of scenario losses, damage and horror is a close second, you make it sound like people should not run soaks. Saying Hunter Armor isn't a good card cause it doesn't win you the game does not make sense to me. And that card is pushed to the moon, it nets you 4 resources and soaks for 2/2 for only 2 XP, it’s by far the most cost-efficient soak in the game cause it’s a resource generator that also soaks incredibly well. And about what it does for Tommy it nets him 8 resources, you can swap both the leather coat and the cherished keepsake for two of these and use the extra two slots for something else.
There is a bit of a misunderstanding here. Hunter's Armor is the customizable guardian armor. You are describing Hunting Jacket, which Justin says is a good card, but not game altering, when discussing Will Yorick. I happen to like Hunter's Armor for some campaigns, but I do think Hunting Jacket is the better card for the reasons you describe.
I think you are missing Justin's point. It isn't that soak doesn't have a place, but that playing soak that's primary purpose is keeping you alive doesn't win you the game. So, an investigator that sort of inherently requires multiple play actions for soak throughout a scenario is gonna be weaker in terms of power level than an investigator who just wins.
For me, Sefina is what Jim is for Justin; I love her, I think she is bad, and every time I find an excuse to go back to her, only to be let down, again and again.
Wendy Adams is borderline a Design Failure (F Tier) due to the Sig Weakness. Some investigators have a SW that push against their design or force you to not-be-me for a turn or two. Wendy's SW not only actively discourages doing what her Sig wants from her - it has an icing on the top of a virtually unstoppable 2 Horror on your character, which, by thinning your deck drastically if you try to do Wendy things, is likely to resolve multiple times! Its disgusting! Almost without exception (Calvin?), no other investigator places directly on the investigator, or gives you outs to avoid it.
If you wanna go all out on Wendy's sig there plenty of ways to avoid the weakness, not a coincidence that Wendy is the easiest investigator to go infinite with. On the other hand if you just play her for some value the weakness won't hurt that hard
I would swap Zoe & Mark; I really don't understand the Mark hype; we've tried him in every possible combo and we're barely winning... He needs a healing machine to keep him efficient! I only saw him efficient when he was paired with Vincent Lee. Zoe with down the rabbit hole, Runic Axe & physical training is a boss!
You’re probably using Sophie too much. She’s not there to just use all the time, she’s there to use when you really need her, and you shouldn’t need her often to do his main task of fighting because he already has a 5. I’m playing Mark right now and have 2x Second Wind, 1 Medical Student, and a Hallowed Mirror. Haven’t come really close to even being stuck with Sophie flipped. He’s incredibly strong, and I think he’s closer to being S tier than he is to being below Zoey (and I like Zoey quite a bit, she’s great). If there’s one fighter I’d take blind into a campaign it would be Mark, because he’s so consistent.
I played with a Stella Clark who literally drew threw her deck every other turn and won the game with 3 players nearly by herself she was so incredibly strong with Quick Learner
Something i never bought, is father mateo getting better with the token fishing getting better . I mean sure, a little, but his elder sign while being one of the best in the game, won't make you win the game. An extra action + card given at unreliable times in a character with bad stats and an horrible pool for his stats i dont think could ever turn good. Unless you are getting an elder sign every turn, and you are not. Because if we ever readh thst critical mass of token fishing blessed cursed or paradoxical will always be more consistent than him anyway (and the game would be terrible anyway ) Plus how is he better than Jacqueline at token fishing?
He has a higher payoff. I don't think it's easier to fish for tokens with him than Jaqueline, but I think he's better at it when you put all the pieces together.
@DrDifra in theory, the concept of token fishing is drawing the tokens you need when you want them. So, no, I don't think it's just for elder sign fishing. Edit to add: If both Jacqueline and Father Mateo are using a Sixth Sense, there is one point difference between the value of each of them using it. That's not a huge swing of a higher chance to Jaqueline when the goal is to investigate on the lowest shroud location with it.
@@PlayingBoardGames yeah but my point is that Mateo gets a better payoff only if he draws the elder sign. While the usual payoff for doing the fishing, which is either pass the test or get the right symbol for sinergy pieces like curse or sixth sense , stays the same for jaq or Mateo or any other character. But jaq can fish better thanks to her ability + her insane signature . (And she does get that +1 skill boost which might not be super important as you already stated )
@DrDifra Payoffs are one of the ways that we can feasibly define power level within archetypes. You brushing it off doesn't make any sense to me. Jacqueline has consistency for how much she can fish for tokens. This gives her a good flat level of power within the archetype. However, Father Mateo has a higher ceiling, which gives him more room to scale that Jacqueline doesn't provide. Comparing the two, Jacqueline gets more fishing, but Mateo gets more power. How much those factor into it depends on one's personal metric of power, but handwaving the elder sign is not seeing the power (or consistency of it). An example I did in a recent video was Mateo having a 25% chance of drawing and resolving his elder sign with Olive McBride. That's not as uncommon as you are painting it to be.
Justin, "Suzy is a joke investigator" is an erroneous statement... Blob Smith (just a normal human, really) is an actual joke investigator from that pack =)))
Theres just no way jenny is f tier lol, you hate her *so* much and all she needs to do to win scenarios is loop dynamite blast and focus everything else on getting clues. Spamming dynamite blast is busted even on the hardest scenarios on the highest difficult and its so easy for it to do 9-12 damage in a round if you are planning for it and then double doubling it and doing so many things. There is NO WAY with the rogue card pool and her crazy deckbuilding shes on the same level as jim or lola or any of the truly bad investigators
@@NapoleonSoares Merry Christmas to you as well! Always happy to read comments from people who find more success in Jenny than I have. It's why I say at the beginning that these are just my opinions and I'm just an idiot on the internet.

Amina not in F pog
yo also Gloria and Alyssa Graham with Sin-Eater. Trust.
Go outside.
@@PlayingBoardGames Lmao somehow I knew this would be the response, appreciate all you do for the community either way, merry Christmas :)
@@PlayingBoardGames This was definitely an unnecessarily rude response.
@@NapoleonSoares Merry Christmas to you as well! Always happy to read comments from people who find more success in Jenny than I have. It's why I say at the beginning that these are just my opinions and I'm just an idiot on the internet.
@@SeymourHeartane This exchange is much less serious than you think it is. I hope you're having a happy holidays. :)
Do you have this on a paper document? Want to try and look at these in order.
