I just got A in beginner, so this seems nuts.
It's all about knowing when to do the effect switch! Don't save up for a full meter every time it's too hard to reliably get more than 3-4 tetrises each time to take full score advantage.
You just gotta take advantage of the zone, cram as many lines as you can into it
I only get B on Expert at this level. My highest score so far is 27k.
