My favorite part of our trip was seeing the farmers bring the sheep out of the mountains before winter began and seeing this adorable cottage out at the end of a …I guess it was a lava field that went off into the ocean…I don’t really know what to call it but it was covered in moss and there was a cottage on it and I always dream of what it must be like to live in that adorable little cottage. I’ll never forget it. I love Iceland.
I want to give a big thank you to Jeannie for all of her videos, the advice is spot on. We just returned from Iceland and had a wonderful trip. Such a lovely country and friendly people. Hope to visit again.
People who plan to go to Iceland during winter must absolutely be advised that the weather can dramatically change their plans. On our case, we were supposed to go to Höfn but got stuck in Hella because of a storm that lasted an entire day. On a positive note, we ended up booking a room at Loa's Nest and it was just perfect, very caring and lovely owner and great place!
I very much agree! Always have a Plan B if you're traveling anytime between November and April but really, roads can close because of wind and rain which can happen anytime of the year. So happy hear that you still had a wonderful time despite the interruption to your plans!
Love your videos and totally agree on the last point. My favorite moment in Iceland was when I was basically lost on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula trying to find the Hakarl place, stopped the car to check my map and then turned around to see a view that literally took my breath away.
Jeannie's advice is absolutely accurate! We just returned from an amazing week. Definitely plan a longer trip north and/or south if you have time, but the popular sights along Golden Circle are amazing and very convenient to Reyjkavik. 24 hours of daylight in July ! Iceland is so beautiful and unique. Have fun!
As a former resident of Italy for a number of years, you have to talk to locals and then find the real gems. For me, it's the people and getting invited to their homes.
Visited Iceland two weeks ago. Found the country much less expensive compared to earlier visits. The cost of food and fuel was actually lower than at home in the Netherlands.
We get pretty bad wind storms in the spring where I live. Uprooted trees, power outages, big trucks getting blown off the highway...when weather gets like that, you just have to hunker down! I'll do my best to remember that when I'm in Iceland and not get us stuck out on a dangerously windy day!
Good points. My wife and I just got back from our 2nd visit to Iceland (last July and this July). Driving to the Westfjords, you can drive for a long time before seeing another vehicle. Or gas station. Or store. We stopped in Patreksfjörður to fuel up and get coffee (coffee, often!) and to get food for the night. The grocery store employees said if we waited a while, they would have more supplies. The plane was landing soon. The Westfjords are beautiful, but very, very isolated.
Thank you for all the great videos Jeannie. Our son is getting married on December 28th and they have decided they want to tie the knot in Iceland! I discovered your channel and have told everyone they need to be watching your videos in preparation for the trip.
When I went to Iceland last year I stayed in the south coast and the golden circle. I was only there for a week though so that worked out. I want to go back and explore other areas.
I have been 4 times in Iceland in winter, and I was surprised how sunny it was. The weather forecast predicted nothing else than clouds and rain or snow, but once there, there was a lot of sun (and of course also a few snow storms).
Now, you are a cool Icelander! This was helpful. Going in August. Sorted a rental car, VW Golf, a small car but not too small. I won't be off-road or on any roads that are nuts.
I see a lot of videos about those one-lane bridges. How do you prepare for those? Do you wait at one end to let the car pass from the opposite direction? What if you can’t see them and it’s a long bridge, then what? Back up?
My mistake was booking the flight and car at the same time. The international airport is a 30 minute drive from Reykjavík, plus you'd need to find parking, etc before checking into your hotel. I took a cab to Reykjavík then the next day hired a car from the smaller airport near Reykjavík. The 30-minute cab ride to/from the airport was $150 USD, though.
Hi Jeannie, With WOW Air besides the 1 L re-fill water than you can bring in hand , bring things in the pockets and where the heaviest clothes there is some more tricks that you can do in order to bring more things only using your Free Personal Item without paying lugagge fees
spot on on most things. Expect any weather you can have, even in one day... Like we say here "if you don´t like the weather, just wait 20 minutes and you have something different" :D
248,60 ISK for gas was considered "very expensive" 4 years ago. I visited Iceland on July 2022 where gas prices were 348 ISK. Most expensive gas prices I've ever seen. Beautiful country however 😅
would you recommend going to the east fjords or the north west? i’m staying 30 min north of reykjavik with a host family, and the north would be easier to get to, but the east (specifically seydisfjordur) looks gorgeous
Seydisfjordur is stunning and totally worth a visit! You can easily hop on a domestic flight from Reykjavik Airport (RKV) to Egilsstadir (EGS) and rent a car to explore the east!
I've already bought a February 2023 tickets and was planning to circle the Ring Road with my 3 other friends. We've been doing a lot of research and asking around and decided to cancelled the plan and just cover southern+ golden circle due to weather. So sad :(
Hey Jeannie, I'm looking for a good museum to go to that has old viking bones or stuff like that. kids ages 12, 13 and there is 4 of us. We are traveling 2022 feb 18-23
I have a credit card that is chipped, however, I cannot use a pin without having a cash transfer fee applied. Will my credit card be accepted without a pin, just a signature?
maria jeniffer lima january is alot better than febuary. Febuary is the time when leftover hurricanes (do not know how to write it) come and hit Iceland and it will be over in march if we are lucky
love your videos. I was looking whi/where I could visit and speak with the spiritual people who believe and communicate with the Elven folk. No idea who offers tours travel or information on the topic. thank you
Hi Ron! Thanks so much for watching and what a great question! I've just learned about the Elf School (theelfschool.com/) in Reykjavik and I'm sure they would be great to look into. Let me know what you find out or if you attend the "school" let me know what you think about it!
Im planing to go to iceland soon, only for one day (19 hours) you recommend to rent a car or is better and cheaper to go by bus to blue lagoon and park thingvellir?
Thank you for the video !! I’m planning to iceland in July or august - what I’m concerning is the petrol ⛽️- because I’m thinking renting an auto car 🚗 to drive around the island
I missed the webinar. 😩😩😩. Your videos are super helpful. I’ll be visiting in mid sept for 8 days. Decided not to do ring road bc of all the planning but getting serious fomo. Hoping I can at least do enough day trips that give us that experience but also having a home base gardabaer outside Reykjavík. I can change accommodations if I change my mind but only rented a basic vehicle bc 4ww too expensive. A ring road or not to ring road video would be interesting to me.
Hi, I’m actually from Iceland :D I personally don’t recommend the ring road, especially since you’re only there for eight days. There are so many attractions and nature wonders near Reykjavík. Hope this helped!
I’m traveling to Iceland in December for one week and I hope the weather permits. Should I book my tours from now? Blue lagoon, golden circle, volcano tube, northern lights? Etc. or should I wing it when I get there.
Neria well it all depends. Tours take up most of the day so hard to do two tours in one day. A car would allow you to travel out further into the country and see more. So if you have time get the car 👍🏽
I know off the subject but I know that you recommend a certain camper van company. What is it and how's the best way to contact them? We are coming in September 2024
We are going to Iceland Feb. 22 returning Mar. 7. We fly into Reykjavik, rent a car and drive to Akureyri where we will stay for a week. We have our accommodation booked there. WE are then driving around the east coast back to Reykjavik we we will stay the night of Mar. 6 - already booked. Should we book accommodation for each of the other nights on our journey back to Reykjavik or would it be best to not book in case of weather? If we book I was thinking of staying around Egilsstadir one night, Hofn one night, Vik one night and then Reykjavik. Is this doable? If the weather is good will that be too many stops? If it the weather is bad will this work? We hope to hit the Snaefellsjokull peninsula on a day trip from Reykjavik and one day going North to Gullfoss and area. Your help would be much appreciated!!
Karlee Mezquita i can answer your question. I am from Iceland. 1. The weather would problably be getting more sunny, less storms. 2. It’s 24 hours of brightness/daylight, never dark out.

Going alone for 3-4 days towards the end of September. I don't want to rent a car because I don't feel safe driving alone especially since I live in Texas where there is zero ice in the roads😝Are there tours I can take? and where is the best place to stay to see the Northern Lights?
Well good for you. But this IS a video for first time visitors. Her perspective is great for newbies! Icelanders don't think twice about these things since it's not new to them.
During the August and September months are there buses that go from Rekjavik to Northern Iceland at affordable rates? Please explain the bus situation and how to get around the island without renting a car.
Hi 🙋🏻♀️, Love your channel 💞..... Wanted to know if showers 🚿 are available for tourists that are camping during the month of October? It seems certain spots open or close depending on the time of the year you travel.
You can use the public swimmingpools for showering. Most of camping sites close down for winter because no one in their right mind will camp out in winter plus the camping fields will get damaged.
It was amazing, one of my best holidays. Though the weather was surprising sometimes but I was prepared. Advice for who's going there: take with you plenty underpants and a lot of warm clothes, especially if you plan to do a lot of tours us I did.
How was your trip to Iceland?I am looking forward to visit in two weeks flying from Dublin.Did you see the northern lights? How is the weather right now and daytime?
Hurricane? in Iceland? Never happens... yes we do get a windy weather BUT no we have never gotten a Hurricane? not that I know of - those 57 years I have lived here.
thanks babe are you from Iceland? I think I am going on this month at the end 23 oct. just for 2 days what do you think the weather will be at this time?
was just in Iceland, my 2nd time there, I just pack for rain and wind and go about my business. The whale watching was canceled...AGAIN...but I will just try next time. I hate driving and I always book tours to include a meal! and I stay at a guest house, not a hotel. Thorsmork is fabulous, but umm, I don't think you should encourage anyone to drive a rental car there. and just avoid Blue Lagoon, there are other better places

Haha that comment is so funny!! Any more mistaskes I should be aware of before i visit iceland?:)
I know I should not ask this but still asking what is the minimum monthly rent for 4 memeber family... If they plan to move Iceland permanently.
Same 😂

@@jenniferc6165 that’s not his advise. He suggested people to get a rental in town instead of the airport. But the cab cost him 150. Lol

Jeannie-just got back from South Iceland. Amaaaazing! Your videos helped a lot in preparing. Thanks!!!
Yes, I am so happy to hear that Dan! What was your favorite place in the South?
We live in North Iceland and first thing when we plan our new trip is checking weather forecast :D And road conditions of course :)

Definitely plenty of tour companies that could take you to some great places in Iceland and see the northern lights!
Do you recommend to rent a car online before arriving or is it possible to wait until I get there and see?
I highly recommending reserving everything as early as possible - definitely don't want to wait or you can end up spending more money!

You can use the public swimmingpools for showering. Most of camping sites close down for winter because no one in their right mind will camp out in winter plus the camping fields will get damaged.

They don't

How cold is it in Oktober?
Depends a lot, it could snow and it could be really nice weather but it's most likely raining and windy and around 5-8 degrees Celsius
It really just depends 2017 was snow and 3-(-10) celcius and 2016 there was no snow and only a littel rain and cloudy and 0-15 celcius
Are you in Iceland in October 2018 ?
I'm in Iceland October 2018
How was your trip to Iceland?I am looking forward to visit in two weeks flying from Dublin.Did you see the northern lights? How is the weather right now and daytime?
Hurricane? in Iceland? Never happens... yes we do get a windy weather BUT no we have never gotten a Hurricane? not that I know of - those 57 years I have lived here.
She is a liar .
Guðbjörg Gísladóttir no not a hurricane actually, she was just saying that because of how windy I’m sure you know it can get. 100+ miles per hr
thanks babe are you from Iceland? I think I am going on this month at the end 23 oct. just for 2 days what do you think the weather will be at this time?
Check out my posts about seasons and weather at www.livelifewithaview.com
was just in Iceland, my 2nd time there, I just pack for rain and wind and go about my business.
One mistake I made was opening my car door on a very windy day.
Your mistake was not to park it depending on the wind :D
Oh yeah - I've made that mistake before but you learn quickly!
How about now???? more than 4 years later!
