CES 2023 - New ATSC 3.0 and Antenna Tech + 4K HDR Broadcasts
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 8 янв 2023
- This video is about my trip to CES 2023 where I showcase new ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV and TV antenna technology along with information about HDR over the air. I was able to ask some viewer questions about NextGen TV to ATSC President Madeleine Noland. Some of these questions include how much reception is improved with ATSC 3.0, when it will launch in larger markets like NYC and Philadelphia, if it will ever launch in Canada, and when 4K broadcasts will happen.

I'll play devils advocate and say that while SHE said ATSC3.0 "[is] a massive improvement..." yet she only actually said 30% bandwidth improvement and that the cut over from HD to 4K is coming. I get 4K from streaming already... Not convinced (yet).
Thank you very much appreciate everything you do for us Cord Cutters!! 🙏😀
I enjoyed the interview. It was very informative and she seems to be very knowledgeable. She was also giving recognition to us OTA TV Nerds, lol. And I can appreciate that.
13:48 send me those space antennas i will smash them on my channel
@@brianjrichman Not disagreeing, but ATSC 3.0 RF modulation is also more robust, and she did mention the more efficient compression. But bottom line there are just so many bits you can stuff in a 6MHz TV channel.
Thank for keeping us up to date on 3.0. It really helps us to get ready for the change.
I’m glad you were able to go and make this video! Keep up the great work Tyler!
This is the kind of content that I like. Interviews with industry leaders and these types of shows that covers tech to cut the cord. "Thank you, Antenna Man." as the ATSC President said.
Awesome Tyler ! Thanks for making the trip and reporting back on CES . . . really enjoy the content !
That was hilarious wanting to smash the junk antenna !!!!!
I was very interested in the future of ATSC 3.0 in car radios and phones so that was cool to see along with other set top boxes!
I don't get why one would want to. We don't buy big-screen TVs to watch TV on small screens.
You have a big screen tv in your car or on the go?
3:25 interview with president Madeline Nolan. - She’s very knowledgeable!!! Great interview!!
Yes, she was great! I even learned a few things!
Outstanding video of an interview providing invaluable ATSC 3.0 news info and revelations of new advanced products.
They are still working on getting out 1080p UHD is still years away for most viewers. I can remember it took a long time to get stereo sound to most areas.
How she says "1 dot oh" instead of "1 point 0" is very distracting.
@@1stprinceoflite I have VHS tapes on which the recorded program says "stereo where available", but according to my TV's info strip are Mono. Eh, maybe VHS VCRs weren't capable of recording in anything but mono.
@@ghenulo We still enjoyed our MTV back then until the equipment came along that allowed the stereo signal to pass through.
Great interview! And it was awesome getting to meet you in human form :D Hope you get to attend CES next year as well!
So far this video looks like it's performing well in the preview. Obviously the trip to Vegas for CES was a big hassle and expense. It's worth it for my RUclips channel if my viewers want this kind of content which looks to be the case.
Tyler, this was exactly what I was looking for from all the tech at CES. Thank you for taking the time to concentrate on the ATSC 3.0 transition, as updated information has been hard to find. Hopefully some of the new set top boxes are cheaper than the current models and work well with older TVs and/or streaming devices.
Tyler - you are killing it, homie!! I was watching your channel back when you first started out with the bad lighting, no intro, just good information. Now Televes is sending you out to CES. You're living the dream! Keep it up.
This is by far one of your best videos to date!
I'm happy that Televes is working with you. I find that their equipment to be top notch.
I have the Avant X which was a must have here since I have several antennas pointing in different directions.
This was necessary due to major multi-path interference, literally knocking off several channels.
With this device, now every channel is solid with zero problems.
I know that the Avant X is considered a commercial solution, but at its price point, it was worth it for residential use.
But now, seeing this video, I wonder if the SmartKom is a "stripped down" version that is also programmable.
I seem not to have as big of trouble with ATSC 1.0 interference as most people. Cars driving by don't really affect my reception, nor does the nearby airport, but running not limited to a hairdryer, dishwasher, or paper shredder do.
@@ghenulo No, those things didn't affect our system that I built. There used to be a taxi stand and their radios used to interfere a bit until I built a filter for that. Happily, they are gone now.
The big problem was, that with the 4 antennas I set up, each pointing in 3 different directions, signals beat against each other. Three are Antennas Direct 91XG, high gain, long range, uni-directional. One is a VHF.
Long story short, the signals from the main city are very strong , 85% to 100% and the other antennas also pick up some signal, thereby beating down the main antennas signal strength.
The Avant X solved this problem by allowing me to program which frequencies each antenna would allow, thereby blocking all others.
Now, all channels are strong and solid.
Best purchase yet.
Your channel is truly second-to-none in this space. Thank you for your work!
Thanks for the kind words!
Great update from the CES show. Thank you sir!!👍😎
Great content. It is always good to get your read on the new products and directions that are on the horizon. Good Work as always.
Awesome content Tayler on the updates and what's coming... Yes 2024 I see you being there...! To bring us (your viewers) what's the latest and greatest....!!! Thanks!!!
Great video Tyler, it was good to hear what is happening with ATSC 3.0. You asked some excellent questions & the answers were informative.
Tyler this presentation and interview was done very professionally and is greatly appreciated. You should be proud of your work and the effort put forth. Great delivery and btw I enjoyed the recent live stream on your RUclips channel. Keep up the good work! All the best from NYC!
Your content here is FABULOUS! So important to see what is out there, what is happening in the field, and you bring it right home to us here who watch you and rely on you for solid, professional advice as to what is quality, and what is junk. Keep up the great work! Thank you!
Thanks for the information and updates. It must have been cool seeing all the new technologies.
Great video overall! Thanks for keeping OTA alive and in the public.
Truly great content! Thank you for all your hard work putting this together for us.
Great info,Tyler. The good news I saw was that for the here and now,ATSC 1.0 broadcasters are working on improving their signals which is good mews for us that are in slow adopting 3.0 areas(Chicago). The 30 percent factor that ATSC 3.0 will offer is also great.
That is good news but keep in mind they cannot make any change that is incompatible with the installed base of zillions of TVs.
@@tomschmidt381 agreed
@@tomschmidt381 So it will be backwards compatible?
At least Chicago is under "Coming Soon" on the website. The market I'm in isn't even in the list.
@@tomschmidt381 Um, ATSC 3.0 isn't backwards-compatible. You're going to have to get a new TV or a converter box when ATSC 1.0 signals are shut off.
Thanks for the video, Tyler amazing information as always! I am so pumped up about ATSC 3.0 I really hope it takes off!
Nice job on the interview and the review. Can’t wait till 3.0 is out. When I last checked Cleveland has it on one station loi . Really nice job Tyler I’d like to see more of these
So putting 1, 2, and 3 together: Let's say NBC wants to make the Superbowl a premier event at 4K, so they reduce the range of the signal to increase the quality of the signal. They do this only for the Super Bowl, so no one can prepare for it. When everyone complains, they will say, "You should have signed up for Comcast."
A flexable standard is good for the corporations, not for the consumer. The best ever standard, from a consumer perspective, was the CD audio, because it had no flexibility.
First time hearing about next GEN TV. thank you
Tyler, I cannot express my gratitude enough for going to CES 2023 and having our questions answered.
I’m glad there’s a glimmer of hope for ATSC 3.0 in Canada. To think my college is doing something. Thanks Humber!
Also, just to poll for your final comment in your video, yes, I would want to see you at CES 2024. This is the kind of content that should be shared on your channel.
Finally, I wish you could’ve smashed those junk antennas. Can’t believe the were present at such a large event.
Hammer on Treadeau for allowing ctv, bell and cbc ro kill off broadcast towers.
Make astc 3.0 law in Canada.
@@lakorai2 CBC is the only OTA channel in Canada that actually cares about their OTA viewers AND they’re the only channel not owned by Bell, Shaw or Rogers.
Guess us Canada will have to wait and see on ATSC 3.0 for sometime.
@@ClassicGuy57 TRUMP 2024😎💯
@@ClassicGuy57 Tele-Quebec had also an interest in this technology and they are willing to convert their 17 transmitters because for them, more cord cutter means an higher market share, and they are not owned by big telcos (robellustron). They send their signal to the local station by fiber and not satellite if I am not wrong. But of course they broadcast in french so it's not for everyone (but I like their tv programming during the weekend, they pass some good movies without too much ads). I don't know if public broadcasters outside Quebec are interested too (tvo in Ontario for example).
CBC/Radio-Canada has new modernized studios able to produce content in 4k / hdr in Montreal and I think they plan to modernize their studios in Toronto also in the next years. The issue with CBC is their coverage, they produce their content mostly in Toronto and Montreal and must broadcast by satellite then in ATSC from their local ota station. The bottleneck is there I think for them. Broadcasting by satellite in 2160p/hdr/120hz twice for CBC and Radio-Canada is costy and they probably needs to launch a new gen satellite. Also, every election the CPC want to shut down this crown corporation. It doesn't help.
It appears the discussion of Canada and Humber College has vanished from the video. Can you find that section?
I don't comment much on your videos, but when I do, it's when you report from CES. Great update!
Great interview with Madeleine Noland. Thanks Tyler for the updates
I really enjoyed this! I am glad RUclips recommended it.
Great video. Can't wait for your review on the Televes 3 antenna combiner!
Another great video! Thanks as always…good info.
Excellent interview- she had knowledgeable answers and clearly enjoyed your questions. Great job, Tyler!
Great video Tyler…looking forward to more great reviews this year
Glad to see you with your special niche of technology that few have 💫👍👍👍💫
Glad to see you doing a video on the CES. I like learning about the latest technology. It's interesting to see how ATSC 3.0 is developing.
Excellent video. Televes seems to make some really good equipment and since first seeing them on your channel, they are definitely one of the brands that I would always consider.
Great interview. Thanks for making the trip to the trade show.
Definitely appreciate & value the video Tyler! Hoping it remains doable/profitable for you to continue! ALWAYS looking to stay current with myself & group of cord cutting friends & family…. Thank You!
Thanks for watching it!
Another outstanding video. Thanks very much. You are the best Tyler.
Oh yes sir, putting this kind of content on your channel is awesome and very much needed. Maybe in another one of your videos you can go over the 3.0 devices and how everything works. I myself don't understand how or what that equipment is and your very good at explaining in simpler terms for the masses that are not as advanced as yourself but understand how to put in terms we can understand. Anyway I'm really glad you put this on your channel today.
What's to understand? You screw a coax cable from your antenna to your TV. If you want to use ATSC 3.0's Internet functionality, you're going to have to connect it to your router (I assume it works like a wireless printer instead of having to physically connect like an Ethernet cable), but that's optional (and indeed a security concern).
Great video thanks for the work to bring us along.
Loved it! Yes, please return to CES next year
Excellent coverage at CES of relevant OTA TV subject. More like this gets my vote. Thanks!
Great interview Tyler. Thank you.
Well done young man! You are a true pro at what you do!👍
Excellent questions and pretty good answers from Madeleine Noland. Thanks for covering this. I would like to see a portable ATSC 3.0/ATSC 1.0 TV. But I guess that's still off in the future. Thanks again
I was really impressed by her answers and Tyler’s questions, too. I haven’t seen an executive that straightforward and transparent in an interview for a while.
Thank you Tyler, excellent presentation
Thanks for sharing this video, great information. Nice to hear that ATSC 3.0 is not a complete impossibility in Canada!📡🇨🇦
Great job on the interview, we always enjoy your informative videos. Keep up the good work
This has to be exciting for you Tyler! Great work!
Thanks. This is awesome!
Good review, Thank you.
Great stuff, thanks! 🙂👍
Great interview.
I thought it was great too. Hopefully it isn't too long to the point it causes some viewers to tune out. I'll be keeping an eye on analytics and may cut down the length if some think it's too long.
Thanks for mentioning the SmartKom. I bought one and it arrived very quickly.
A note for any purchasers: When mine arrived the power supply label showing To TV and To Mast was reversed. The diagrams in the very minimalist manual are correct if you look closely enough.
Once the correct connections are made it seems to work as described.
The interview was excellent.
Great video, and a big thank you for recommending someone in my area that can trouble shoot and get my antenna working again. Should be here on friday.
Antenna Man your the best, glad you made this.
Great interview - good questions and she gave detailed answers
Fantastic job, nice and in depth, really cannot wait for when we see atsc 3.0 finally rolled out for us major markets
Thanks for the video.
1st class interview Tyler. Thanks
Well done Tyler. I hope you do CES again next year. Always wanted to go. Someday... Keep up the great work!
This was great Tyler! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the update. Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
Keep doing your thing! You're blowing up. I bought the dat boss 😎
because of you. Thanks 😊
Great report, yes do more.
Great job Tyler. Excellent info!
Loved the video! The antenna combiner is going to be a game-changer for me. Put three high-gain antennas on a mast for each of the metro areas near me.
Antenna Man. Great informative interview. You are the man!
Yes please- great interview!
Great information. Hope you enjoyed your trip to CES.
Good job Tyler!
I have been telling all my friends to by ATSC 3.0 sets when swapping or new TV .
Great coverage and interview. I'll be looking for the new generation TV when it hits here. That Televis antenna combiner box intrigues me. Take care and am always looking for your videos.
Thank you so much Tyler I am from Canada. This video is very interresting.
This is really cool Tyler. Keep up the great work!
Really interesting video Tyler. It's cool to see all the new products
Great report and educational
Great video Tyler! Please go again next year too!
Please bring on the Zapperbox Review. Would love to hear your take on this particular tuner. Thanks for the update on CES for those of us that couldn't be there.
Great video and awesome information about nextgen TV.
Tyler, great job! Lots of good info!
Excellent! Thanks for doing the legwork on this one, Tyler. My Smartkom came today. I'm excited to try it out. My chimney has long been a pain in my backside for blocking the signal of one station or the other, depending on antenna placement. Smartkom is exactly the solution I've needed.
There definitely was some legwork involved with this video!
Can't wait to hear how the Smartkom works.
@@garyabc I can tell you I am extremely happy with mine. I have three antennas in my attic. Before I had two. I added a third one on the other side of my chimney. The Smartkom picked up ABC off the little ANT705E, which I knew it would. It gets the strongest signal for that band. It picked up all the other UHF stations off the new antenna. The three VHF stations were picked up by the third antenna (it has VHF elements). I am able to split the signal 3 ways and get a decent signal for my Samsung TV, Air TV, and HDHomerun Flex 4K. Originally, I had the HDHomerun upstairs connected to a wifi mesh extender. Come to find out that wasn't working out optimally. Now, I have it down in the den where I can connect it to the network directly over ethernet. Now just to wait til the leaves come back and see which antennas are picking up the best signal!
Wes McKean, Thanks for your comment. Good information. Here in Connecticut our NextGen/ATSC3.0 transmitters are in a different direction from other UHF stations and VHF station is in a 3rd direction. I also have interference from a cell tower 300 feet away. Trying to optimize reception for Sling/AirTV but need Silicon Dust for bad weather. Need to combine 3 directional antennas to do this effectively. Trying to keep the antennas in the attic. Thanks for your help.
Great information thank you. NYC here
Great content thanks you 😊
Well Done. Thank You
Superb Tyler.
Interesting stuff. Thanks Tyler.
Great video. Very interesting interview. Looking forward to your review on the SmartKom antenna combiner.
That Televes SmartKom looks badass. Totally helpful for specific situations like between markets ao you can use multiple directional antennas.
Please return next year, I love this kind of content!
Excellent job on this video!
Thanks for the CES 2023 video. I can't wait for ATSC 3.0 to become available.
Nicely done, thanks.
❤your videos from Melbourne Victoria Australia 🇦🇺 great job mate 👏👏👏🏁
Great job, Tyler. It's interesting to find out that ATSC 3.0 will not just be for TV broadcast.
Good Video Thanks!
Excellent report. Keep it up.
